“I Have Reason To Be Attached To Amaechi” – Ndume …Says Tinubu Abandoned Fmr. Rivers Gov.

Senator Ali Ndume

By Adesina Soyooye

“If the ship I am inside is overloaded and is capsizing, I will jump ship”

Senator Ali Ndume, APC Borno South,  has revealed that contrary to the long held view that it was Rotimi Amaechi who gave President Bola Tinubu a big space, the opposite was the case.

Ndume, also  said he has a reason to be attached to Amaechi, and added that he believes Amaechi would make a good President. The Senator stopped short of saying that the Minister for Transportation under the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari would make a better President than the incumbent.

Ndume made these revelations Tuesday on Arise Television’s Prime  Time anchored by Charles Aniagolu. And he said more.

For instance, he revealed that while he was a PDP Senator under a PDP Federal Government, he played the role of an opposition to the PDP. It is the same role he is, indeed, playing in the APC now.

Rotimi Amaechi and Bola Tinubu2

He acknowledged that even as an APC Senator, he had attended, a number of times, meetings of the Coalition insistent on removing President Tinubu from office in 2027. The Senator also indicated he could dump the APC. “If I am in ship”, he said, “and it is overloaded and capsizing, I will look for a small boat and jump in.”

On Amaechi, Ndume disclosed how Tinubu abandoned the two-term Rivers State Governor after the 2023 presidential Primaries.

Amaechi contested in the Presidential Primary against  Tinubu, but came a distant second. Ndume was his Director-General of the presidential campaign.

The Senator explained to Aniagolu that after Amaechi’s defeat, Tinubu was willing to meet with him and make Amaechi part of his Administration after the election. But somewhere along the line, Tinubu abandoned that line of action.

Senator Ndume: “I’m 65. I have been in this business for 24 years. God has given everything to me. The only thing I have to do right now, and I am prepared to die doing it, is to speak the truth and do what is right.

“Yeah, we had 315 votes (at the Presidential Primaries). We gave them a good fight. And then after that, we thought things would go on fine, actually, because I remember vividly that Tinubu, the Governor of Lagos [Sanwo-Olu], the current Minister of Defence, who else came to call me to say he (Tinubu) wants to come and meet with myself, Amaechi.

“So we agreed. And at that time, I remember, I was to go for Hajj. We had to go for Hajj. And so the President said, ‘Look, we want you to come on board, and let’s work together’.

“And we agreed, and then we agreed that we’d meet after I come back, and that meeting did not hold. That was how they abandoned Amaechi.”

Since that abandonment, the two, Tinubu and Amaechi, who were political alies have parted ways. Amaechi has now become a strong critic of the President and the APC. And, even though he has not resigned from the Party, he is one of the arrowheads of the coalition of others bent on stopping President Tinubu’s second term ambition.

Tinubu made the remark in the congratulatory message he sent to the governor , on the commemoration of his 60th birthday.

The message is contained In a statement signed by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, in which Tinubu described Sanwo-Olu as a dedicated public servant who is passionate about the vision of transforming the state of Excellence, Lagos.

Governor Sanwoolu has received congratulatory messages from not a few Nigerians, from all spheres of life , including politicians and top business persons in the country.

The president stressed that the governor will make more impact by completing some key projects including the Fourth Mainland Bridge, the Blue and Red Rail lines and the “ongoing preparations for the Purple Line.”

According to the president, he’s proud of Governor Sanwoolu’s achievements so far, tracing his political career to when he was the governor of the state, when the incumbent served under him as an Adviser and later as commissioner.

Tinubu: “Your execution of this vision is exemplified by landmark achievements, including completing the Blue and Red Rail lines and the ongoing preparations for the Purple Line, which will serve the vital Lekki corridor.

“I urge you to sustain this trajectory by prioritising impactful projects for Lagosians, notably the long-awaited Fourth Mainland Bridge and the Freedom Way to Victoria Garden City (VGC) Road.”

The statement highlighted that Sanwo-Olu began his political career under Tinubu’s mentorship and noted that he served in various roles in Lagos State, including as Commissioner in multiple ministries and as Managing Director of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation.

Governor Sanwoolu had in January last year promised to commence the construction of the Bridge in April 2024, saying the project will alleviate the problems of the residents of the state. Over one years after, nothing has yet to be done by the state government on the project.

Lagos Demolishes Peter Obi’s Brother’s Property, LP Leader Laments Persecution

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has become a direct victim of the lawlessness that is engulfing the Nigerian state.

