Bayelsa Governor, Seriake Dickson on Tuesday rewarded wrestlers that represented Nigeria at the just-concluded Commonwealth Games, for their creditable performance.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the governor gave the sum of N13.9 million to the athletes and the technical crew during a reception in Government House, Yenagoa.
Each of the gold medalist got the sum of N1.5 million, silver medalist got N1 million and bronze medalist N 700,000.
Wrestlers that did not win any medal also got N500, 000, while the coaching crew got N1 million.
The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali commended Dickson for his unflinching support for wrestling in Nigeria.
“His role in the battle to have wrestling back in the 2020 Olympic Games can’t, but be appreciated.
“The Bayelsa State governor has been supportive of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation,” Igali said.
The Olympian added that Dickson’s keen interest in the sport was based on the fact that he was a former wrestler, and his father was equally adept in the sport.
“He also knows the importance of wrestling to an Ijaw man.
“The governor calls himself the governor of the Niger Delta and some of the medalists coincidentally are from the Niger Delta”, he added.
Igali said, “this is a governor who travelled to Glasgow to cheer the wrestling team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
“He is our biggest supporter and we are happy for this gesture bestowed upon the wrestlers.”

The prosecution of 2019 general elections has become a migrain for the ruling All Progressives congress, APC. The government come into power on the mantra of anti corruption, but critics accuse the government of selective amnesia when the issue of corruption in the presidency is involved. This has put the presidency in a tight corner as far as raising funds to prosecute the next years election is involved.
It could have been easy to simply use the National security Adviser to subpoena the funds as has been hitherto done in former elections, or to use the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to fund the election since there may be little hope of crowd funding, but the scandal that has beset NNPC when the attempt was allegedly made resulted in an expose due to the bitter rivalry between the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru and the Minister of state for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu. The approval of a fund by the presidency without due process ignited a scandal that nearly terminated the appointment of Kachikwu.
Only recently the Federal government announced that they will use the $322.52m ‘Abacha Loot’ For Social Safety Net Program. This was a novel idea, which critics insist is a way of siphoning money for election purposes. So many recovered “loot” are presently yet to be accounted for, a situation that spells misappropriation in no uncertain terms.
Next was the approval of the $1 billion for the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency, which the senate kicked against citing due process of senatorial screening and approval. In a desperate bid, the Presidency decided to jettison the backing hitherto given to the Party Chairman, John Oyegun, on tne tenure elongation issue, particularly when it became clear that the four elder statesman-Babangida, Obasanjo, Abdulsalami and Danjuma- have pitched their tents against Buhari re-contesting the 2019 presidential elections. He opted for the timing of Tinubu Birthday to foist a “Mea Culpa” on the Lion of Bourdillon, who he hopes may repeat the feat of 2015. Tinubu, a notorious political wheeler dealer, had dumped Jonathan in the run up to the 2018 presidential election because Jonathan refused to accept his terms, which sources described as greedy. But indications were that he gave such conditions to test the level of Jonathan desperation over the presidential ticket.
Buhari coming to Lagos was alleged to be a placatory mission. He was supposed to have handed over the party structure to him, and given him a carte blanche on the presidential initiative. This resulted in Tinubu trying to wield his powers in the determination of the direction the party is to go. Oyegun has been active in rallying the APC governors around himself to fight the tenure elongation issue. It now is Tinubu vs some governors, mostly the Northern ones.
It is believed that his fixation on acquiring as much money as possible is premised on the fact that, no matter the activities of opposition, the hungry electorates will be bought at the last minute. Delegates needed to be bought during the conventions, and dissidents hounded by security agencies until they toe the line. Hence the need to raise more money for the prosecution of the elections, even though Tinubu has a deep pocket. Buhari is still not taking chances with his loyalty judging from the ignominy with which he has treated Tinubu as regards the last agreements reached before 2015.
It was this that necessitated his trip to London far earlier than the Commonwealth heads of government ,CHOGM, meetings, was scheduled. Sources close to the presidency indicate that he went earlier, neither for health issues nor for rest, but to use the opportunity to sign a deal connected with the Bonga Field and the oil blocks associated with it. The preliminary discussions had been held before COGM, and this was actually a $15 billion but the underhand deals are meant to cushion the electioneering campaign. “that is the primary reason for the travel, aside CHOGM”, the source said.
Muhammed Uba Garba, Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone A, Ikeja, tough stance on smugglers and fraudulent agents at the seaports, airport and land border stations appears to have placed him on the list of prominent uniform officers on positions of trusts for impersonation by desperate impersonators who are out to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians.
The Magazine learnt that Muhammed got to know that some people wwere impersonating him when information filtered out that he has a Face book account. The Customs Comptroller was said to have found it embarrassing. This because he has no Face book account.
The scammers may have impersonated him ostensibly to extort money from unsuspecting smugglers and fraudulent agents at the port with the intention of helping them by releasing their seized goods. The Customs Comptroller may have his reasons not to create a Face book account because it is very distracting and smugglers may use it as an opportunity to be sending threat messages to him.
