Update: Abba Kyari In Lagos, Speaks From Isolation; Says He Made His Own Arrangements

0
Abba Kyari

By Gideon Njoku

Speculate no more. From the horse’s mouth comes these confirmations.

Abba Kyari, the powerful Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari,  finally hit the nail on the head. He is positive for Coronavirus.

He is in Abuja, Nigeria, and has not been flown out of the country as was being speculated. And, as you read this, the 80 year old Kyari is now in Lagos. What is not.known, however, is how he was evacuated to Lagos from Abuja on Sunday, considering that domestic  flights had  been suspended, and all airports, closed.

In a statement he personally signed, dated March 29, he said he was moving to Lagos to continue with his treatment on the advice of his doctors.

He, also, made it clear that he made his own private arrangements for his treatment, so as not to over-burden government facilities. Meaning that he is in a private facility.

He said he would be back at his desk, soon,  to continue his service to the President and Nigeria. Acknowledging that he has young professionals working with him, Kyari paid tribute to Healthcare personnel, and assured Nigerians that they were in good hands with President Buhari.

Following,  excerpts from his statement.

“I am writing to let you know that on medical advice, I will transfer to Lagos today for additional tests and observation. This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week, I tested positive for Coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all the protocols the government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.

“I have made my own care arrangements to avoid further burdening the public health system which faces so much pressures. Like many others that will,  also, test positive, I have not experienced high fever, or other symptoms associated with this new virus, and have been working from home. I hope to be back at my desk very soon.

“I have a team of young, professional, knowledgeable, and patriotic colleagues whose dedication has been beyond the call of duty, who continue to work seven days a week, with no time of the day spared. We will continue to serve the President and people of Nigeria as we have done for the past five years.

” I want to thank all our fantastic healthcare professionals working across the country in such a difficult time; all the good Samaritans looking out for the most vulnerable in our communities; the key workers that will keep our country going through all this.

“President Buhari will do whatever it takes to protect  the health and safety of our people, and get the country back on its feet as soon as possible.

“Like the whole world, we are dealing with a new disease. Our experts are learning more all the time about Coronavirus, what it does, and how we can combat it. What we do know is that while some can become very sick, many others who may contract the Virus, will not, and may have no symptoms, at all”.

Kyari has been criticised for not self-isolating on his return from German, a country of burden, but instead, attended meetings in the villa, and also, led a Federal Government delegation to Lokoja to condole with the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, who lost his mother.

Not a few people hold him responsible for the panic in the Villa over the Virus. It is being speculated that four of his aides have, also, tested positive for Coronavirus.

It is instructive that Kyari made his status and whereabouts public, the very day President Buhari  chose to address the Nation since the outbreak of the pandemic  COVID-19.

COVID 19: Kyari Plots Aso Rock Return, Says I’m Well

By Fola James

Abba Kyari, chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari had remained incommunicado since testing positive to the deadly corona virus early last week.

But those that think Kyari would be kept away from the presidential villa, should quickly perish the thought.

The powerful presidential aide has now broken his silence, though from an undiclosed location, that he’s recovering fast and preparing to return to Aso Rock to continue his work.

There  were innitial suggestions that he may have been flown out of the country to receive treatment.

Others have claimed claimed he was been treated in Lagos.

But for the first time Kyari has publicly disclosed his status as corona virus positive.

He was believed to have contracted the virus during his recent trip to Eurpope.

In a letter he wrote the public, Kyari said he tested positive last week and was proceeding to Lagos on Sunday for further tests based on medical advice.

He said he’s not showing serious symptoms contrary to suggestions in some quarters.

Kyari said he would soon resume work.

He wrote in the letter thus“I am writing to let you know that on medical advice, I will transfer to Lagos later today for additional tests and observation. This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week, I tested positive for coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all the protocols the government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.”

He said he took care of his medical bill.

“I have made my own care arrangements to avoid further burdening the public health system, which faces so many pressures. Like many others that will test also positive, I have not experienced high fever or other symptoms associated with this new virus and have been working from home. I hope to be back at my desk very soon,.” Kyari said.

