President Bola Tinubu has sent words of encouragement to Nigeria’s representatives at the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nations, (WAFCON), Super Falcons as they play final match.

Already, a Presidential delegation is on its way to attend the final in Rabat to convey the full support of the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to cheer the Falcons to victory.

The delegation comprises the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.

The President’s personally signed message reads: “Tonight, you stand at the cusp of history as you face the host nation, Morocco, in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

“Your performance at this tournament over the past three weeks has been awe-inspiring. You have represented our country with pride, honour, and strength. In the pitch and off the pitch, you have demonstrated true sportsmanship.

“I was delighted to see photographs of your visit to the injured Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana following the semi-final match. That simple act of compassion reflects our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection, which we Africans hold in high regard.

“If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions. Unbeaten in the group stages, victorious in the knockout rounds, and conceding only a goal in the semi-finals. Apart from this, you have emerged triumphant in all your previous nine finals.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, we are rooting for you and praying for your resounding success tonight, as you strive to achieve the crowning accomplishment of lifting a record tenth continental title.

“I have sent a Presidential Delegation to attend the final in Rabat to convey the full support of the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to cheer you on to victory.

“The delegation comprises the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.

“I thank the families of the Super Falcons team, coaches, friends, the Nigerian Community in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco for their steady support throughout this competition.

“You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women, young and old, are rooting for you. I look forward to receiving the team, the trophy, and the officials in Abuja.”

“Ekiti PDP Not Missing Fayose, Eleka, Olujinmi, They’re Irrelevant” – Caretaker Chairman, Adeleke

Dare Adeleke - PDP Ekiti State

By Ayodele Oni

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Ekiti State, Dare Adeleke, has declared that some of the leaders of the party now romancing with either the All Progressives Congress, (APC) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have long lost relevance with the party.

Adeleke, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, pointed out that former Governor Ayodele Fayose, his deputy, Olusola Eleka and Senator Biodun Olujinmi had since been fraternizing with other parties which make them no longer relevant.

“Watching Ayo Fayose on Seun Okinbaloye’s Politics Today on Channels Television Friday evening was like witnessing the delusional dance of an unstable masquerade in a marketplace of absurdity.

“Fayose, unsteady and incoherent, rambled aimlessly, making a complete nuisance of himself as he tried to convince viewers he wasn’t a full-blown traitor to the party that made him. If guilt had a smell, Fayose’s performance would have stunk up the homes of viewers across the globe.

“Fayose tried to justify his bitterness by citing the planned defection of Senator Biodun Olujinmi, claiming she told him she would be leaving PDP on Monday, as if that was some breaking news.

Ayodele Fayose
Ayodele Fayose

“Everyone knows Olujinmi has long fraternized with the APC. Olujinmi, former Deputy Governor Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, and others have been collecting monthly allowances from the APC and are now planning to hide under the ADC, a party of no consequence. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

“What political value does Eleka offer? A man who ran for governor and couldn’t win his ward in Ikere? He delivered zero seats. Eleka has always been a liability to the PDP, and his exit is being celebrated by a party now unburdened by his weight.

“Just like his fellow traveler Fayose, Eleka wanted the party structure handed to him on a platter. Unknown to him, we had already seen his defection coming.

“The fact is that Fayose lobbied for control of two local government EXCOs and was rightly denied. If Fayose were as politically influential as he claims, he would have moved the PDP’s structure in Ekiti to the APC or ADC. But not one ward or LGA chairman has followed him.

“I assure Fayose, the father and grandfather of betrayal, that the PDP, which he now refers to as ‘they,’ remains strong. We will mobilize true party loyalists, not his ADC-bound jokers like Olujinmi and Ojudu, who will remain irrelevant back benchers. Let it be known that the PDP will win Ekiti State, and I am emphatic about this.

“He called the PDP a carcass, yet continues to cling to it. Well, the ‘carcass’ has now spat him out. On Saturday, all PDP local government chairmen issued a statement disowning him and condemning his conduct.”

Unveiled during a special event in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Friday, 4 July 2025, the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to tackling systemic barriers to learning—particularly the challenge of limited electricity in underserved communities.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, stated that the initiative aligns with one of the bank’s core Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars of expanding access to quality education.

Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe also highlighted Fidelity Bank’s broader investment in education, such as the SWEETA School Fees Support Initiative, which has disbursed over ₦8 billion in tuition support to eligible customers; the Read2Lead Writing Competition, which has impacted more than 3,000 students across Nigeria through prizes and grants; the Back-to-School Loans for parents; the Fidelity EduLoan which helps schools with infrastructure upgrades and asset acquisition; as well as the Green Energy Financing Program, which complements the solar-powered bag initiative by promoting sustainable energy use in education via solar energy.

The solar-powered bags—designated for schools across all 20 local government areas in Ogun State—were officially unveiled by Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe alongside Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State.

Mrs. Abiodun praised the project, calling it a crucial and timely intervention in child development and foundational learning.

“This initiative directly enhances learning for children in communities with limited electricity. It’s a brilliant example of how simple, practical innovations can drive profound change—keeping children in school and helping them thrive,” she said.

She further noted its alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education for all, and called on other private sector players to emulate Fidelity Bank’s leadership in social impact.

The Lighting Young Minds initiative is an extension of Fidelity Bank’s mission of empowering Nigeria’s future generations through inclusive, sustainable, and forward-thinking educational solutions. Tension Brews As Aba Traders Protest Demolition Of Shops, Extortion By Leadership

Eziukwu Road International Market

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

Traders at the Eziukwu Road International Market, Aba, have appealed to the Abia State Governo, Dr Alex Otti, to urgently come to their rescue by halting alleged plans by the Market  leadership to disposes  them of their shops hiding under the guise of remodeling and reconstruction efforts.

This is as the Market leadership insisted that the reconstruction plan was duly approved by the owners of the Market, the Aba South Local Council.

The aggrieved traders who, in their numbers, at the weekend staged a peaceful protest march to the Aba South Local Government Secretariat to register their grievances, pointedly accused the Oba Moses Ibe-led market administration of demolishing their shops with a view to reallocating same to cronies.

Leader of the protesting traders, mainly drawn from Zone 21 of the Market, Chizoba Osuala, alleged that the reconstruction effort is just a smokescreen by the Chairman of the Market, Oba Moses, to further appropriate traders’ shops, as was done during similar exercise in the past.

According to Osula, what the present Chairman is trying to do is a repeat of what the former Chairman of the Market, Dr Mike Okoro, (Vote for Jesus), did in 2021, that led to many traders losing their shops till date.

They, therefore, appealed to  Governor Otti and all other relevant authorities to wade in so as to prevent a breakdown of law and order at the market.

The aggrieved traders vowed that  unless the Government intervenes,  they are prepared to lay  down their lives to protect their means of livelihood  from being appropriated by those they described as “greedy market officials”.

Osuala categorically debunked claims by the market authorities that the reconstruction plan was necessitated by the dilapidated nature of the structures.

“Look, we are here today to inform the State Government and Aba South Local Council authorities that our shops which were constructed in 1986 are solid and safe.

“In other words, there is nothing wrong with the structural integrity of the  building housing our shops in Zone 21.

“The truth of the matter is that the place having issues is a small portion of the Zone where we used to hold our meetings. The problem was as a result of  the same greed of the leadership in 2021 when they illegally erected some substandard structures there.

“Now, the illegal structures, at a point began to fail integrity test,  but rather than concentrating on that part for what reconstruction ,they have decided to include our part  accommodating hundreds of shops.

“Information at our disposal has it that the Chairman, Oba Moses Ibe, whose personal shops are also within the axis, is the one orchestrating the demolition and reconstruction plan with the intent to appropriate more shops for himself and  those pushing him.

“This was exactly what Dr Mike Okoro did in 2021 as Chairman of the market when under the guise of reconstruction, many people lost their shops under unclear circumstances.

“Now, they are asking us to pay N 20,000 registration fees ,and their alleged plans for us to pay as much as N10 million each for us to have our shops back at the end of the so-called reconstruction.

“Our position is that even if there are needs for the existing shops to be reconstructed, we should be allowed to do it ourselves.

“Owing to past bitter experiences with the issue of  market stalls reconstruction, we no longer trust them because, almost, the same people behind the past traumatic exercises are the same people that have found themselves back to the leadership position of the market.

“In fact, ever since this present Chairman came into office a few months ago, we have never had peace of mind in the Market.

“It is either  one Levy/tax ,and or rent on daily bases, and these collections will be done by stern-looking thugs. A very little issue that needs to be settled amicably, they will order your shop to be locked.

“We are tired, and we are saying that enough-is enough”,  the aggrieved traders stated.