Edgar Imohimi: Commissioner of Police, Giving Criminals A Fight In Lagos state
insiders told the Magazine that he has never considered it necessary to open a Face book account because he is a household name in the fight against smugglers in the country. It is not surprising why the scammers found it so easy to impersonate him because his image carries weight. os . The impersonators may have had the ulterior motive as well to turn the table against him in Customs circles and project him as someone using his exalted position to fleece people. They got it wrong.
This is because close associates, friends and relates of the Comptroller who may have received friend requests from him in the guise of being the FOU, Zone A, already knew the Comptroller does not operate a Face book account.
This may have forced him to put up a disclaimer to reassure his numerous admirers and friends that what they see in the Face book account purporting to be Muhammed Uba was the handiwork of Impersonators out to smear his name and image which took years to build.
In a Statement issued by Atta Jerry, an Assistant Superintendent of Customs and the Command Image maker, he disclosed that the Customs Comptroller ”does not have any Face book account , bearing his name or using his image”.
Appealing to the public to be on the alert and be aware that any Face book account (s) bearing Comptroller Muhammed Uba is fraudulent being operated by impersonators”, to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.
Going by the Nigeria Cyber Crime law, impersonation for fraudulent reasons , for instance , to ”’obtain money, goods or services amount to a criminal activity, and thismay have been the ulterior motive of the saidMuhammed Uba in the Face book account. The international Community are not finding it funny about these impersonators and scammers and different countries including Nigeria are coming out with stiffer penalties laws to deal with such Cyber Crimes.
This is a big challenge to Edgar Imohimi, Commissioner of Police, Lagos state police Command to save the name and image of prominent Nigerians being impersonated by fraudsters . Security analysts posits that impersonation in Face book is a regular occurrence in security cycles because of the level of poverty and unemployment in the country. The Source reporter had also fallen victims to these fraudsters twice where he lost over N150,000.00. 00 for undelivered services.
In spite of efforts by Imohimi, to state curb Criminal activities in Lagos including Cyber crime, criminal activities are still on the rise in the given security operatives a cause for concern. This is evident going by the arms and ammunitions regularly recovered from Criminals caught in the act.
Acting on a call from a Hotelier at Oshodi, on April 7, 2018, the Police Commissioner was said to have directed the Federal Anti-robbery Squad,FSARS, based in Mushin, were directed to fish out the suspects immediately. True to the Commisssioner’s directive the officer in-charge of the anti-robbery squad was to have mobilized his men into action. He confirmed that on April 8, 2018, one of the suspects in the robbery operation a 27-year old Damilola Oluwole was arrested by the team.
It was gathered that the confessions made by the suspect may have led to the arrest of two other members of the robbery gang, one Seyi Adebayo , Olasupo Jeremiah and the recovery of one locally made pistol, five live Cartridges and one expended Cartridge at their hideout at Akala, Mushi.
The police Commissioner explained that the Command has stepped up its investigation into the robbery incident, stressing that that the suspects would soon be arraigned in Court. The arrest of the Oshodi robbery suspects may have encouraged the FARS to step up its operation stop and search in different parts of Lagos.
The efforts may have paid off . On friday, April 20, 2018, one Ralph Oluwanishola, was said to have been arrested along ile-iwe road meiran during a” polite stop and search” by an anti-robbery team from meiran Division of the state police Command. The team was said to have flagged down a man carrying a bag on a motorcycle . Despite the initial resistance, the motor cyclists was said to have stopped and the man apprehended.
On interrogation, the man was said to have claimed to be a thrift collector (Esusu). The Police operatives may have been suspicious of the man when he offered them N5,000.00 bribe to let him go.
The money was said to have been turned down by the officers, forcing the man to jump down from the motorcycle and ran for his dear life but was caught by the vigilant police officers.
Eye witness, account said the man’s bag was searched and three locally made cut to sized pistols and 11 Cartridges were recovered. As it is the tradition with the Police, Imohimi, the Lagos state Commissioner of Police said the ”suspect is currently aiding the police in their investigation.
Prior to the stop and search operation of the meiran police Division, the FSARS operatives at Ladipo annex, was said to have neutralized plans by robbers to strike at Ijora Badia area of Lagos, based on a credible information . The FSARS operation was said to have yielded results as about four suspects were arrested including and the recovery of one locally made cut to sized pistol and one expended Cartridge.
On 31, March, 2018, the police Squad , led by one Inspector Yemi Ojumola, in another operation was said to have led to the arrest of two suspects: Olarewanju Ibrahi and Rasheed Adeyemi, who were said to have attacked one Adeba Olusi and Ilesanmi Babatunde and dispossessed them of their GSM Techno Cannon C8 phone and N48,000.00 including other valuable items.
The police Commissioner confirmed that the team recovered one locally made pistol, four expended Cartridges and one Bajaj motorcycle with Reg. No. DE992-Xe used during the robbery incident.
Given an insider information,, the Lagos state police Command boss revealed that the suspects on interrogation confessed that the guns used in the operation was given to them by one Archibong Kufre.
The confession, the police Commissioner confirmed led to his arrest. ”The case is still under investigation”, he said.