Breaking: Israel Evacuates Citizens From Nigeria

Evacuation of Israeli from Nigeria

By Gideon Njoku

The Israeli Government has evacuated its citizens from Nigeria.

They left Nigeria, Sunday, on a private chartered aircraft, through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. At least, a pet dog  was, also, seen being evacuated.

Israelis outside Abuja assembled at the Murtalla  Mohammed Airport, Lagos, from where they were airlifted to Abuja to join their compatriots.

Over 250 of them were on the flight which will fly them straight – non-stop – to Israel.

It is not clear, yet, what prompted the sudden evacuation of its citizens,   including Embassy staff of Israeli citizenship, considering that as at when they were evacuated, Nigeria had only 97 confirmed cases, and only one death – a 67- year old who was undergoing chemotherapy, and had only arrived Nigeria from London –  but an Israeli embassy source said it was to protect their citizens from COVID-19, which is ravaging the world. The source promised they would be back as soon as the Virus is subdued.

It is not known, yet, if Israel has also evacuated its citizens from other African countries, and all other burdened countries with worse situations.

Coronavirus: Oyedepo Introduces Online Form Of Paying Offerings To Worshippers

0

By Akinwale Kasali

The Coronavirus Pandemic outbreak is having a toll on the economy of the world, with religious institutions across the world not spared, Nigeria inclusive.

In a bid to continually get Worshippers pay their Offerings, tithes and other seeds in the vineyard of God, the Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, owned by Bishop David Oyedepo has introduced another online banking mode of payment of offerings and tithes to it’s worshippers.

The Parishioners just need to dial *389*30*1# on their mobile phones with the following instructions popping up.

The Home Screen pops up

Welcome To Living Faith Church, with the following itemised options:

  1. Offerings
  2. Tithes
  3. Thanksgiving
  4. Shiloh Offering
  5. Transportation Seed
  6. Others
  7. Manage Account.

Then you are required to choose one of the options and send.

After this, you are required to choose your bank and put in your account number, the amount you want to send and you pin.

This online process was activated yesterday following the announcement that religious institutions will still be under lock till further notice.

It would be recalled that the general overseer of Kingsway International Church, KICC, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo had announced that its Church members should pay their Offerings and tithes through online banking which was criticised by Nigerians on Social Media.

There will be mixed reaction that will trail this development in the coming days.

Buhari Orders Transfer Of Money To The Most Vulnerable; Orders No Movements In Lagos And Abuja

0
Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the transfer of money to the most vulnerable in the society for the next two months. He also ordered that the feeding of children in schools be continued even though they are on forced holidays because of the Coronavirus.

In his first broadcast to the Nation, Sunday evening, since the outbreak of the Virus, the President also ordered that every movement within Lagos and Abuja be stopped for the next two weeks, but assured Nigerians: We are battle ready for Coronavirus

Following, the full text of the President’s address to the Nation on COVID-19.

“From the first signs that Coronavirus, or COVID-19 was turning into an epidemic and was officially declared a world-wide emergency, the Federal Government started planning preventive, containment and curative measures in the event the disease hits Nigeria.

“The whole instruments of government are now mobilized to confront what has now become both a health emergency and an economic crisis.

“Nigeria, unfortunately, confirmed its first case on 27th February 2020. Since then, we have seen the number of confirmed cases rise slowly.

“By the morning of March 29th, 2020, the total confirmed cases within Nigeria had risen to ninety-seven.

“Regrettably, we also had our first fatality, a former employee of PPMC, who died on 23rd March 2020. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this very difficult time. We also pray for quick recovery for those infected and undergoing treatment.

“As of today, COVID-19 has no cure. Scientists around the world are working very hard to develop a vaccine.

“We are in touch with these institutions as they work towards a solution that will be certified by international and local medical authorities within the shortest possible time.

“For now, the best and most efficient way to avoid getting infected is through regular hygienic and sanitary practices as well as social distancing.