The Mayor of Aba South Local Government, Sir Obialor Anyanwu, while thanking the protesting traders for their peaceful conduct urged them to remain calm, assuring them that the matter will be amicably resolved.

Represented by his Deputy who is also  a trader at the Eziukwu Road Market, Mayor Obialor  urged them not to take laws into their hands.

But reacting to the traders’ allegations,on Saturday July 26,in an interview, the Chairman, Oba Moses, while denying any personal interests, noted that the  reconstruction plan was drawn and approved by the authorities of the Aba South Local Government,

who are the legal owners of the market.

“For the records, the Eziukwu Road Market and Ngwa Road Market (Ahiaohuru) belong to the Aba South Local Government.

“The reconstruction plan was conceived and approved by the Local Government because it believes that the structures are dilapidated.

“We want to  assure the affected traders that none will lose his shop. After the reconstruction, the original shop owners will get their shops back.

“That is why they have been asked to pay N 20 ,000 registration fee each ,so that there will be a proper record of original shop owners. It will equally serve to know those ,

who will be interested to retain their shops at the end of the exercise.

“As for plans to ask the traders to pay N 10 million for the shops, honestly I am not aware of that. In fact ,it is not true”, Moses stated.

Fubara Hails Wike, Calls Him  “Transformational Leader, Visionary Statesman”

Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike

By Adesina Soyooye

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has hailed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the man who contributed, mainly, to his suspension from office, as a leader with  great vision.

Recall that Fubara is the only State Governor, out of 36 of them, who was reduced to a humiliating suspension from office, triggered by the bitter political crisis between him and his political godfather, Wike.

The result is a six-month suspension which Fubara is still serving, along with his Deputy and Members of the State House of Assembly most of whom are loyal to Wike.

To keep the State running, President Tinubu appointed a Sole Administrator, retired Navy Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas.

About one year into the crisis which grounded the State began, father and son have managed, thanks to prompting from President Bola Tinubu, to patch up their differences and relationship. This has raised the hope that Fubara, even if, eventually, stripped of  the swagger associated with the office of the Governor, will go back to his seat and, to begin with complete his first term, before looking forward to  taking a shot at a second term.

But Fubara does not mind. He is happy there is peace between him and the man who sacrificed all to push him to the Governorship seat. And, in a newspaper advertisement published Saturday, July 26, where he congratulated Wike for the conferment of the Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa, on him by the University of Port Harcourt, Fubara praised Wike to high heavens. He held nothing back in his praises for the Minister who also happens to be his predecessor in office.

Sending the wishes on behalf of his family and the people of Rivers State, Fubara stated:

“This distinguished recognition is not only a celebration of your illustrious accomplishments,  but a testament to your enduring impact as a transformational leader, visionary statesman and proud aluminus whose contributions have significantly advanced the cause of education and national development.”

He continued: “Your unwavering commitment to infrastructural development both in Rivers State and now, in the FCT, along with your legacy of service, has inspired renewed hope in governance and uplifted countless lives across the country.”

Fubara noted that Wike has been outstandingly dedicated to his strategic role in shaping the country. He also expressed his immense pride in joining the Minister to celebrate “this remarkable milestone.”

He signed off as “His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State”.

For the records, unless the President has a sudden change of mind, Fubara’s suspension from office lasts till September, 2025.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been encouraged to adopt digital tools to enhance their operations and drive sustainable growth. This call was made during the Fidelity SME Empowerment Program 2025, held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the bank’s dedicated SME Hub in Gbagada, Lagos.

The event, which drew a large turnout of entrepreneurs and stakeholders, marked the official launch of Fidelity Bank’s initiative to equip 100 growth-ready SMEs with ERPRev-enabled POS systems and business support tools—at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Welcoming guests, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, represented by Mr. Stanley Amuchie, Executive Director/Chief Operations and Information Officer, emphasized the bank’s commitment to SME development:

“At Fidelity Bank, we believe SMEs are not just the backbone of our economy—they are the architects of innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth. Through the Fidelity SME Empowerment Program (FSEP), we are providing 100 entrepreneurs with the tools, training, and support they need to thrive in today’s digital economy.”

Through the initiative, benefiting businesses will receive: a fully-installed POS desktop system, ERPRev business software, receipt printer and barcode scanner, inventory data input support, financial and bookkeeping training, branding and onboarding support, six months of post-installation monitoring; and a free Fidelity POS with instant settlement.

