Coup Plot: NDDC MD, Ogbuku, Resurfaces, Meets Agric Stakeholders In Niger Delta
By Ayodele Oni
Amidst report of his arrest in connection with alleged coup plot, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, on Thursday, addressed agricultural stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The engagement, which formed part of a two-day strategic meeting preparatory to the forthcoming Niger Delta Agricultural Summit, attracted Commissioners for Agriculture and Permanent Secretaries from all nine Niger Delta states, as well as representatives from key agricultural agencies and private sector partners.
In his address, Dr. Ogbuku urged stakeholders in the region to begin a conscious shift from dependence on crude oil to a diversified economy anchored on agriculture, stressing that agriculture remains the most viable path to achieving food security, job creation, and sustainable regional development.
“The Niger Delta must look beyond oil. Agriculture holds the key to our economic transformation and long-term stability.
“Through collaborative planning and targeted investments, we can unlock the enormous potential of our farmlands and create sustainable livelihoods for our people,” Ogbuku stated.
He emphasized that the NDDC under his leadership was already implementing programmes that integrate agricultural innovation, agribusiness incubation, and youth empowerment to drive inclusive growth across the region.
The social media has been washed with report of Ogbuku’s arrest and detention in connection with a botched coup.
Pinnick Distances Self From Alleged Misuse Of Funds For FIFA Kebbi Project
By Akinwale Kasali
Amaju Pinnick, former Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, President, has debunked claims that the funds meant for the FIFA Goal Project in Kebbi State was misused.
The former FIFA Member described the accusations as “completely misconstrued” and unfounded.
Defending the project’s management, Pinnick maintained that it was handled according to FIFA’s strict financial guidelines.
He explained that every stage of the process was carefully monitored by the international body.
Pinnick stated, “If FIFA gives you their money, they audit their money, they know A to Z, and they have standards. So if the contract was about $1.1 million in 2020, how much was it in naira?
Less than ₦400 million, that’s what people don’t know.”
Pinnick further clarified that although the COVID-19 pandemic caused some construction delays, the budget remained unchanged and no extra funds were allocated.
“Everything went according to plan. You can hate Amaju Pinnick, but love Nigerian football,” he stated.

OPINION: The Log in America’s Eye
By Azu Ishiekwene
Apart from tariffs, another word that the Trump presidency is fond of is genocide. First, it was South Africa. During South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the White House last May, President Donald Trump played a video suggesting that white South Africans were under genocidal attack. It was a fake video, of course, but Ramaphosa couldn’t convince Trump.
Instead of looking at Gaza, where the world has serious concerns about genocide, Trump’s fellow Republicans have now turned their attention to Nigeria, requesting Congress to call out the Nigerian government on charges of genocide against Christians.
It’s not just the calculated mischief that should cause Nigerians to worry; it’s the fact that the most prominent promoters of this deadly prank are non-Nigerians. Senator Ted Cruz, or former Mayor of Blanco, Texas, Mike Arnold, are not the first or second among a crop of doom-casters for whom the continued existence of this multifarious country remains an aberration they must discourage.
Origins ofthe ‘genocide’ story
Cruz may have drawn inspiration fromthe Armageddon foretold by former US ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, who, based on a CIA report in 2005, predicted the potential collapse of Nigeria in 2015 from ethnic and sectarian tensions.
Although it is 2025,10 years after Campbell, Cruz, and some hirelings from within Nigeria still suggest that Nigeria may yet collapse, the narrative is now more sinister.
It is no surprise that the current campaign coincided with Nigeria’s position, along with 142 other countries at the UN General Assembly in September, for the recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine and the immediate cessation of the war in Gaza.
Those who originated the calumny did not just hurl “genocide” from the furnace of mischief; they thrust it at the very heart of Nigeria’s biggest fault line – religion. The roughly 50-50 Christian-Muslim population in Nigeria means that when the Church and the Mosque are up in arms, common sense is the first casualty.
Enablers of Sahelian misery
Once religion is at issue, base passions take over the streets and logic or moderation flees. This is the bait Cruz, Arnold and some other campaigners in the US Senate are casting, blatantly and blithely, oversimplifying the complex mix of terrorism, banditry, insurgency, criminality and environmental challenges/climatic conditions which are at the core of Nigeria’s security problems.
In doing so, they have conveniently ignored the fact that a significant part of the security problem in the Sahel today is rooted in the destabilisation the US caused when it violently overthrew Muammar Gaddafi in Libya and opened the floodgates for cheap and easy arms to flood sub-Saharan Africa.
