Tinubu Does Not Have The Capacity To Lead Nigeria – Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi and President Bola Tinubu

By Gideon Njoku

No former Governor of Rivers State, including the man Amaechi publicly said played a major role in his life, Dr. Peter Odili, was present

A former two-time Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that President Bola Tinubu does not have the capacity to either govern Nigeria, or lift it out from the doldrums.

Amaechi who was also Nigeria’s Minister for Transportation under the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari also disclosed that the President knows his opinion about his capacity.

Speaking at a lecture in Abuja to mark his 60th birthday, Amaechi said it was because of the capacity-deficit of the President to lead Nigeria that he told Tinubu that he, Amaechi, was not prepared to work with his Government.

The foundation member of the APC also revealed that he neither campaigned for Tinubu nor voted for him.

Amaechi: “I met President Tinubu in Yola and I told him I will not work for you, and I will not vote for you.

“I told him like that. People have been saying I do not work for All People’s Congress (APC), or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). That is because I was convinced that there was an issue of capacity.”

The theme of the birthday lecture was “Weaponization of Poverty” and it was attended by a high profile audience which included the Emir of Kano, Sule Lamido Sanusi, Prof Wole Soyinka, former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai,   former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, several traditional rulers, many others and a whole lot Amaechi’s loyalists from Rivers State.

Incidentally, no past Governor of Rivers State, including the man who he said ranks only second in his life to his biological father, Dr. Peter Odili, was present. Not a few people counted that as a minus for the celebrant.

Amaechi, also, lamented the disaster voting on religious and tribal sentiments have wrought on Nigeria. His words:

“Let me tell you, no Nigerian leader cares for the poor, because they know that Nigerians can do nothing to them once they are in power. When Nigerians protested, the President announced an increase in the price of fuel because they know you cannot do anything.

“Nigerian leaders and elites are not the problem of Nigeria; the problem of Nigeria is the followers.

“We say Nigeria is a capitalist country, but capitalists are those who invest in production, however, Nigeria does not produce anything, we just want to feast on the revenue gotten from crude oil.

“I was ashamed of one of my appointees when I was the Minister of Transport. I appointed her to improve and turnaround things around, unfortunately, she was more interested in speaking Hausa/Fulani to the President.”

“An ordinary Northerner who is a Muslim has no problem with the ordinary Southerner who is a Christian. It is when they come to elections, they will tell you.

“Now you have a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Let the Muslim-Muslim market come out now. It’s time. We are all hungry. All of us are. If you are not hungry, I am”

Speaking on  the 2027 Presidential Elections Amaechi insisted that Tinubu could be beaten in 2027 if the opposition work together and added that beating Tinubu in 2027 is one of the reasons he is in opposition.

Amaechi was was beaten to a distant second place by Tinubu in the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Primaries. Amaechi had alleged after his defeat that the Primary was corrupted by money. Since that defeat, Americans has given both the Party and President Tinubu a lot of space. And, now, finally, he has joined the opposition and publicly says “Tinubu should go!”

Wike Alerts Abuja Residents Of Shortfall In Water Supply

Nyesom Wike - FCT Minister
Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister

By Ayodele Oni

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja are to experience rationing of public water supply from now till during the Sallah celebration

Two out of the water plants supplying the Federal Capital are undergoing major routine rehabilitation.

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, explained that the present lack of water supply  in the City Centre and some satellite towns is due to a major rehabilitation of two of the four water treatment plants responsible for the production and supply of water to the residents.

The Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media,  Lere Olayinka, in a statement on Sunday,  said that water supply to the residents will be rationed for a period of two weeks, as only two water treatment plants will be in use, while the other two are  undergoing rehabilitation.

He appealed to the residents to bear with the FCTA, assuring that rehabilitation of the two plants, which is to ensure better service delivery will be completed before two weeks.

The Minister also said that to mitigate the effects of the partial shutdown of water production and supply during the sallah celebration, the two plants being rehabilitated will be temporarily put on to supply water to residents during the sallah festive period.

He explained that; “The FCT Water Board operates four water treatment plants of 30,000m3/hour, which are divided into Phases 1, 2, 3 and 4.

“As a result of the inefficiency of the plants, which are currently producing below their installed capacity, contract was awarded for their rehabilitation.