With the arrest of Archibong, who , the police boss said is currently helping the police in their investigation , he is optimistic that more members of the robbery gang would be nabbed soon.
The police Commissioner had said that the Command would not relent in the fight against Criminals in the state until they are completely smoked out from their hideouts and rendered ineffective.
The controversy over the purchase of jets purportedly to fight Boko Haram insurgents by the Federal government from the United states of American came to a head recently when President Buhari was forced to cut short his trip amid tension in the National Assembly over abuse of due process. Already the Senate has been under tension since the Senator Omo-Agege saga, when the Mace was taken way in broad daylight withing the senate chambers during plenary. Fingers are being pointed towards the presidency, because of the ease with which the so called thugs beat all security apparatus of the National Assembly.
Indications are that the money has been approved by the president before he traveled to the United kingdom for the conference of Commonwealth head of governments, CHOGM, instructing that it be withdrawn from the Excess Crude account, The money has been already withdrawn, according to presidential sources-though there appears to be discordant tones on whether it has finally been paid to the Pentagon. While Mansur Dan Ali, the Minister of defense, said the fund has been approved, presidential Aid Ita Enang said it has not been approved, though it appears Ita Enang had to put up the defense for the benefit of the senate. Senate President Bukola Saraki is said to have been livid over the issue. “This is an impeachable offence. Unfortunately, we have a senate that always compromises due to pecuniary interest”, a source told this Magazine from the red chambers.
It will be recalled that negotiations for the purchase of the aircraft ran into hitches when the US government insisted that the federal government must pay for the purchase before end of February 2018, but only agreed to deliver the goods in 2020, when Buhari must have been out of office. Analysts believe that they are leaving a window of escape if President Buhari wins a second term, in which case they will call for renegotiation. They have hinged their refusal to authorize immediate release of the planes on Human right reports which tends to point to misuse of military might on soft targets. Not too long ago, the Air-force bombed the Internally displaced peoples camp. Though the Military high command has described the mishap as an error, no news of court marshal or reprimand of officers involved was heard.
It was after the approval of the fund that the presidency wrote National Assembly asking for approval to pay the money, justifying their action by saying that the request came with a deadline that they had to meet, hence the approvals before sending the request to the Senate. That it presupposes that the National Assembly will rubber stamp the approval did not trouble them. The Military high command had rejected the condition given by the American government, saying it was not acceptable. Now the presidency is paying.
Analysts insisted that the presidency was doing that to lease the US government in view of the recent invitation of extended from the White House to President Buhari. Although the British Prime Minister Theresa May is sitting on the Fence on the issue of Buhari second term, She has tactically given him the condition for her support: The abrogation of the anti-Gay Law. In that he has an ally in the American President Donald Trump, who at the same time may frown at the activities of Fulani Herdsmen.
The current tension within the National Assembly due to the alleged presidential backing Senator Omo Agege may rub off on the Purchase. The presidency takes it seriously enough for Buhari to cut short his trip. That he sought to include the appropriation in the 2018 budget which the National Assembly is yet to deal with does not help matters. The Lower house, Led by Yakubu Dogara, is miffed about it, worried about the arm-twisting method of the presidency. They were forced to abandon quest for the reversal of election time table after the shocking mace scandal of the senate.
The National President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents ANLCA, Tony Iju Nwabunike has intervened in the internal crisis rocking the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Association, though the nine man BOT denies any division, insisting that such only exist in the imaginations of promoters of such divisive reports.
The magazine learned that the intervention became necessary following pressure from notable members who feared a backlash on the election which produced Nwabunike as president. The intervention is responsible for the semblance of peace “That the BOT is currently enjoying,” the source said.
Meantime, the BOT has therefore confirmed Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha as new Chairman, following the election held at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Lagos last week., bringing to end the 10 years Chief Henry Njokwu as BOT chairman.
Speaking at a Round Table meeting with the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) in Apapa Lagos at the weekend, Secretary of board, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi disclosed that the new executive members of the board are Chief Dennis Okafor, Vice Chairman and Prince Taiye Oyeniyi as Secretary. The new team, Oyeniyi said would be piloting afairs of the board for the next two years with effect from 15th April 2018.
Dispelling reports of crisis within its ranks , Oyeniyi stated that “ANCLA does not have any crisis, the incumbent President Hon. Tony Uju is at peace with every member, however some of the issues at hand are presently an internal matter that can be resolved within us”.
According to a communique , a copy of which was made available to the magazine, the board secretary also maintained that “In recognition that the present leadership under Chief Henry Njoku has done about two years terms, a motion was moved and adopted by 5 votes with names respectively Prince Taiye Oyeniyi, Chief Ernest Elochukwu , Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha, Chief Dennis Okafor and Mr. Dayo Azeez.
“While the other 3 members in abstentions where Chief Henry Njoku, Aare Sanni Shittu and Chief Peter Obih.”
The BOT Scribe also gave a brief history of how Henry Njoku had frustrated series of attempts to convene a meeting to peacefully elect a new BOT Chairman.
He argued that Njoku was not removed based on tribal sentiment but on expiration of tenue which was long overdue.