*As individuals, we remain the greatest weapon to fight this pandemic. By washing our handsa regularly with clean water and soap, disinfecting frequently used surfaces and areas, coughing into a tissue or elbow and strictly adhering to infection prevention control measures in health facilities, we can contain this virus.

“Since the outbreak was reported in China, our Government has been monitoring the situation closely and studying the various responses adopted by other countries.

“Indeed, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was one of ten global health leaders invited by the World Health Organisation to visit China and understudy their response approach. I am personally very proud of Dr Ihekweazu for doing this on behalf of all Nigerians.

“Since his return, the NCDC has been implementing numerous strategies and programs in Nigeria to ensure that the adverse impact of this virus on our country is minimized. We ask all Nigerians to support the work the Federal Ministry of Health and NCDC are doing, led by the Presidential Task Force.

“Although we have adopted strategies used globally, our implementation programs have been tailored to reflect our local realities.

“In Nigeria, we are taking a two step approach.

“First, to protect the lives of our fellow Nigerians and residents living here and second, to preserve the livelihoods of workers and business owners to ensure their families get through this very difficult time in dignity and with hope and peace of mind.

“To date, we have introduced healthcare measures, border security, fiscal and monetary policies in our response. We shall continue to do so as the situation unfolds.

“Some of these measures will surely cause major inconveniences to many citizens. But these are sacrifices we should all be willing and ready to make for the greater good of our country.

“In Nigeria’s fight against COVID-19, there is no such thing as an overreaction or an under reaction. It is all about the right reaction by the right agencies and trained experts.

“Accordingly, as a Government, we will continue to rely on guidance of our medical professionals and experts at the Ministry of Health, NCDC and other relevant agencies through this difficult time.

“I, therefore, urge all citizens to adhere to their guidelines as they are released from time to time.

“As we are all aware, Lagos and Abuja have the majority of confirmed cases in Nigeria. Our focus therefore remains to urgently and drastically contain these cases, and to support other states and regions in the best way we can.

“This is why we provided an initial intervention of fifteen billion Naira (N15b) to support the national response as we fight to contain and control the spread.

“We also created a Presidential Task Force (PTF) to develop a workable National Response Strategy that is being reviewed on a daily basis as the requirements change. This strategy takes international best practices but adopts them to suit our unique local circumstances.

“Our goal is to ensure all States have the right support and manpower to respond immediately.

“So far, in Lagos and Abuja, we have recruited hundreds of ad-hoc staff to man our call centers and support our tracing and testing efforts.

“I also requested, through the Nigeria Governors Forum, for all State Governments to nominate Doctors and Nurses who will be trained by the NCDC and Lagos State Government on tactical and operational response to the virus in case it spreads to other states.

“This training will also include medical representatives from our armed forces, paramilitary and security and intelligence agencies.

“As a nation, our response must be guided, systematic and professional. There is a need for consistency across the nation. All inconsistencies in policy guidelines between Federal and State agencies will be eliminated.

“As I mentioned earlier, as at this morning we had ninety-seven confirmed cases. Majority of these are in Lagos and Abuja. All the confirmed cases are getting the necessary medical care.

“Our agencies are currently working hard to identify cases and people these patients have been in contact with.

“The few confirmed cases outside Lagos and Abuja are linked to persons who have travelled from these centres.

“We are therefore working to ensure such inter state and intercity movements are restricted to prevent further spread.

“Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States.

“All citizens in these areas are to stay in their homes. Travel to or from other states should be postponed. All businesses and offices within these locations should be fully closed during this period.

“The Governors of Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Minister of the FCT have been notified. Furthermore, heads of security and intelligence agencies have also been briefed.

“We will use this containment period to identify, trace and isolate all individuals that have come into contact with confirmed cases. We will ensure the treatment of confirmed cases while restricting further spread to other States.

“This order does not apply to hospitals and all related medical establishments as well as organizations in health care related manufacturing and distribution.