“The rehabilitation works have reached an advanced stage on Phases 1 and 2 where the Electro-mechanical equipment, which is the prime mover of the treatment plants are to be replaced and reinstalled. This warranted a total shutdown of the two plants, which are interconnected.

“However, Phases 3 and 4 water treatment plants are operational but won’t sustain, meet or cater for the demand of the populace.

“Therefore, what is being experienced is a partial shutdown, not a total shutdown of the entire potable water supply to the

residents of FCT as two of the water treatment plants are still in operation. But there is partial disruption on water production and supply to the residents.

“SCC is however working 24/7 to ensure that the works are concluded before the scheduled time.

“Consequently, in order to minimize the adverse effects on the FCT residents, the Water Board has made a time table on rationing by alternating between Lines 1 and 2 of the Distribution network.

“Residents are therefore urged to store enough water to cater for their needs during this period as supply will be rationed.”

Response to Atiku’s Statement On Tinubu’s Administration

“Atiku doesn’t like Tinubu’s guts, he forgets to credit his administration with some of the fiscal achievements in the last two years”

My attention has just been drawn to former vice-president Atiku Abubakar’s vitriol against the Tinubu administration and the person of President Bola Tinubu.

Every line of the blanket criticism reeks of hate. Except ex-VP Atiku was beclouded when spewing his criticism, why did he not admit some good deeds by this government in the last two years?

While I respect Atiku and every Nigerian’s right to voice their opinions in our vibrant democracy, I need to set the record straight and address the fallacies in Atiku’s commentary.

Unless Atiku still lives in Dubai, he ought to admit that in just two years, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has embarked on the most ambitious economic and institutional reforms ever seen in decades. During the campaign, he never promised that the reforms would be easy and painless. But he was clear they were necessary to rescue the country from the brink of fiscal collapse to reverse years of unsustainable spending and lay a solid foundation for long-term inclusive growth.

The removal of the fuel subsidy and unification of the foreign exchange system were steps successive administrations, including that of Obasanjo-Atiku Abubakar, acknowledged as necessary but failed to implement. Atiku promised the reforms in his manifesto. Indeed, all three major candidates in the election agreed they must be done, except that the responsibility to implement the reforms fell on President Bola Tinubu, as the winner of the  2023 election.

Unlike Atiku and some critics, everyone agrees that the reforms have stabilised government finances, curbed systemic corruption, and enabled direct investments into social programmes and infrastructure. Foreign investors now see Nigeria as an irresistible destination. Since 2023, the Nigerian Exchange has seen its ASI jump from 50,000 to over 110,000, and market capitalisation has increased to  N69.4 trillion, from about N30 trillion before Tinubu’s ascension.

Contrary to Atiku’s claim that government policies are “anti-people,” the Tinubu administration, fully acknowledging that its policies affect the vulnerable, has increased investments in social safety nets, introduced targeted interventions for low-income households, and more than doubled the minimum wage, from N30k to N70k. Some states even pay up to N85k to their workers, a feat made possible by increased federal allocations.

Atiku’s claim that education was out of reach for poor Nigerians was entirely off the mark. Everyone knows the claim is false; it’s just an attempt to throw any muck at Bola Tinubu.

Since last year, the government has introduced the Student Loan Scheme to ensure that underprivileged children are not denied education because of poverty. As of the last count, over 600,000 Nigerian students have benefitted from the loans. The loans cover the students’ school fees and living allowances. The loans do not yet cover Nigerians in expensive schools like Atiku’s American University in Yola. What is undeniable is that under Bola Tinubu, higher education is now more accessible to deserving youths.

This administration has also made huge investments in health, including revitalising primary health centres and expanding health insurance. The government is also working hard to reduce the cost of medicines.

Atiku again ignorantly accused the Tinubu administration of borrowing fresh money to support the 2025 budget. He obviously relied on social media gossip that the fresh loan request to the National Assembly was for that purpose. The Finance Minister has debunked this as untrue and said that even this year, the government only wants to borrow about $1.2 billion.

Because Atiku does not like  Bola Tinubu’s guts, he forgets to credit his administration with some of the fiscal achievements in the last two years. Revenue has increased phenomenally. Debt service ratio to revenue has declined from 93 percent to 60 percent. This government has paid off the $3.2 billion IMF loan obtained in the Covid years. The current administration has discontinued Ways & Means deficit financing for the first time in decades. State revenue has risen, and subnational governments now have greater resources for local development and to pay their debts. This is the only positive Atiku admitted, forgetting to praise the Tinubu government that made this possible.

