Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved his cabinet, relieving all Commissioners and other Public Officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect.

The dissolution was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi.

According to the statement, the Governor held a private valedictory session with members of his cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The State House of Assembly had, a few days after reconvening from the six months emergency rule, requested the Governor to forward a list of Commissioner-nominees  for screening.

The dissolution may likely pave way for the inclusion of loyalists of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike into the Cabinet .

The valedictory session also doubled as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The statement stated that Governor Fubara used the occasion to appreciate the Commissioners for their contributions and dedication to the growth and development of Rivers State over the past two years.

While highlighting the significance of Nigeria’s Independence, the Governor called on all Nigerians to join hands with President Bola Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation.

He further restated his commitment to serve the people of Rivers State with renewed vigour, while extending his gratitude to citizens for their continued support, and wished Nigerians a joyful 65th Independence Anniversary.

Hope Uzodimma- Governor of Imo State

As Nigeria celebrates her 65 years of Independence, the Imo State Governor,  Senator Hope Uzodimma has expressed pride in the nation’s resilience and progress over the past six and a half decades.

In a broadcast to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary, Governor Uzodimma acknowledged the challenges Nigeria has faced, and emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility in building a greater nation, aligning with this year’s theme: “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence in 1960, the governor highlighted significant advancements in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure, noting the increase in universities from one in 1960 to over 200 today. This he said has contributed immensely to Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s largest producers of skilled labor.

Governor Uzodimma noted recent economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates, which have fostered transparency and boosted investor confidence.

He praised the ongoing improvements in agriculture and solid minerals, which have led to a trade surplus for six consecutive quarters.

The governor also underscored the progress made in Imo State, citing the delivery of over one hundred and twenty quality road projects and the establishment of the Imo Health Insurance Scheme, which provides affordable healthcare to thousands.

He emphasized the importance of digital infrastructure and skills development to prepare the youth for future job opportunities.

Governor Uzodimma reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of workers and senior citizens, highlighting Imo State’s record-breaking minimum wage of one hundred and four thousand naira, well above the national standard.

He therefore assured the people of Imo of brighter days ahead and encouraged them to remain hopeful and dedicated to nation-building.

Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians not to despair despite the current challenges experienced in the land but continue to nurture hope in the possibilities of greatness within the country.

Dr. Jonathan stated this in his goodwill message to Nigerians on the occasion of the 65th Independence anniversary in which, he said, “offers us an opportunity to reflect on our collective journey of nation-building.”

The former President wrote: “Our nation marks another significant milestone in its journey to nationhood. As we celebrate 65 years of independence from colonial rule, this moment offers us an opportunity to reflect on our collective journey of nation-building; on the challenges we have faced, and on the vast possibilities that still lie ahead.

“It is true that we face challenges that could test our sense of hope; insecurity, economic disparities and institutions that often struggle to deliver on the promises of improved wellbeing, peace and security. Yet, as citizens, we must not lose faith. We must continue to nurture hope and sustain belief in the nation’s enormous potential and the resilience of the people.

Nigeria is a blessed nation, endowed with vast land, abundant natural resources, and, above all, the ingenuity and creativity of the people.

“Our cultural richness, our knowledge, and our wisdom have continued to distinguish Nigerians across every sphere of human endeavor, both at home and abroad.

“As we look to the future, let patriotism guide our actions. Let us hold firmly to optimism and faith, knowing that the greatness of our country is within reach if we remain united and steadfast. May our nation continue to rise in strength and purpose.”

Nigeria at 65: Obi Decries Leadership Failures, Says “A Great Nigeria is Still Possible”

Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to draw strength from the resilience of the past while demanding accountability from today’s leaders, as the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, titled “A Great Nigeria is Still Possible,” Obi reflected on the promise of October 1, 1960, when Nigeria emerged from colonial rule to global acclaim as an African power in the making. He recalled that Time Magazine once predicted Nigeria’s rise as a true African superpower, noting that the founding fathers fought for freedom with passion and determination to build a nation of prosperity and pride.

Obi lamented that decades of poor leadership derailed that vision, with the situation worsening under the current administration. “Today, the picture is bleak,” he said, citing Nigeria’s mounting debt of about N175 trillion—nearly 50 percent of GDP—without improvements in the productive sector. He noted that Nigeria has slipped to the fourth-largest economy in Africa, behind South Africa, Egypt, and Algeria, while its democracy is increasingly described as “undemocratic.”