Cruz is right and wrong
Cruz and others are right to express their concern about the death toll from the violence caused by insurgency-related attacks and banditry, which has claimed thousands of lives and left an estimated 2.3 million displaced. To describe the attacks in Nigeria as a genocidal assault on Christians, however, is like classifying the regrettable rise in homicidal incidents in the US as a genocidal attack on blacks and minorities. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.
As Cruz knows, there are over 11,000 firearm shooting deaths every year, excluding suicides, and tens of thousands of nonfatal injuries. Mass shootings numbered in the thousands over this decade, with several hundred U.S. school shootings contributing significantly to the toll. Unfortunately, blacks and minorities are the largest victims of these homicides.
Homicide v Genocide
According to data from sources like the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), “In the last 10 years (2015-2025), gun violence in the United States has remained a severe public health and safety crisis with tens of thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands of injuries annually.
“In 2023, there were approximately 46,728 firearm-related deaths in the U.S., with suicides accounting for around 58 percent (about 27,300 deaths) and homicides accounting for about 38 percent (roughly 17,927 deaths).
“The national firearm death rate rose from about 10.3 per 100,000 people in 1999 to 14.0 per 100,000 by 2023.”
These statistics are alarming because every life is precious and matters. Yet, they cannot, by the wildest stretch of Cruzian definition, be classified as genocide, even though the victims are mainly blacks and minorities.
Not what they think
Murderous bandits have killed Nigerian Christians, just as they have killed Muslims and non-believers. A 2025 study of the sociology of banditry by Peer Schouten and Barnett James of the Danish Institute of International Studies distinguishes banditry from jihadism. Bandit networks operate with little ideological or religious ambition. They are roaming/stationary predators seeking authority, power and influence.
Cruz’s Republican Partyhas lived in denial of the mass killing of women, children and civilians in Gaza – a war fuelled by American arms and backed by the American state for all of two years. But it is for Nigeria that a label must be made.
There has been intractable sectarian violence across all the regions of Nigeria. But none of it qualifies as a genocidal campaign by one religion against another, despite reprisal attacks in many instances. All the supporting or opposing narratives from either religious side are, for the most part, reflexive self-defence – driven more by opportunism and identity politics.
All victims
The insurgency in the Northeast, which has lasted since 2009, has raged in predominantly Muslim parts of the country and has killed and displaced more Muslimsin as many years. The banditry in the Northwest is not any different, with significantly the same demographics in casualties, damage and destruction.
The mutation and spread of these armed groups have been significantly linked to mineral theft and exploitation sponsored by multinational conglomerates and Western powers, which prop up shadow states and shadow rulers – as amply documented by British investigative journalist Tom Burgis in his book, The Looting Machine.
The complex farmer/herder clashes in the North Central region of Nigeria owe their persistence to a great extent to government failure, changing climatic conditions, and criminality, rather than religion.
Separatist groups in the Southeast of Nigeria are historical and derive from the Nigerian civil war, which ended more than 50 years ago. The war had nothing whatsoever to do with religion, other than the sheer accident of fate, fueled by the squalid legacy of British colonial rule.
Remember Gaza
The frightful and horrendous incidents in Rwanda (1994), Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-95), the Nazi Holocaust (1941-45) and the ongoing case in Gaza are in no way comparable to what is happening in Africa’s most important country.
To conflate Nigeria’s complex troubles caused by a plethora of issues, confrontations, and their blowouts as genocide is disingenuous and alarmist. It’s a grotesque distortion of realities on the ground. Christians, Muslims and folks who don’t care about either have been caught up in the violence and are, for the most part, helpless victims.
Interestingly, sensational narratives like Cruz’s become amplified whenever Nigeria approaches an election. It might not be a bad idea also to remind Cruz of the epidemic ofU.S. gun violence – and Gaza.

Igboanugo Tackles Omokri, Alleges He Gets Paid N30m Monthly To Demonise Peter Obi
By Charles Igbo
A Veteran Journist who was also a former Ministerial Adviser, Sunny Igboanugo, has tackled Reno Omokri over his continuous, and atimes unnecessary attack on Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State and the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party.
Stung by the, almost, everyday attack on Obi by Omokri, Igboanugo has alleged that Omokri, reportedly, gets paid to the tune of N30m a month to destroy Obi.
Igboanugo’s reaction stems from Omokri recent mockery of Obi over what he dismissed as Obi’s poor School Certificate result.