The three-day program features high-impact trainings, masterclasses, and networking opportunities designed to spark innovation, build partnerships, and unlock new markets.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Adaonah Kene-Uyawaune, CEO of Manmark -Fidelity Bank’s strategic partner, noted, “This digital transformation initiative is a game changer. It replaces manual bookkeeping with a unified system that simplifies accounting, inventory, HR, and profitability tracking. These tools are not handouts—they are instruments for long-term business success.”

According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, SMEs make up 96% of all businesses in the country, employ over 80% of the workforce, and contribute nearly 50% to the national GDP. Despite their critical role in the economy, many still rely on manual processes that hinder efficiency and limit access to finance.

Fidelity Bank’s intervention is therefore both timely and strategic—providing SMEs with the digital tools and support they need to streamline operations, improve transparency, and unlock new growth opportunities.

Husband of Mine – A Man of Strength and Integrity!

Nneka Chris-Asoluka and Her Husband

By Nneka Chris-Asoluka

“We had 36 truly joyful years of the deepest love, happiest marriage, and truest partnership that I could imagine. Together, we made memories that will last forever, we laughed and shared the most wonderful moments. And during those 36 years, you prepared me for a day like this”

“Hello, my name is Chris, can I give you a lift?” I turned and found myself looking at this striking, good-looking, personable man, with the most handsome face lit up by a beautiful smile and Romeo-like eyes. I stared and stuttered, but quickly realizing that I was staring, I introduced myself and told him that I was going to look for a taxi after I collected my luggage (I didn’t want to just say yes to his offer, I needed to do small shakara na).

We had just disembarked from the aircraft that departed Enugu to Lagos and I was en route to Yaba for my NYSC orientation training camp. I was actually running late because our flight from Enugu was delayed and I knew I might not be assigned accommodation at the NYSC camp that day if i didn’t hurry up to ensure I was able to get a room placement. This was our first meeting, but I found myself telling him all about the NYSC experience, orientation et al. Trust the vintage Chris, he chuckled under his breath and muttered “do you want to use your NYSC alawee to pay for a cab, when I can safely chauffeur you?” We both laughed in unison and I told him that he will then have to wait for me to grab my luggage. Lest I forget, he had his two very close friends with him – late Oscar Onwudiwe and Okey Anueyiagu. They had attended a friend’s traditional wedding in Anambra state and were coming back to Lagos (they all had the signature swagger of then Lagos Big Boys!).

Chris dropped me off at the Yaba NYSC camp but not before dropping Oscar off at his residence in Ikeja where I was introduced to Oscar’s wife, the very beautiful Maureen, pregnant with their second child. Maureen proceeded to serve us a sumptuous English  breakfast (I actually forgot I was rushing to camp. The food was too delicious. Lol). Finally we set off for the Yaba camp. On arrival, we met the longest line chockfull with corpers jostling to ensure they got room accommodation space before the close of the day. On seeing the shocking queue, Chris opted to stay with me till I got a room, offering to help me carry my things around instead of doing it all by myself. I responded that he might not be able to wait that long and that he could leave and I’d manage. He waited! The wait became so long that I again asked him to leave and that I’ll see him later but he, not sure I’ll look him up after that day( though he always denied this fact), he insisted on taking my things with him to his house and will bring them back to me once I contact him on my room placement details.

So he left with my things and gave me his home phone number and house address. Well, I ended up not getting a room assigned to me that day. But thanks to my sweet cousin Ifeyinwa Ebie now Ifeyinwa Osime, who found out that there was a vacant bed space in the room she was allocated, I finally had where to sleep. But now, I needed my things and opted to go that evening and get them. I didn’t want to go alone so I went to my bosom friend late Amaka Obiofuma’s house( later became Amaka Modebe) to co-opt her into going to Chris’s house with me. When she heard I let a complete stranger carry my personal things to his house, she screamed and said to me “what did this man do to you? Is it juju? It must be ooo, hmmm, Nneka, this is so unlike what you’ll do”.  I thought about it myself but shaa ooo, Chris had a magnetic aura and I was soooo drawn by it (who can blame me). After admonishing me, Amaka agreed to go with me to retrieve my things(she didn’t really have a choice) and on getting to Chris’s house, he received us very well. Amaka kept on whispering to me that this man can’t be single and living in such opulence with a cook and steward at his beck and call and there was a photograph of a very beautiful woman strategically placed in one corner of the sitting room which Amaka pointed out to as being his wife( it was his mum’s photo but we didn’t know then and didn’t ask. Why ask? That will be too forward biko).