The former Anambra governor criticised what he described as extravagant government spending amidst widespread poverty. He pointed to billions allocated for new jets, yachts, luxury cars, and renovations of official residences, contrasting them with meagre budgets for healthcare, education, and science. “Billions are spent on luxuries that outweigh the combined budgets of teaching hospitals and ministries essential for national growth,” Obi said.

Obi further highlighted the impact of reckless borrowing, crippling insecurity, and widespread corruption, which have deterred investment and deepened hardship. He warned that UNICEF and the World Food Programme project that 33 million Nigerians could face acute hunger in 2025, while over 150 million already lack access to healthcare, education, water, and sanitation.

Despite these challenges, Obi urged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that the vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria remains alive. “A society cannot survive on injustice, waste, and misrule. Yet, just as we overcame colonialism and dictatorship, so too can we overcome today’s failures. A great Nigeria is still possible—one built on justice, fairness, productivity, and the dignity of its citizens,” he concluded.

Kwara Attacks: Security Agents Eliminate Bandits, As Govt Flays  Report

The Kwara State Government has condemned reports aimed at discouraging security agents that are currently confronting bandits unleashing terror on communities in the state.

The state government, in a statement in Ilorin, stated that reports which claimed that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) disarmed vigilantes in Oke-Ode, a town in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state was untrue.

Gunmen had on Sunday killed 12 and abducted an unspecified number of people, with several others injured in the deadly incident.

In a viral video that trailed the attack, a lady, obviously, distressed, was seen mourning her dead husband and his brother, while accusing the DSS of disarming the town’s vigilantes prior to the attack, a move she claimed, gave the assailants undue firepower advantage.

However, the state government in a statement described the claim as false, saying at no time did the DSS disarm vigilantes in any part of the state.

“There is no truth to the claim that DSS withdrew weapons from the forest guards at any time. The leadership of the forest guards has disputed this claim,” Rafiu Akakaye, who is Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, said in a statement.

The statement came on a day the DSS and troops of the Nigerian Army eliminated several terrorists on the border between Kwara and Kogi States.

According to top security sources, notable among those killed was a terrorist kingpin called Maiwada and several foot soldiers of his.

Kwara State Government regretted that security agencies in the State have “expressed strong reservations about the demoralising, albeit false, claim which was made in a viral video.

“We pray to God to console the bereaved woman— and every other one — but her claim is not true,” noted the statement, quickly adding, “this clarification does not in any way delegitimise her grief.”

Continued the state government, “Politicians do not miss opportunities to wrong-foot their opponents. Average citizens who are concerned about all of us getting out of this crisis stronger and better as a community should not join such chitchat. It is not worth it.

“News media have used pictures from thousands of kilometers away to illustrate their stories…some have said we are in a state of war. It is their own way of saying it,” the state government added.

“We will get out of this stronger and safer,” assured the government, advising, “let us remain united and calm, and refuse to be at daggers-drawn with ourselves.”

Oluwo To Ooni: My War With You Just Started

0

Controversial Osun state traditional ruler, who’s also the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has drawn the battle line with Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, saying their fight will never end.

Oba Akanbi made the remark in a viral video saying he can never abandon the fight with Oba Ogunwusi because he tried to kill him,  by conniving with his ex-Canadian wife.

Akanbi said the plot was one of the many failed attempts by Oba Ogunwusi to kill him, noting that he cannot be killed by either ‘Sango’ or Ogun, the Yoruba deities because they are his forefathers, and that no father will like to kill his own child.

According to the Oluwo, his ex-Canadian wife was introduced to him by Oba Ogunwusi, who later tried to take his life by conniving with the woman, who he said had a child for him.

He said he now doubts whether the child from the Canadian woman belongs to him, as he’s considering conducting a paternity test to determine who fathered the child, alleging that Oba Ogunwusi had an extra-marital affair with his ex-wife.

Akanbi: “He (Ooni) was looking for my downfall, and the next thing, they packaged a woman for me; I don’t know her from Canada, but it was packaged for me. It was a setup. She was in my house, and they talked to her and set me up with videos and many things. She’d ask me questions inside the room, and they communicated with me.

“She was there (in my house) for over three years. She had a child, which I don’t even know if it’s my child now. I have to confirm that through DNA because they want her to kill me. She poisoned me twice. They set up an assassination attempt. They did everything so that maybe their gods would kill me, but they failed. After I found out the secret, I kicked this woman out. It was Ooni who accommodated her.”

“When I get on the throne, you see me talking about this Ooni Adeyeye and what you don’t know, I will tell you today—the governor of Osun State, the commissioners, and all. I helped Ooni Adeyeye, but because he was holding orisa, and God has put me above orisa as a king and a kingmaker that I was, he doesn’t want me to tell the story in the future.