Obi has been at the forefront consistently decrying the recklessness and impunity that is apparent in the country in the last two years, but became a direct victim on Tuesday.

A property in Lagos belonging to his junior brother was demolished, acting on a court order addressed to a squatter in the property.

The demolition team could not say who sent them, nor did they have any authorising papers for their actions.

Reacting to the bizarre action after visiting the scene of the incident,  Obi wrote on his X handle,

“Any society where lawlessness overrides the rule of law is not destined to be a haven for investors. Recent reports showing that Nigeria’s human rights indicators have worsened merely highlight severe shortfalls in government protection for civil liberties, personal security, and basic living standards.

“I know what I have been going through as a person in abuse of my human rights just because I contested a Presidential election which I have legitimate rights to do. So I imagine what small business owners, regular citizens, and vulnerable communities face daily. If this level of lawlessness can happen to someone with a registered company and legitimate means, what hope does the ordinary Nigerian have?

“This morning, my youngest brother called me frantically, informing me that a group of people had invaded his company property in Ikeja, Lagos, and were demolishing the building.

“He had just come in from Port Harcourt and was denied entry to the property by security men who told him the building was being pulled down. They even informed him that this demolition had started over the weekend. “As a peace-loving Nigerian, he quickly started processing to go to court immediately, not knowing what must have resulted in this, as they moved fast to destroy his home without any restraint.

“I rushed to Lagos from Abuja after the call this morning and headed straight to the property. On arrival, I was met by security people who tried to bar me from entering the property. I humbly pleaded with them that the property belonged to my brother’s company, and from the records, the company had owned the property for over a decade. They told me they had a court judgment, and I immediately requested it. You would not believe that the court judgment they claim was issued against an unknown person, and squatters. I asked about a demolition order or permit, and there was none.

“How do you sue an unknown person? How does a court issue a judgment in such a farce of a case? No one was served. No name was written. Yet they showed up with excavators and began destroying a structure that had stood for over 15 years.

“I immediately asked the excavators for the person who had sent them, and they said they didn’t know anyone, but they were only informed to come and demolish the house. I immediately told them to tell whoever it is that I would like to speak with them, if they can call my number, which I shared with the excavators, so that I can speak with whomever gave them the order to demolish the property.

I stood there from 10am to 2pm, waiting to get a call at least, and nobody called or came. The contractor even said he didn’t know who sent him. Two men later came and said they would like us to go to a police station. I asked if they even had a demolition order but they had nothing. The whole situation screamed of coordinated lawlessness and impunity. Our country has become lawless.

“I just started reminiscing about how just over the weekend, I had a meeting when someone told me how he has investments in Ghana, Senegal, and the Benin Republic, but won’t touch Nigeria despite his market being here. I asked him why. His answer was piercing: “Nigeria is a lawless country. Until we have laws that protect people, nobody will invest in Nigeria.”

“I am just shocked. How did Nigeria get to this level of lawlessness?

What kind of country are we trying to build when the rights of citizens, their lives, their properties, and their voices are trampled upon daily?

“I remain committed to a better Nigeria where lawlessness will be a thing of the past, protection of life and property, respect for human rights, care for the less privileged, and basic education for all children.

A  new Nigeria is POssible.

“Write Condolences To  Victims Of Suicide  Bombs, Don’t Rewrite History And Smear The Dead” – Anenih’s Son To Bayo Onanuga

0
Ose Anenih and Bayo Onanuga

By Gideon Njoku

Ose Anenih, one of the sons of the late powerful Edo State-born politician, Chief Tony Anenih, has tackled main Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, over what he described as Onanuga’s use of uncouth language on his late father.

So, he has a message for Bayo:

“I wish you had used your pen today to issue condolences to the victims of the suicide bombings in Kano and Borno than rewriting history and smearing the dead.”

In a strongly-worded letter to Onanuga, he chided the Presidential Spokesperson for insulting the late senior Anenih and misrepresenting him in his narration of the role he played in the June 12 saga.

Trouble started when a former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, in a recent interview alleged that President Tinubu was not a strong advocate for the restoration of the June 12, 1993, Presidential election won by Chief MKO Abiola but canceled by the Military Regime of President Ibrahim Babangida.

According to Lamido, Tinubu exaggerates the role he played in the unsuccessful struggle to retrieve Abiola’s mandate.

Lamido’s statement attracted an immediate strong rebuke from Onanuga who, instead of descending on Lamido alone, added Chief Tony Anenih to the mix

He accused both men of sabotaging and abandoning the struggle for the restoration of June 12 especially, given their positions as the National Chairman (Anenih) and National Secretary (Lamido) of Abiola’s Party, the Social Democratic Party, SDP. And, he said much more.