For months, there had been rumours making the rounds that Ibrahim Magu, a Deputy Commissioner of Police and acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, may be promoted to enviable rank of Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission, PSC.
The rumour became pronounced as he got the nod to appear before the Commission interview panel. There was the initial fears being expressed in several quarters that the tough Corp heading the EFFC may have a tough time scaling through the promotion hurdle because he had stepped on many powerful toes in the country including members of the hallowed Chamber, the Senate, who might want to use their position to put in one or two words against him to scuttle the promotion.
Unknown to the pundits, the Mike Okiro led PSC was an unbiased umpire in the discharge of its Constitutional responsibilities which include police recruitment , promotion, discipline and retirement of officers. ”There is nothing like wit hunting in the Commission” an officer remarked.
The officer had disclosed that matters of recruitment , promotion or applying disciplinary measures to officers found wanting were treated on their merit. There have been instance officers wrongly dismissed or downgraded have been recalled or restored back to their old rank by the Commission.
Mike Okiro: Chairman, PSC
indeed, the assurance by some of his Colleagues who had appeared before the interviewers without any hope of making it were said to have come out from the Commission office Complex smiling and feeling fulfilled because of the friendly disposition of the interviewers.\
This may have given hope to Magu, the embattled acting EFCC boss that he could make it to the next rank of Commissioner of Police, CP. He got it right. He passed the interview and was promoted.
A Statement released on Friday, April20, 2018, by Ikechukwu, Ani, the Commission Image maker confirmed that the EFFC boss, and 17 other senior officers were promoted by the Commission. Ani said the Commission approved the promotion of the officers at its meeting which was held in Abuja.
The Source learnt that as soon as information filtered out about the promotion of the EFCC boss to rank of CP, there was spontaneous jubilation in the antigraft agency. A source disclosed that friends and close associates of the acting EFCC Chairman sent words of greetings to him, with words of advice to justify the Confidence reposed on him by the Commission to earn the promotion. The Staff of the Commission were not left out as they called at his office in groups to congratulate and savour that moment of joy with him.
There are indications t in both official and unofficial quarters that Magu may lose his official position by virtue of the promotion as it has been allegedly confirmed by sources in Force Headquarters, Abuja. The sources disclosed that he had been penciled down as one of the senior Police officers going to Nigeria Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies , Kuru, Plateau state, for studies, that could take him out the agency for one year.
The Course may save the one year-old crisis of Confidence between the Senate and President Muhammadu Buhari over the continued retention of the acting EFCC boss in office despite their opposition. It would be recalled that the pioneer, EFCC , Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, was promoted to the enviable rank of Commissioner of Police and sent to NIPS, and later promoted to AIG, and retired. Nigerians are watching what is most likely going to happen to Magu after the planned one year programme in NIPS is over: Will he be promoted to the next police rank of AIG?
The implication of the Kuru Course is that another Deputy Commissioner of Police may be warming up to replace him soon at the Commission, on the recommendation of the President to the Senate for endorsement.
Ani in the Statement alsodisclosed that Ebere Onyeagoro and Moshood .O. Gbolarumi, both DCP in-charge of Aministration , Kaduna state Police Command and Maritime, Lagos respectively were also promoted to the Commissioner of Police rank by the Commission.
The two lucky Comptroller who got the Presidential nod to be elevated to the elitist rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, were Agboola Oshodi-Glover, CP, Administration, Force Headquarters and Peace Abdallah, ,Police Intelligence bureau. That much was confirmed by Ani, the PSC, Image maker.
But one officer whose promotion was greeted by wide applause was that of Abba Kyari, from the rank of a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, to an Assist Commissioner of Police, ACP. The Special promotion for Kyari and his 21-member team from the PSC had long been expected.
It was learnt that Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, had recommended to the Commission that the former CSP Kyari and the 21 officers in the who arrested the most wanted kidnap kingpin Chukwudumuje Onooamadike alias Evans, in Lagos last year be given Special promotion as a way of encouraging other officers on special police assignments to sit up.
The arrest of the notorious kidnapper, by Kyari and his team may have brought a respite to many Ibo socialites in Lagos who were afraid of travelling to the east for fear of Evans. The Evans, kidnap gang , according police sources were not only terrorizing the rich from the east but the affluent from other states, who could afford to pay the ramsome that may be demanded to regain their freedom. he had always had his way until CSP Kyari was given the assignment by the then Lagos state Commissioner of Police to capture him alive or dead. The CSP , who is used to such assignments was said to have mobilized all contacts and with credible intelligence were on his trail until he was finally caught n his palatial home in Lagos with little or no resistance from his gang.
When President Muhammadu Buhari, assumed office as an elected President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2015, he came with a bang: to stop the killings in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states in north east geo-political region as a result of the activities the Islamic Fundamentalists, Boko Haram insurgents .
President Buhari had rejig the security apparatus of the country by appointing Mohammed Babagana Mongono, a rtd Major General, from Borno, National Security Adviser, NSA,, Mamman Lawal Daura, from Daura town, buari’s home town, in Katsina state, Director General, Department of State Security, DSS, Ibrahim Idris, from Niger state, home state of former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida as the Inspector General of Police, IGP, and Tukur Buratai, another indigene of Borno state as Chief of Army Staff.