“Ask him (Ooni of Ife) what the lady (my ex-wife) was doing with him in the hotel. I won’t mention the hotel, but when I need clarification, I will mention it. He rented a house for her and the child. People are telling me that I’m talking too much, but if it were you—if a wife was planted in your home to kill you, tried to kill you but failed—would the fight ever end?”

“That is why this fight will continue. No one can kill me, no matter their voodoo. Sango cannot kill me; he is my father, but a son must be more powerful than his father. I am a king. Sango cannot kill me. Sango is not a criminal. Ogun is not a criminal. They cannot kill me; they do not kill their children. They do not kill people. Only God determines when someone will die.

“Let him (Ooni) continue to wage war. They say the Ooni suspended me. Can one paramount ruler suspend another? Does that mean he is older than me in age or rank? If three kings were chosen in Osun, I would be number one because I am a paramount ruler. Everyone should understand there is much more behind this. In the past, when people did evil to me, I kept quiet, but in the future I will speak. There is more to come. And if it were you, would you accept it? The Ooni is now living with the same woman and doing everything together.”

Meanwhile, Oba Ogunwusi has reacted to the allegations, describing them as false. According to his spokesman, Moses Olafare, the Oluwo of Iwo knew that his claims are false, and that’s why he has chosen to sensationalize the issue, instead of reporting to the police, adding that it was not the first time Oba Akanbi had made such allegations, stressing that Oba Ogunwusi has decided to treat the allegation as the ranting of a child. .

“I hope he has reported it to the police station. If somebody alleges a threat to his life or an attempt to kill him, should he report it to the security agencies or to the media? That should give you an idea of what lies behind the so-called allegations. He is always rushing to the media to shout. When did that happen? It happened many years ago. So why is he only talking about it now? This is not the first time he has said this, anyway. But has he ever reported it to the police station? Has he ever reported it to the government?

“So if he has not done that, why run to the media to say it? That does not concern me. On the matter of infidelity, that does not concern me either. It is between him and his ex-wife; that is nobody’s problem. Whatever happened between them is private. It does not concern me. It does not concern the Ooni. He has remarried now and should have forgotten everything. And the woman, too, has remarried, wherever she is in Canada.

“He’s not the first person to experience issues in his marriage. Even the Ooni he is referring to had issues in his marriage. So, can he now come up to me and say, ‘You are the one who arranged for my wife to leave me’? You see, that is an allegation. Honestly, it is an allegation too childish to respond to,” Olafare said.

“Death Sentence On Me? Perish The Thought, No Judge By Such Name” –  Ikpeazu, Fmr. Abia Gov

0

By Ayodele Oni

A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has dismissed as false and laughable the viral social media reports alleging that he was sentenced to death by hanging for allegedly stealing ₦1 trillion during his tenure.

Ikpeazu in an interview with journalists, described the publication as a poorly fabricated story lacking any iota of truth.

A viral social media report surfaced Tuesday evening to the effect that the Abia State High Court has sentenced former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to death by hanging after investigators traced ₦1 trillion to his secret foreign account in Australia.

“The money, according to court documents, was originally earmarked for the ambitious Abia International Airport project and a light rail system that promised to change the face of the state. Instead, prosecutors revealed it was siphoned off and hidden abroad.

“Delivering the verdict, Justice Chukwuemeka Nwogu said:

“The evidence before this court is overwhelming. This was not just theft — it was the betrayal of millions of Abians who were denied progress and hope. Such crimes against humanity must carry the highest penalty.

“With ₦1 trillion, Abia could have had two airports, a modern rail line, and stable electricity. Instead, the state was left in decay. This sentence is not just punishment, but a message that no one is above the law.”

According to Ikpeazu, there is no judge in Nigeria by the name “Justice Chukwuemeka Nwogu” who was credited with delivering the alleged judgment.

He noted that the entire allocation of Abia State in his eight years as governor did not amount to ₦500 billion, let alone ₦1 trillion.

“This one is not news, it is laughable. No judge in Nigeria is called Justice Chukwuemeka Nwogu.

“The total allocation of Abia State in my eight years did not even reach ₦500 billion. So, where is the ₦1 trillion they claimed I stole coming from? When was the trial conducted?” he queried.

Ikpeazu further stressed that even if cases of fraud exist, the Nigerian judicial system does not classify financial crimes as capital offences warranting the death penalty.

“Even if it is true that there was fraud, is the punishment for fraud a capital offence? Let people be guided with the type of story they bring to the public,” he added.

The former governor urged the public to disregard the viral report, describing it as an attempt by mischief-makers to mislead Nigerians and smear his image.