I believed her ooo, and couldn’t wait to leave with my belongings. Chris ever so charismatic, refused to allow us take a taxi and offered to drop us in Amaka’s house. We agreed and he did! On getting to Amaka’s house, he asked that I let him know immediately I get a room placement at the NYSC camp so he’ll know where to come find me later. Surprisingly, after that day, we did not see each other again for the next one year. He gave me his home phone number which I lost(remember Amaka and I had agreed already he was married) and he not knowing which block I was housed in at the NYSC camp, could not locate me. But fate brought us once more together at the wedding reception of Nkechi and Emeka Ugwuoju. The funny thing is that I had actually attended the wedding with a male friend, but on sitting down, I felt someone tap me at my back. I turned to see who tapped me, and met the same captivating gaze I delightedly recalled. It was Chris whom I had not seen since the day he dropped me at Amaka’s house. We chatted throughout and rekindled what was meant to be, and when it was time for us to go, I just waved goodbye to the other guy and went with Chris. Chaii, that was not very nice. Lol. Don’t blame me ooo, Chris’s charisma and charm were legendary. Nwokeoma with an impeccable dress sense. Even my dad who had vehemently refused that I marry someone not from Anambra State capitulated on sighting Chris for the first time. He discussed with him as if they had always known each other. You could see he was proud of my choice.

I had the opportunity and rare privilege of being the wife and partner of this wonderful, loving, kind and God fearing man. Life could not have been better than that because I was living every woman’s dream.

His life taught me unconditional love and his death taught me kindness. I am grateful that for almost 36 years I had the opportunity to share his dreams, hopes, love, friendship and much more.

My husband Chris was such a wonderful man. I’m not sure I can really express just how much I will miss him. Not only was he a wonderful husband, but the greatest father, grandfather, best friend, colleague … and so much more. Chris’s ability to make everyone feel comfortable, secure and loved were his greatest strengths. Have I talked about his intellect? Chris was so brilliant and talented. He could engage the brightest minds on any subject and still come out tops! He read wildly, voraciously and pursued knowledge with so much passion, energy and enthusiasm.

He was deeply philosophical about life and the universe. He believed and always posited that life is like a theatrical performance, with people playing different roles and experiencing various stages of life, each with their own unique roles and responsibilities within the larger drama of life. Such performances end when you reach your “bus stop” and have to disembark. Chris also believed that one had no say when that “bus stop” is reached and once it’s your turn, you get off and the bus moves on to “offload” others. He would always joke that according to the Bible, 70 years is what God granted man and the rest number of years is ‘jara’, and that at 70, a man should’ve lived out God’s purpose and be ready to heed the call and appreciate God’s faithfulness. He had this to say at all times, “onwu agbalam ohuhu, agami atula gi uwa” meaning “death do not hurry me up, when the time comes, I’ll gladly yield”.

My husband Chris spoke Owerre dialect like his life depended on it, he never will be caught speaking any other Igbo dialect. I remember when we were newly married, he will be conversing with my dad in Owerre dialect and my dad will be nodding and later will draw me aside to ask “ Nnenne, Chris osili gini?”, Nnenne, what did Chris say? And I’ll laugh so hard. Chris later found out that my dad had difficulties understanding the Owerri dialect and from then on, he switched to conversing with my dad in English. The irony of it all is that Chris can speak the Anambra Igbo dialect so fluently having grown up in Enugu but he will NOT speak it. He spoke Owerre with panache, flamboyance and style!  I had no choice but to become fluent in Owerre language. He was a proud Owerre thoroughbred and reveled in its mastery and the title Okwuruoha/ OkwuruOwerre collectively bestowed on him by ndi Eze Owerre was a testament of his commitment towards his people and Ndigbo at large..

A man of unwavering principles. A tower of strength. A soul of generosity, rare intellect, and profound wisdom. “OkwuruOwerre” lived a life anchored in service – to God, to family, to community, and to country. His compassion was unfiltered, his integrity unshakable, his vision limitless. Never one to compromise on his values and principles, he shunned short term gains which he called long term negatives. He was remarkable and dependable and I couldn’t have asked for a better spouse.

A man of the people. A man who stood by his family throughout.

A man who was a hero to all who knew him. A man who forgave so easily! A man who loved unconditionally. A man who believed in sharing and caring. A man who put a smile on people’s faces. A man who was so full of life.