He was said to have also replaced the Heads of the Directorate of Intelligence Agency, DIA, and other Security agencies to give a bite in the fight against the security problem in the country. This is because of his earlier Campaign promises to solve the security problem which had given birth to the monster called Boko Haram, an Islamic fundamentalist group in the north east go-political region.
But unknown to him, there was a more deadly killer squad, the fulani herdsmen, from Republic of Niger and Chad who had joined their local kinsmen to traverse the nooks and crannies of the Country with sophisticated weapons in the bush in the guise of guiding their cattle without military or police intervention to disarm them. The fallout was the repeated killings of helpless unarmed farmers found on their route.
President Muhammadu Buhari
The killing became worse over the last two years in Plateau, Benue, Niger, Zamfara, in north central geo-political region, and Taraba in the north east, thus making nonsense of the Buhari tight security network, thus discouraging foreign Invests from coming to Nigeria to invest.
Bob Mustapha, a former Managing Director of Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, and now Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, took advantage of the recent Federal and states Security Administrators meeting in Katsina , the President’s home state to open upon the alleged number of lives lost due to the frequent clash between herdsmen and farmers this year alone.
He revealed that 270 people had been killed had in these volatile states in the north this year alone , which many described as far cry from the figure that had been computed by the respective state governments.
Mustapha, who was said to have been represented by Sulaiman Dahiru, a permanent Secretary in his office, confirmed that the killings was recorded in 30 incidences.
The Security Chieftains may have been encouraged to hold parley because of the directive given to them to find out a lasting solution to the problem of repeated clashes between herdsmen and farmers which resulted in the death of thousands of farmers and other innocent citizens over the years in Benue, Plateu,Adamawa, Taraba, Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna and Zamfara states.
The killings may have become worse in Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba, because of the allegations, that security operatives including the army are giveing the herdsmen the much needed support to operate in these states.
lambasted the Mustapha, the SGF, for reeling a wrong figure of deaths linked the new Killer Squad, fulani herdsmen as people are being killed weekly in Benue and Traraba states alone. The security expert disclosed that the death alone that had been linked to the herdsmen in Benue and Taraba alone between January and now are over a thousand people, nothing that many of these deaths had not been captured because of the difficulty in accessing some of these farmers Communities .
THe alluded to the remarks by Theophilus Danjuma, a rtd Lt. General and a former Chief of Army Staff who was later appointed ,Minister of Defense by former President Olusegun Obasanjo who had passed a vote of no confidence on the Army over their inability to protect lives and property in the country because of the killings by the herdsmen in Taraba, his home state. The revered retired Army General may have vent his anger on the Army because it was the same institution he had controlled and supervised for years which had won laurels for the country both locally and overseas. He believes the Army could no longer bite because they have lost the fire power thus, giving him the courage to dare Buhari and his security agencies by asking the farmers to defend themselves as the Army and the police could no longer guarantee their safety.
He averred that the retired Army General could not have spoken his mind if he did not have his facts right. The remarks by Danjuma, may have rattled President Buhari that he has continued to thinker with several options of handling the herdsmen killer squad. He had blamed late Libyan President, Mummar Quadafi, of ashaving trained and armed the herdsmen to kill, which analysts describe an escapist route to cover the government failure to deal with the situation at hand.
The wide condemnation of the herdsmen killings in different parts of the country and the failure of the government deal decisively with the situation ahead of the 2019 polls in the country appears to be giving himmuch troubles .
He has not forgotten to tell any foreign political leader he had come in contact with in the recent time including Theresa May, the British Prime Minister over his” worries about the state of Nigeria security than the 2019 election which he had shown his interest to re-contest on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC”.
The bilateral talks with the British Prime Minister, may have provided himan ample opportunity to seek the Prime Minister’s support in the areas of military training, intelligence gathering and supply of military equipment to face headlong the security challenge in the country that had been made worse by the fulani herdsmen , regarde in both official and unofficial quarters as the new killer squuad.
There is no gain saying the fact that the Boko Haram fighters may have infiltrated the ranks of the herdsmen because of the expertise in handling weapons to kill in the central states of Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Adamawa and Taraba, in order to turn their farm lands as their own grazing field by use of force .
The President who visited had Taraba state recently over the killings in the state linked to the herdsmen had said in Jalingo, the stateCapital that ”all the perpetrators of violence in the country would be investigated and prosecuted ”, but no herdsman or their sponsors had been arrested to face the full wrath of the law., an indication that it is still killing as usual.
Notwithstanding the killings by herdsmen, in different parts of the country, the President still maintains that his administration has done well in improving the security situation of the country right from the Boko Haram attacks. He said the economy may be suffering because of the fear in the mind of both local and foreign investors that security had broken down in the country. ”The country had to be secured before you can manage the economy”, he had said.