Omokri, in the past couple of days, has been posting Obi’s School Certificate results which he described as not impressive and so concluded that Obi is, afterall not intelligent, considering his School Certificate results.
Stung by that low attack, Igboanugo responded by alleging that Omokri gets paid a whooping $20,000 Monthly, allegedly, by the Federal Government to attack Peter Obi. Given the current exchange rate, that amount translates to N30million monthly.
In a post on his Facebook page, Igboanugo wrote: “We hear that he’s on a $20,000 monthly contract in the Obi project.”
The accomplished journalist popularly known as The Tiny Voice in the post entitled “So Reno still get mouth?” wrote:
“After about a week’s hiatus since Mike Arnold’s bombshell, Reno returns with his Project-Obi.
“This time, he’s displaying Obi’s WAEC result to prove that the former governor is not intelligent.
“Now, Reno forgets that with that same result, Obi not only gained admission into UNN, one of Nigeria’s most iconic ivory towers, but gone ahead to break many grounds.
“Not only that he went through the great institution, he distinguished himself in an extraordinary manner as a creator of wealth, with record-breaking achievements in this regard.
“Reno seems to forget that outside the record of becoming a student-millionaire, he rose to sit on the boards of some of the topmost blue chip companies in the country including holding the enviable record of the youngest Chairman of a major bank in Nigeria’s history.
“With the same certificate Reno is displaying derisively, Obi, not only emerged a governor but one of the most influential politicians in modern Nigerian history.
“On the flipside, what has Reno got to show for his own “first-class” brain? The highest attainment is perhaps his stint as social media anchor for President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Since then, what else? From false Lear Sharibu project, to trolling Buhari, to licking his own spittle by bootlicking Tinubu, the same man he called a druglord, to visiting Dangote and other successful people in power and authority, for photoups, what has he to his name?
“Okay, we hear that he’s on a $20,000 monthly contract in the Obi project. But this is a chicken-feed for Obi. Save that he would consider it a waste, Obi could double that amount without thinking anything about it.
“Curiously, the same Reno doesn’t have the presence of mind to post either the primary or secondary school certificate of Tinubu, the man he advertises as a genius.
“He fails to tell his audience why Tinubu’s is blank in the same INEC records from whence he pulled out Obi’s WAEC result.
“Couldn’t he have tried to solve the mystery of the “genius” reportedly passing out of Government College Lagos four years before it was established?
“Isn’t that more interesting than telling his audience that Obi, who, even as a student, was once a landlord to the iconic Sultan of Sokoto and Savannah Bank, is not intelligent?
“Isn’t it akin to arguing that Bill Gates is not intelligent because he’s a university dropout?
“Meanwhile, shouldn’t he be telling his audience something about that his fancy Lamborghini which he claimed he was covering the plate number to prevent Obidients from using it to trace his house in California and harm him?
“But what do you say of someone who has clearly sold his shame completely? What else remains of the madness that has gone to the market? Isn’t it beyond redemption?
“Indeed, that Reno would open his mouth so soon after this Mike Arnold’s saga is the height of it! Pity! _ The Tiny Voice!”
Reno, a once very bitter critic of President Bola Tinubu, turned around, 360 degrees, to become one of his staunchest admirers and supporters.
Alleged Coup Plot: Sylva’s Aide Confirms Raid On Residence By Soldiers, Says They Inflicted Damage
By Adesina Soyooye
“The operatives, suspected to be from Defence Headquarters inflicted considerable damage to Sylva’s property when they raided it” – Bokoru, Sylva’s Media Aide
Chief Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant Media and Public Affairs to the immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has confirmed that the residence of his Principal was raided by soldiers.
Sylva’s name has been linked to an alleged Coup plot aimed at overthrowing the President Bola Tinubu Government.
16 Military Officers are already under arrest, but the Military denies their arrest has any connection with any aborted Coup plans. However, the social media is awash with the allegation that one of those arrested fingered Sylva as an alleged financier of the plot, an allegation for which Sylva’s home was raided.
Sylva’s aide while distancing him from any Coup plot, and dismissing the allegation as political mischief, said the former Minister is not on the run but on a routine medical check-up in the United Kingdom with his wife, after which he would proceed to Malaysia for a professional conference.
He, however, confirmed that Sylva’s home was raided by some operatives from the Defence Headquarters who he said inflicted damages to the house.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be from operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property.
“As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom, after which he was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia”.
Chief Bokoru did not say why Sylva’s residence was raided by soldiers as he said the raiders did not disclose why.
Sylva was a one-term Governor of Bayelsa State.