This government has admitted honestly that the reforms come with attendant challenges and has worked vigorously to lessen the pain.

But as President Tinubu said in his statement, marking his second anniversary, we have made progress. Inflation is easing, food production is rising, investments are returning, and the foundation for a more prosperous, just, and inclusive Nigeria is being laid. These gains are in plain sight for everyone. Only those who play blind will not see them.

Atiku and his co-travellers in the coalition party he is cobbling together need not worry about their democratic rights. As an acknowledged democrat, President Tinubu will not curtail their rights or silence them.

Finally, criticism must be elevated and constructive. When Atiku opposes government policies, he should also offer a solution. Otherwise, his opposition statements will be dismissed as mere partisan rhetoric and cheap talk.

Nigerians deserve opposition leaders who offer solutions, not just criticism. We invite all Nigerians to judge this administration by its actions, not by the rhetoric of those who have had their opportunities to lead and who bungled the chance in years past, sold national assets for pittance and shortchanged their compatriots.

Reno: “A Useful Idiot”

0
Valentine Obienyem and Reno Omokri

By Valentine Obienyem

The immediate provocation for this column came from a raw yet piercing observation by Yetunde Onigbogi, who, in her recent public commentary, referred to Reno Omokri as a “useful idiot.” Though harsh, the term aptly captures the tragic arc of a man who once claimed the high moral ground but now flounders in the muddy waters of political opportunism.

Onigbogi did not mince words: “Shameless man without principle. The same man you openly disgraced in London has suddenly become omo ologo all because you just need to fill your stomach. You have supported Atiku and disowned him. You supported Obi and disowned him, attacked Tinubu and now praising him… A man of honour will even do things with decency and modicum of shame but look at you: 360⁰ turn around without shame. No wonder the international media stopped giving you space to talk about Nigerian politics. They know you have no honour…”

This is not just a personal attack, it is a lament, a mirror held up to a man who has transformed from an activist into an apologist, from a critic of power to its most eager errand boy. His journey has been one of political somersaults – supporting Atiku, then abandoning him; praising Obi, then denouncing him; vilifying Tinubu, then suddenly worshipping him. Reno Omokri is no longer a commentator. He has become a caricature.

The term “useful idiot,” coined by Lenin, refers to those who are temporarily exploited by a cause or movement, only to be discarded when their usefulness expires. In Reno, we find such a figure: deployable, disposable, and deluded into thinking he is indispensable. His recent genuflection before Tinubu’s presidency is not a demonstration of ideological conversion, but of sheer desperation for relevance. It is, as the Stoic Epictetus warned, the folly of one who seeks the approval of others without first seeking the approval of his own conscience.

Once a frequent guest of international media platforms, Reno now finds those doors quietly closed. He has not been silenced by censorship but by irrelevance. Editors have concluded what many Nigerians are beginning to realise: that Reno’s words carry no weight, no conviction, only a noise that fluctuates with the promise of political patronage.

His defenders may argue that political shifts are natural. True. But a principled shift is always marked by reasoned justification and moral consistency. Reno’s turns are not evolution, they are erosion. A man of honour may change his mind, but he does so with clarity and regret – not with celebratory cynicism. “Renoism,” a nihilistic philosophy, is one we shall explore in the future and encourage students to research.

The philosopher Socrates taught that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” By contrast, Reno lives an over-publicised yet unexamined life, changing positions without pause, without shame, and certainly without reflection. His is a journey not guided by ideals but by impulses, a survivalist in a political jungle he once claimed to stand above.

The Yoruba political establishment, whose praises he now sings and whose clothes he now adore like Alcibiades are no fools. They remember. They record. And they reserve trust for those who show consistency, not those who return with flowery apologies and temporary usefulness. If Reno thinks his recent alliance buys him credibility, he misunderstands the very nature of Yoruba political memory: it forgives occasionally, but it seldom forgets betrayal.

One is reminded of Machiavelli, who wrote, “He who builds his own fortune on the caprice of princes builds on sand.” Reno has built on nothing firmer. Once this season passes, he will discover – as others have – that his usefulness was only tactical. No more.

If Reno’s career ends as a footnote in Nigerian politics, it will not be because he lacked intelligence. It will be because he lacked honour. History does not judge men merely for their eloquence or activism, but for their steadfastness. A man who claims to stand for the people but switches camps at every political convenience has not only betrayed others, he has betrayed himself.