Femi Adesina, a senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, had said in a statement that Buhari is determined to turn around the Nigeria battered economy as he woo foreign investor s to advantage of the country’s improved security situation and favourable economic policies to invest in the country. Indeed, at a close door meeting with May, the British Prime Minister recently in London, Adesina had said in the statement that Buhari had called for more British Companies investment in Nigeria .
He was said to have told May to allow more British Companies to come to Nigeria, citing Unilever and Cadbury, two British firms which have stood with Nigeria through thick and thin, even when the country fought a civil war but never relocated with their technology to another country.
bu one area which the President believes the British firms could easily invest for now is Agriculture. He was said to have briefed May on the giant strides the country has made through massive investment on the sector, stressing that rice imports had been reduced by 90 percent , a ”situation, he said had” put Nigeria on the path of food self-suffiency ”, thus saving the much need foreign exchange for the country to execute his electioneering Campaigns.
But Rice Importers who may still claim to have letters of Credit, LC, allegedly issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria , CBN, may not right as they may be among the group of rice importers described as being involved recycling documents. This is because of the difficulty in differentiating a dully issued LC because of the use of general stamps in all the rice import documents.
Indeed, the government fiscal policy measures banning the importation of foreign parboiled rice into the country through the land borders may have forced many of the local rice importers to relocate to Cotonou port in Republic of Benin and other ports in the West African sub-region which still found their way into the Nigeria market through unapproved routes . The seizure of trucks load of rice in Oyo and Ogun states alone, by officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone A, and thousands of bags of rice a intercepted in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun by the Headquarters Zonal Strike force in Lagos speaks volume. This is an indication that the rice importers are still very desperate to retain their share of the Nigeria market.
Worried that foreign rice are still been smuggled into the country, the President may have givena verbal directive to Hameed Ali, a retired Colonel and Comptroller General, NCS, to do everything within his powers to stop the rice smugglers to protect the local rice farmers.
The Customs boss was said to be tinkering with the option of given the nod to Muhammed Uba Garba, Comptroller, FOU, Zone A, and his counterpart at Seme Command, Muhammed Aliyu to extend their operations Ogun, Oyo/Osun, Niger and Kwara states.
The duo may be warming up for the task ahead because of the porous nature of the border Communities between Nigeria and Republic of Benin in these states which had proved very difficult for the resident officers to effectively patrol.
Only recently, officers from the FOU, Zone A, Command intercepted three Toyota Prado jeeps bought by the Oyo state government which was driven into the Country through the idiroko land border with the Oyo state government House escort vehicle following behind to Forrestal any attempt by Customs personnel to stop them on the road to ask for Customs documents .
The business may have turned awry as the vehicles were detained on the orders of Muhammed, the Comptroller at the ikeja office of the Command. This is an indication that Nigerians and government officials are still patronizing smuggled goods including vehicles.

By Osamudiamen Ogbonmwan
PMAN has made its stand known concerning the current crisis in COSON. Why did it take you this long to make a statement?
We didnt want to get into the internal crisis of COSON because we believed that they would be able to sought things out. In December when we got the report of the problem, we made calls to both parties and fortunately I was able to speak to both parties and they told me what happened. I demanded for documentation and the only people who brought it were the Efe Omorogbe’s group. Kenneth Ehichioya and I called Chinedu, the COSON General Manager to followup with them and they said they were going to send the report. I think maybe they werent respecting PMAN, that’s why they didn’t get back to us early. However, we never took any biased decision. In February, we had a meeting with the Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, as they also provided their own report with evidences. I was urged to do a press statement that period by my Excos but I refused hoping COSON would get back to me. Efe then came back a second time to us in PMAN with a letter and full report of happenings; he further invited us to a press briefing. I attended with a couple of my Excos and I didnt make any statement there. Back in PMAN, we had an emagency meeting and concluded that we give Tony Okoroji more time to return to us. But we decided to reach a conclusion when we realised that everything changed and intimidation set in. I was at an event when a call came in that my attention was needed immediately because Okoroji had arrested Efe. I was surprised. The person said Okoroji wrote a pettision against Efe that he was threatening him etc. I put a call to Efe and he didn’t pick. I got Eddy Lawani who gave me his part of the story and then I called Ken Caleb Olumese, De Guv’nor of NiteShift who incidentally was at the station. He said he would call back but he didn’t. The next day, I was called and the person asked me if I can provide my Certificate of Occupancy to effect Efe’s bail. I was shocked. I felt no mater what we do in this industry, we cannot tolerate some person intimidating one of us. I wondered why Okoroji was taking such route. Efe never stole anything. He only complained about somethings he thought were wrong. We had an Exco meeting again after this and the only topic was the COSON crisis. As the PMAN president, I had to take a stand. We did our own internal investigation, reaserch and traveling- all based on the documents provided to us. We then found out who was at fault. Our decision was also based on the fact that it was this same mistake that happened in PMAN decades back that caused the crisis that we still are till now. We saw a picture of COSON drifting to that era and we thought that would be very bad for the industry. That was why we took a stand.
You said you reached out to Chinedu and there was no response. Did you try a step further on your official capacity as PMAN President or as a “friend” of Okoroji to reach him since Chinedu didn’t get back to you?