Le Kristo mu, husband of mine, we had 36 truly joyful years of the deepest love, happiest marriage, and truest partnership that I could imagine … you gave me the experience of being deeply understood, truly supported and completely and utterly loved – and I will carry that with me always. Together we made memories that will last forever, we laughed and shared the most wonderful moments.

I am beyond grateful you were by my side through our 36 years incredible journey as husband and wife. And during this 36 years, you prepared me for a day like this, you gave me a free hand to handle things trusting my decisions and my capabilities. Imeela dim oma. I am not confounded, confused or broken because that’s not what you’ll want to see in me, you certainly did a good job and I’ll be forever grateful for your leadership and guidance. I give God all the glory for the beautiful, rewarding, fulfilling, honest and remarkable life you lived. It’s never how long, but how well and your life was well lived to His glory! I remember you telling me that God’s will should be the ultimate goal of one’s life and destiny and we as mortals should never question it but embrace it believing that His will is the best for us! When I remember all these our conversations, I am comforted knowing that you are in a good and happy place. We will be ok, you made sure that we will be!

To our children, you were the best father, firm but loving. You poured yourself into them, you inculcated good values and principles into them and taught them honesty, love, kindness, contentment and integrity. You taught them to always remember the good name they bear! They were your pride.

You extended the same warmth and fatherly role to your son in-law Tobe, and daughter in-law Jane. You bonded with them in the short time they joined our family and we became one big happy family.

Our grandson Ebubenna, gave you so much happiness and you proudly declared him as “The Future”! I thank God he came during your lifetime.

We do not mourn your passing but celebrate your time here with us, and thank God for the opportunity to share this space with you, and to call you ours.

We will carry your memory with us and it brings me comfort to know that so much of you is alive in our family and friends.

The children and I will always love you, remember you and pray for you.

Goodnight, my love, till we meet on the resurrection morning!

Your wife,
Nneka Chris-Asoluka (Lolo Okwuruoha).

ADC Congratulates New APC  Chairman, But Says To Him: “Stay  in Your Lane”

APC Chairman Yilwada

By Adesina Soyooye

Holding of Political Party’s meetings in the Villa not acceptable

The fledgling African Democratic Congress, ADC, has told the new National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, that among other things, Nigeria needs Party Leaders who have respect for other Parties and value democracy.

The ADC’s  congratulatory message to Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda on his  appointment pointed out to him, tongue-in- cheek, that he is the fourth National Chairman of the APC in two years.

It said that stating that his emergence presents yet another opportunity for the APC to embrace the core values of participatory democracy.

In the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC was cautious in its  optimism that the latest change in APC leadership  might come with “a shift in both substance and style — especially regarding how the ruling party conducts its affairs and engages with the opposition.”

The statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi reads in

full:

“We at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) extend our congratulations to Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda on his appointment as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“While we understand that leadership transitions are routine, we are hopeful that this particular appointment might trigger a shift in tone, temperament, and trajectory for a party that has too often equated governance with propaganda, and power with impunity.

“We expect that under the stewardship of the new Chairman, the APC and the federal government it controls will start to show greater tolerance for opposition voices and alternative viewpoints with the understanding that in a democracy, disagreement is not sabotage, and criticism is not subversion.

“We hope Professor Yilwatda will channel his high education and experience towards improving the democratic credentials of his party and its government, which, so far, has been marked by intolerance and what has  often appeared like deliberate plan to eliminate all opposition parties and foist a one-party rule on  the country.

“This is why we must register our dismay that the very National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that brought Professor Yilwatda into office was held within the confines of the State House — a public institution, funded by the Nigerian people, not a party office or private residence.

“The decision of the ruling party to host its party meeting at the seat of government is an aberration that underlines how far this government has strayed from the foundational norms of democratic accountability.

“We urge the new Chairman to guide his party towards respecting the line — now dangerously blurred — between party and state.

“Furthermore, we take note of Professor Yilwatda’s previous role as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC). This is no small credential. It comes with a deep understanding of electoral ethics, neutrality, and public trust.

“We sincerely hope he will draw on this experience to promote the sanctity of our electoral processes, rather than using insider knowledge to game the system in favour of his party, as has often been the case under the APC’s watch.

“In closing, we pray for Professor Yilwatda that  may his tenure be longer than those of his predecessors and his exit more honourable.

“Signed,

“Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi

National Publicity Secretary

African Democratic Congress (ADC)”