Disappointed and hurt over Onanuga’s characterization of his late father, Ose penned an open letter to him, to,  according to Ose, set the records straight.

Following is the full text of his letter to Onanuga.

“Rebuttal In Defence Of History And My Father

“Dear Bayo, your account of my father’s involvement in June 12 is to put it politely, untrue.

“It is disappointing that you chose to use uncouth language to describe Chief Tony Anenih, and in an official communication from the Presidency no less. I will rise above the emotional baiting that this conversation has clearly sparked and will speak only in the truth.

“I will also assume that your mis-characterisation of historical events stem from ignorance, not malice. To the facts: Chief Abiola  initially fled the country after the annulment of the June 12 Presidential election by General Babangida.

“You mentioned that MKO eventually returned. When he did, one of his first visits was to my father, then National Chairman of the SDP in Benin City. True to form, my father confronted Abiola. He accused him, to his face, of abandoning the Party and its supporters in the immediate aftermath of the annulment while they risked their life and limb defending his mandate.

“Abiola’s public response? A bird does not tell his friends that the stone is coming. My father also told me of another conversation, one in which he warned Abiola that his increasingly close dealings with General Abacha would ultimately destroy his chances of reclaiming his mandate.

“At that time, both parties, (SDP and NRC) had negotiated for an Interim National Government with the understanding that it would eventually hand over power to Abiola. MKO walked in step-lock with this arrangement. In fact, strategically, ring fencing a few sensitive Ministerial portfolios for himself.

“But, Abiola, perhaps grew impatient of waiting and decided to pursue a different path. According to Anenih, when he warned Abiola of the folly in trusting the Military, Abiola told him: Whether you go by plane or  by car, what matters is that you get to Kano.

“The ING to Abiola was a road trip. Abacha’s Military coup which Abiola publicly encouraged, he regarded as a private jet. In fact, Abiola was one of the first to visit and congratulate Abacha after he overthrew the ING and seized power.

“Now, I’m not aware of any animosity that ever existed between my father and President Tinubu. In fact my father acknowledged that Tinubu had initially spoken out against the delay in announcing the results of the June 12 election.

“It was the only time he mentioned Tinubu in his 260-page book. I have no personal knowledge of what role your Principal played after that, though I find it curious that you consider the early visit to Abacha immediately after a coup to remove the ING he (MKO) he helped birth, a mark of honour.

“Like Lamido said, many of the players in that chapter of our history, like IBB, Abdulsalami, Oyegun, Ikimi, Mark, Ayu, Dele Momodu and others, including Kola, MKO’s son – are still alive. We are also fortunate thar my father wrote his own version of events before he passed.

“It is, however, unfortunate that I have had to defend my father’s name against a lie, and doubly unfortunate that that lie  was issued in the name of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I had hoped that this level of toxicity left with the former occupant of your office.

“I am happy to send you a copy of my father’s memoir, my life and Nigerian politics, to help you avoid this sort of historical misadventure in future. I’m just surprised and slightly disappointed that so much energy is going into the retelling of a tale that is more than 30 years old.

“Of what relevance to the average Nigerian is any of this today? I truly wish you had used your pen today to issue condolences to the victims of the suicide bombings in Kano and Borno than re-writing history and smearing the dead.”

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday June 23, 2025, gave its nod to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s request for a N100 billion loan facility.

The approval came less than 24 hours after yte Governor tendered the request.

The Governor had, on Monday, forwarded a formal letter addressed to the Speaker, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku, seeking the approval of the legislators to secure the loan .

In the letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government SSG ,Umar Ikhilor, Government noted that the facility which would be sourced from First Bank, will be dedicated to the financing of some infrastructural projects across the State.

According to the State Government, the loan will be used to support contractors financing and other critical development programmes for the purpose of fastracking economic growth.

The State Lawmakers at the Committee of the Whole, on Tuesday, unanimously voted to approve the loan request.

Most of the members in their contributions, before the approval, noted that the funds would greatly assist in the completion of some vital ongoing infrastructural projects in the State.

They emphasized the huge potential gains that await the State with the completion of the ongoing projects.

Consequently, the legislative body directed the Assembly Clerk to take immediate steps to transmit the certified true copy of the resolution approving the loan request to the Governor for prompt implementation.

The Source reports that the humongous loan facility is coming barely less than 10 months in the life of the Governor Okpebholo’s administration.