Yes. I called him as a personal friend and he didn’t pick my calls.
When was that?
In December, January and twice in February. After that, I said I wouldn’t do it again. I don’t know why he didnt pick.
Before this crisis, what was the relationship between PMAN and COSON?
It was cordial. When PMAN was starting its biometric program, it was in collaboration with COSON. Okoroji and I ran a lot of brainstorming. At a point, we wanted to marge the two servers. Okoroji said if we had told him about our intention to buy a new server, he would have asked us to use the one of COSON. So you can see that we had a good relationship.
The NCC has made its intention known to penalise COSON. We can see that PMAN and the NCC are in some sort of collaboration in this quest against COSON. When did you two decide to come together?
PMAN took its decision based on its independent investigation. We never collaborated with the NCC. Yes, our stand could be in line with the NCC but the NCC is actually the “owners”of the Cmos. They give licences to people to operate as cmos and they monitor and regulate their operations. You cant operate without them. Its like CBN and banks in Nigeria.
Dont you think that Okoroji’s refusal to pick your calls might be as a result of your running battle with the Minister of information?
I don’t have a personal problem with him. I have known with time that he is someone who likes taking advantage of situations and jumping into conclusion. He made mention of the issue in a press briefing but later he apologised at the City People’s event. He called me and apologised in the presence of Chinedu, Kofi, Patrick Doyle, Ruggedman and a few others. It wasnt on stage. I let go because i didnt thing it was worth holding on to.
So why do you think Okoroji is singling you out for litigation?
I have now discovered that he has bad advisers around him and incompetent people working with him. These people don’t tell him the truth. I signed a release, a pronouncement by PMAN in my capacity as the President. Now you are singling me out as an individual to sue. As Pretty okafor, I don’t have access to PMAN s letterhead, so I can’t sign without the national working committees approval. So how come are you ignoring that? And you claim to be one of those tho wrote the PMAN’s constitution? Knowing that a statement can never come out without the Excos being aware of it. The release was signed on behalf of PMAN and now he is ignoring that fact because he knows I am a physical and spiritual being. I always do things that are right in the sight of God and man. I will never do the wrong thing to affect humanity. He has noticed my kind of person while we attended meetings, that I stand and fight for what is right. His problem is that I have come into this issue and I am going to see it through.
Efe’s faction of COSON is demanding for a forensic audit of the account of COSON and you stated that you want electronic monitoring. What exactly do you people want?
Let me put it this way.. A Forensic probe because Efe and the removed directors said Okoroji stole money and he denied it. This is why they are calling for it. To see where and who is lying. If this is done and we discover that Efe has been wrong all along, we will ask him to apologise and resign from COSON and ask Okoroji to continue. However, if the fault falls on Okoroji, we will tell him not to even come to COSON again. Resign and return the money. There are lots of auditing firms in Nigeria. Okoroji has been dodging this since December. We are also saying there should be a standard biometric monitoring of the money as it is being collected and getting to the artistes. There is a standard percentage that is supposed to go to COSON. It is supposed to be 30 percent but from the report I have seen( from two years back), he is using up to 45 percent. It is wrong.
Okoroji only made a threat. What happens if he goes ahead to sue you?
( laughs). He should know that he is dealing with a warrior. I saw the letter he wrote and thought it is a defamation of my character. What he claimed on his letter is that I am fraudulent and impersonating the PMAN President – even claiming further that I stole the PMAN letterhead to write the release. Thats why I said he has a lot of praise singers around him. I have given the letter to my lawyers to take care of it. I know it has no base because if it did, he would have directed it to PMAN and not myself. You can’jt ignor the institution and single out the individual. This time , he got it wrong.
Do you think Efe has a chance to come out victorious in this crisis?
I told you we carried out our investigations carefully and based on that I can assure you that he has 300% chances of coming out victorious. They were smart. About four of the removed directors on Efe’s side are Lawyers. These dudes were very careful in their dealings as they worked with Okoroji as COSON Chairman in the past eight years. Okoroji got it wrong. If Efe was wrong, the NCC wouldnt have taken the stand they took in their first press release. I think okoroji believes he is the law and no one can tell him any better. There is an undertone of greed and selfishness. If he has lead an institution for eight years, it is spiritually and phisically right to train someone to take over from you when you know it is a public institution.
What was PMAN ‘s involvement in the formation of COSON?
It was during Dele Abiodun’s era as PMAN ‘s President that COSON was approved as a collecting society. It first got an approval letter from PMAN. PMAN had three slots on the board of COSON, then came the crisis and thereafter, Okoroji decided to cancel the slots with the excuse that PMAN has a lot of factions.
Some people believe PMAN is factionalise. What happens if the other Presidents decides to pitch their tents with okoroji?
Thats were we come with legality and documentation. PMAN is not factionalised. We just have people who are trying to take advantage of the unsuspecting public. They are trying to hide the crime they committed and don’t want the younger generation to discover. It is not possible because we have actually discovered them. These people are creating a smoke screen that PMAN is in crises which is a lie. I came into a joint agreement and court pronouncement. Then suddenly when I discovered that they stole money, these people who brought me in, came to the realisation that I was going to probe all of them. So they decided to fight the judgement. They were able to get the judgement which was then appealled. So the status quo remains until the appeal is heard. The only authentic PMAN regime is this one i am heading.