In 2023 while serving as Minister of State Petroleum Resources under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Sylva purchased the forms to contest the Presidential election against then aspirant Bola Tinubu. He, however, chickened out before the Primaries and went back to his ministerial job. Since he left office, he has been conspicuously absent from most political affairs, especially, after he, also, lost in the 2023 Governorship Primary in Bayelsa.
Southwest Unites, Pushes For Power Devolution, True Federalism
By Ayodele Oni
Southwest Governors, traditional rulers, ministers and regional leaders on Wednesday met in Akure, Ondo State, to push for devolution of powers, true federalism and renewed cooperation among states in the South-West.
The meeting, tagged Southwest Leaders’ Dialogue was hosted by the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, with the theme, “Strengthening Democracy Through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future.”
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa said democracy must be strengthened through institutional reforms and open dialogue between the federal and state governments.
“Today, we stand at a threshold of history. Shall we continue with centralisation when true federalism demands devolution of powers?” he asked. “Strength without renewal fades. Dialogue must go beyond talk; it must birth action.”
The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its economic reforms, which he said had stabilised the economy, improved allocations to states and restored fiscal discipline.
He listed several ongoing federal projects in the South-West, including the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway (with a 71km stretch in Ondo State), the proposed Ilaje Deep Sea Port, the NDDC/Ode-Erinje Transmission Line and Substation, the Akure–Ado-Ekiti Dual Carriageway, and the Ore–Ondo–Akure and Benin–Ofosu–Ore highways.
The Governor also mentioned the planned 1,000 Federal Housing Authority units in Ondo State, the take-off of the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, and the proposed aviation school in Akure as part of federal–state collaboration to drive development.
According to him, “These collaborations demonstrate the maturing of our democracy. The bond between citizens and government is being strengthened. Our people are beginning to feel a sense of ownership in governance.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed Ondo State’s role as a centre for progressive engagement, saying the dialogue was aimed at building consensus for national development.
He further appreciated the role of traditional institutions and regional think tanks such as the DAWN Commission and Afenifere in sustaining intellectual dialogue on development. According to him, their inputs continue to shape policy discussions across the zone.
In his speech, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, called for a unified regional agenda to promote inclusive growth and strengthen democracy.
He stated that the South-West had always led the nation in governance, education and innovation, and should continue to serve as a model for other regions.
Sanwo-Olu praised President Tinubu’s reforms for stabilising the naira, attracting investments and enhancing revenue generation.
“Today is the time for us to reclaim our heritage of innovation, education and good governance. The Southwest can and will lead Nigeria’s rebirth,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu lauded the DAWN Commission and the Ondo State Government for hosting the dialogue, describing it as a visionary effort to reassess progress and create a united framework for future cooperation.
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said democracy thrives where dialogue exists, calling for continued collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen inclusion and accountability.
He pointed out that the meeting had reinforced the need for states to work together to deliver democratic dividends and promote trust between government and citizens.
According to him, participatory governance remains essential for peace and development, as citizens must be involved in shaping the policies that affect their lives.
Abiodun pledged Ogun State’s continued commitment to policies that enhance economic resilience and unity across the South-West region.
Leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, represented by Senator Femi Okunrounmu, urged governors to prioritise collaboration over politics, adding that successful ideas should be shared across states to improve governance in the region.
“To our governors, your people elected you to improve their lives. When Osun innovates successfully, let Oyo adopt and adapt. When Lagos leads, let others follow. When Ondo comes up with solutions, let others adopt,” he said.
Describing the meeting as a practical example of democracy in action, the Afenifere leader said the lessons of division from past decades must guide leaders to embrace consensus and mutual trust.
He appealed to political leaders to ensure that policies are people-oriented and responsive to the needs of the masses.
Pa Fasoranti expressed optimism about the region’s prospects, praying that the dialogue would mark a new phase of cooperation and peace. He said unity must transcend party lines to ensure collective progress and justice for all.
Traditional rulers present, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, and the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, called for continued dialogue and collaboration among leaders.
The Alaafin urged stakeholders to confront corruption and governance challenges through open conversation and participation, while the Olowo commended the South-West governors and the DAWN Commission for their efforts in promoting regional unity.
Former Osun State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, described Nigeria as being at a turning point, saying Tinubu’s reforms in fiscal and economic sectors were rebuilding the foundation of the country.
He called for genuine federalism, regional empowerment and economic diversification through the Southwest Development Commission.
The event, which had thematic sessions, featured the Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola; the Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu and Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Adekunle Salako as session speakers.