There is still time, perhaps, for Reno to recover some measure of dignity. But that path begins with silence, reflection, and the courage to say: “I was wrong.” Until then, he will remain what Yetunde so aptly named him – a useful idiot, admired by no one, remembered by few, and trusted by none.

Peter Obi Urges Competent Leadership for Africa’s Growth

0
Peter Obi
Mr Peter Obi

The former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, delivered a keynote address yesterday at the London Business School, hosted by the institution’s Africa Business Club, on the theme: “From Promise to Prosperity: Charting Africa’s Development with Political Will and Vision.”

In his presentation, Mr. Obi argued that Africa’s poverty is not due to a lack of resources, but a consequence of poor leadership and mismanagement of its abundant natural wealth.

“Africa is not poor,” he said during the engagement and Q&A session. “It is poorly managed. We are blessed with about 30% of the world’s known mineral reserves and over 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land. 60% of global solar energy potential is in Africa, yet we are still talking about energy poverty.”

Mr. Obi highlighted Africa’s demographic advantage, noting that over 60% of the continent’s 1.4 billion people are young and potentially productive. He projected that by 2050, 40% of the world’s youth will be African, describing it as an untapped asset waiting to be unlocked.

Despite this, he lamented that Africa remains home to extreme poverty, insecurity, and high unemployment, which he attributed to a “failure of leadership.”

“While Asia now contributes over 35% of global GDP, Africa contributes less than 3%,” he noted. “This is largely because Asian leadership focuses on education, healthcare, production, and poverty reduction. In Africa, unfortunately, the reverse is often the case.”

To reverse this trend, Mr. Obi advocated for strategic investments in education, health, food security, and poverty alleviation, calling for a redirection of public resources away from wasteful spending toward human capital development.

“Africa doesn’t lack potential,” he stated. “What we lack is purposeful, accountable, and competent leadership.”

He emphasised that if Africa is to move from promise to prosperity, leadership must be grounded in competence, character, capacity, compassion, and integrity.

The event was attended by students, academics, and members of the African diaspora community, and formed part of the Africa Business Club’s ongoing efforts to foster dialogue on Africa’s development trajectory.

NSA Ribadu Is The Most Honest Man In Nigeria –  Reno Omokri

0
Reno Omokri and Nuhu Ribadu

By Gideon Njoku

Reno Omokri, a former Presidential Adviser during the Presidential Goodluck Jonathan Administration, has said that the National Security Adviser, NSA, Mallam Ribadu, is the most  honest man in Nigeria. Ribadu is a retired Assistant Inspector General of Office, AIG, and the foundation Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Omokri said this in a post on his X  page where he expressed and confirmed and emphasized his absolute loyalty to President Bola Tinubu.

The post was made after Omokri attended the commissioning, by President Bola Tinubu on Saturday, Kilometre 30 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. “Supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda with the most honest individual in Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, at the commissioning of Kilometre 30 of the Lagos-Calabar-Coastal Highway by our great leader, President Bola Tinubu”, Nuhu wrote.

Omokri, also, in the post, praised President Tinubu to high heavens, and prayed that God keeps him in office for six years more – till 2031.

The full text of Omokri’s text reads: ” I met with President  Bola Ahmed Tinubu today and reaffirmed my full, unequivocal and unwavering support for his Renewed Hope Agenda and the goal of making Nigeria a better place for all Nigerians under his Presidency.

“By the grace of God, my prayer is for his Presidency to last for another six years and naturally end on May 29, 3031, after he must have served two terms in office, God sparing his life.

“Proud to have attended the commissioning of Kilometre 30 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway with President Tinubu, our beloved President and Omo Ologo.

“Happening Now: Supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda with the most honest individual in Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, at the commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Coastal Highway by our great leader, President Bola Tinubu.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rekindled my Hope for a greater future for Nigeria. With him as President until 2031, God sparing his life, a new Nigeria is not just possible (pun intended), it is BATifically realisable.”

Recall that Omokri was one of the worst, and most bitter, critics of Tinubu before, and after the 2023 Presidential election. He worked against him and shamed and embarrassed him across the nations – United Kingdom, United States of America. However, suddenly, he made a 360 degrees turnaround and went back to his vomit – President Bola

Tinubu, who generously and kindly forgave him.