Some people are of the thought that Efe is too young, busy and does not have the capacity to run COSON like Okoroji. What do you think?
I dont agree with that. Okoroji was 28 when he became PMAN ‘s president. Many people said I was too young for the job of PMAN when I became president. I think our concern should be whether Efe has the the mental capability. If Efe could bring everybody together to form COSON, then I think he can move it to the best international practice. For eight years he wasn’t too busy to sit on the board as a director. He has been running his personal business alongside COSON. He doesn’t feed from COSON, no! Okoroji is a corporate manager. Efe, Baba Dee and Obi Asika are the brains behind COSON. These men are the strategists and implementators of decisions in COSON. Efe is a workaholic. I have seen these men run four to five shows simultaneously and meeting their deadlines. We want such people in the industry. I have been around and discovered that Okoroji has a personal selfishness and greed. That’s why he keeps having issues with a lot of people. I have understudy him and concluded we should check his mental capability. It is a concern now.
After surviving a poorly scripted ‘coup’ attempt , Senate President, Bukola Saraki is weighing options as to how best to fortify his hold on the Nigerian Senate and fend off future moves to unseat him. One of such options is to adopt carrot and stick approach in dealing with his opponents. To this end, reshuffling of the Senate Committees is in the offing.
It has been gathered that some of the Senators who plotted the failed ‘coup’ but now deeply remorseful over their action will likely be appointed Chairmen of new Committees to be created soon in addition to being named Vice chairmen and members of some lucrative Senate Committees respectively.
On the other hand, intransigent plotters who, it has been gathered have gone back to the drawing board to explore more options open to them are to lose their current positions as Chairmen and Vice Chairman of Committees. Also, the suspension Damocles hangs on them. Except they watch their utterances on the floor of the Senate, any of them whose comment is considered ridicule of, and in contempt of the upper chamber risks suspension.
Ekweremadu: His deft moves foiled plot
Senator Omo Agege, allegedly linked to the invasion is currently under suspension for making comments considered damaging to the Senate during the election re-ordering debate. The Delta state Senator has since denied leading the Mace snatchers to Senate but baffling was why the invaders walked directly behind him as he strolled into the Chamber despite being under suspension.
Saraki, The source, was informed, is determined to serve out his term, together with Ekweremadu , as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively before deciding whether to still remain in the APC or not.
Though ‘thugs’ have been blamed for the invasion of the Senate and stealing of its symbol of authority, the Mace last Wednesday, multiple National Assembly sources say it was actually a unsuccessful attempt to oust Saraki and Ekweremadu in the most grotesque manner. A successful execution of the plot would have resulted in the sealing up of the Senate by security agents.
Ike Ekweremadu was presiding when the invaders came calling as Saraki was out of the country on an official duty. Both men- considered in the presidency and by a faction of the APC as the main Senate arrowheads of opposition to the APC –led federal government- were the targets of the failed putsch. Though Senators behind the move are less than 30, tacit backing from a segment of the APC sympathetic to President Muhammadu Buhari and wants him re-elected and handful of key members of his kitchen cabinet aggressively pursuing the re-election bid would have resulted in two of the plotters “elected” as President of the Senate and Deputy President of the Senate respectively, had Ekweremadu adjourned plenary immediately after the invaders carted away the Mace.
The anti-Saraki/Ekweremadu elements in the Senate did not factor in the Deputy Senate President’s resolve to continue with plenary after the Mace theft and prompt provision of another Mace “even if it means staying here in the (Senate) till 6pm”. Sources swear the plotters had expected that the Senate to dissolve into disarray and hurriedly adjourned after the invasion and subsequent stealing of the mace.
According to sources, had this happened, the pro impeachment Senators would have, under heavy security escort, stormed the Senate, reconvene and pronounce Saraki and Ekweremadu impeached. Because of their number, the ‘impeachment’ would have become a subject of high voltage litigations. However, the ‘new Senate Leadership” would have enjoyed tacit executive recognition complete with full paraphernalia of office. The plan was to keep Saraki and Ekweremadu busy in the courts for the remaining part of their tenure fighting for restoration to office while Senators loyal to them are gradually blackmailed into accepting the illegality of their (Saraki and Ekweremadu) ouster as a fait acommpli.
Vice President Osinbajo: Briefed by Ekweremadu
With Ekweremadu sitting tight and seeing the plenary through to its conclusion, the entire plan not only collapsed but became impracticable. Matters further became complicated for the plotters when Ekweremadu issued a statement describing the invasion as an “attempted coup against an arm of government in Nigeria” and then dashed to the presidential Villa to brief the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo of the situation, in the absence of President Buhari who was in London for the Commonwealth meeting.
Shortly after Ekweremadu’s deft moves punctured the “coup attempt”, deluge of “condemnations” of the invasion, from the National Leadership of the APC and the presidency saturated the traditional and social media.