Instructively, the loan request and its subsequent approval also are coming at a time the administration is still battling in the Court to secure its electoral mandate.

The petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and its candidate in the September 21, 2024, Edo State Gubernatorial Election, Chief Asue Ighodalo, challenging the electoral victory of Governor Okpebholo is presently before the country’s Supreme Court for a final adjudication .

Osun LG Administration: HURIWA Accuses FG Of Promoting Anarchy

By Ayodele Oni

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has warned against the continued failure of the Federal Government to enforce the appellate Court’s decision on Osun Local Government Administration.

It urged President Bola  Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to uphold the sanctity of the rule of law by directing the Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) to order officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their loyalists to vacate local government secretariats in Osun State.

HURIWA condemned the act, describing it as unlawful occupation and direct violation of a binding judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the electoral victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmen and Councillors.

HURIWA’s National Coordinator,  Emmanuel Onwubiko, on Tuesday, warned against  lawlessness and that the act signals tacit endorsement of impunity.

“The rule of law is the cornerstone of any democratic government and must be protected at all costs.

“The refusal of federal security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, to act in accordance with the appellate court’s judgment validating the PDP-led local governments in Osun is unacceptable.

“President Tinubu must now choose between honoring his oath to defend the Constitution and bowing to partisan political interests.”

HURIWA expressed dismay that APC-aligned officials, under the protection of heavily armed police officers, continue to occupy council secretariats in Osun, effectively preventing the duly elected PDP chairmen and councillors from assuming office.

“The Attorney-General, as the custodian of constitutional integrity, must not turn a blind eye while anarchy is normalized.

“It is both morally and legally indefensible that public servants elected through a lawful process, and whose mandate has been judicially affirmed, are treated as outsiders while impostors hold sway under the protection of state-sponsored security personnel.”

Ogene, INCLUDE Push For Green Jobs Legislation

Victor Ogene

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy, Victor Afam Ogene, has revealed that his committee is collaborating with INCLUDE, a Netherlands based Knowledge Platform to draft a Bill for creation and reservation of specific percentages of green jobs for youths and women demography in Nigeria.

The lawmaker made this disclosure at the South-West Post-Conference Stakeholders’ Roundtable on Renewable Energy in Osogbo, Osun State. The event was a follow-up to the National Legislative Conference on Renewable Energy held in May, where INCLUDE played a key role by hosting the Pan-African Legislative Roundtable on Renewable Energy session.

According to him, “As part of the growing momentum to ensure that Africa’s energy transition also delivers a just and inclusive employment transition, the House Committee on Renewable Energy is advancing plans for a landmark legislative proposal — the National Inclusive Green Jobs Act (NIGJA). This proposed framework aims to link renewable energy investments directly with job creation mandates, skills development targets, and youth and gender inclusion benchmarks.

“NIGJA envisions a future where every solar panel, mini-grid, and clean cooking initiative not only powers homes but unlocks employment opportunities, particularly for Africa’s growing youth population. It will also align with regional trade frameworks under AfCFTA, ensuring that Nigeria’s green workforce can thrive in a competitive, integrated African energy market. The Committee sees this not as a standalone law, but as a foundational piece of a broader national development agenda.” He emphasized.

Ogene noted that the 10th House of Representatives, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, has made renewable energy a top legislative priority. “In a historic first, the Speaker established the House Committee on Renewable Energy to spearhead policies, track progress, and promote investment in sustainable energy solutions,” he said.

He also revealed that the House had adopted a resolution mandating all federal ministries, departments, and agencies to transition to renewable energy sources. “This is a model that could be replicated in the states to drive a unified national development trajectory,” he added.

Other contributors to the session on green job creation and promotion agreed that Nigeria should prioritize creating an enabling environment for the renewable energy sector, generating jobs that benefit youths and women through deliberate policy and supportive legislation.

The event, themed “From Vision to Action: Localising Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Legislative Agenda,” brought together government officials, lawmakers, technical experts, and development partners to advance renewable energy at the sub-national level.

Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi presented the state’s draft Renewable Energy Policy and Climate Action Plan, describing them as “key instruments for building a strong legislative and institutional foundation for an inclusive energy transition.”

In a message delivered on his behalf, Governor Adeleke stated, “We are unveiling our Climate-Smart Investment Portfolio as a strategic roadmap designed to attract responsible capital into renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and the circular economy.”

He added that the Climate Action Plan was developed in consultation with experts, grassroots communities, and development agencies, emphasising inclusiveness and long-term sustainability. “Our climate vision extends beyond today; it is for generations yet unborn,” he said.