“Furthermore, commercial establishments  such as;

  1. food processing, distribution and retail companies;
  2. petroleum distribution and retail entities,
  3. power generation, transmission and distribution companies; and
  4. private security companies are also exempted.

“Although these establishments are exempted, access will be restricted and monitored.

“Workers in telecommunication companies, broadcasters, print and electronic media staff who can prove they are unable to work from home are also exempted.

“All seaports in Lagos shall remain operational in accordance with the guidelines I issued earlier. Vehicles and drivers conveying essential cargoes from these Ports to other parts of the country will be screened thoroughly before departure by the Ports Health Authority.

“Furthermore, all vehicles conveying food and other essential humanitarian items into these locations from other parts of the country will also be screened thoroughly before they are allowed to enter these restricted areas.

“Accordingly, the Hon. Minister of Health is hereby directed to redeploy all Port Health Authority employees previously stationed in the Lagos and Abuja Airports to key roads that serve as entry and exit points to these restricted zones.

“Movements of all passenger aircraft, both commercial and private jets, are hereby suspended. Special permits will be issued on a needs basis.

“We are fully aware that such measures will cause much hardship and inconvenience to many citizens. But this is a matter of life and death, if we look at the dreadful daily toll of deaths in Italy, France and Spain.

“However, we must all see this as our national and patriotic duty to control and contain the spread of this virus. I will therefore ask all of us affected by this order to put aside our personal comfort to safeguard ourselves and fellow human beings. This common enemy can only be controlled if we all come together and obey scientific and medical advice.

“As we remain ready to enforce these measures, we should see this as our individual contribution in the war against COVID-19. Many other countries have taken far stricter measures in a bid to control the spread of the virus with positive results.

“For residents of satellite and commuter towns and communities around Lagos and Abuja whose livelihoods will surely be affected by some of these restrictive measures, we shall deploy relief materials to ease their pains in the coming weeks.

“Furthermore, although schools are closed, I have instructed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to work with State Governments in developing a strategy on how to sustain the school feeding program during this period without compromising our social distancing policies. The Minister will be contacting the affected States and agree on detailed next steps.

“Furthermore, I have directed that a three month repayment moratorium for all TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni loans be implemented with immediate effect.

“I have also directed that a similar moratorium be given to all Federal Government funded loans issued by the Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture and the Nigeria Export Import Bank.

“For on-lending facilities using capital from international and multilateral development partners, I have directed our development financial institutions to engage these development partners and negotiate concessions to ease the pains of the borrowers.

“For the most vulnerable in our society, I have directed that the conditional cash transfers for the next two months be paid immediately. Our Internally displaced persons will also receive two months of food rations in the coming weeks.

“We also call on all Nigerians to take personal responsibility to support those who are vulnerable within their communities, helping them with whatever they may need.

“As we all pray for the best possible outcome, we shall continue planning for all eventualities.

“This is why I directed that all Federal Government Stadia, Pilgrims camps and other facilities be converted to isolation centers and makeshift hospitals.

“My fellow Nigerians, as a Government, we will avail all necessary resources to support the response and recovery. We remain committed to do whatever it takes to confront COVID-19 in our country.

“We are very grateful to see the emerging support of the private sector and individuals to the response as well as our development partners.

“At this point, I will ask that all contributions and donations be coordinated and centralized to ensure efficient and impactful spending. The Presidential Task Force remains the central coordinating body on the COVID-19 response.

“I want to assure you all that Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies with a role to play in the outbreak response are working hard to bring this virus under control.

“Every nation in the world is challenged at this time. But we have seen countries where citizens have come together to reduce the spread of the virus.

“I will therefore implore you again to strictly comply with the guidelines issued and also do your bit to support Government and the most vulnerable in your communities.

“I will take this opportunity to thank all our public health workforce, health care workers, port health authorities and other essential staff on the frontlines of the response for their dedication and commitment. You are true heroes.

“I thank you all for listening. May God continue to bless and protect us all.”

Breaking: Finally, President Buhari Succumbs, To Broadcast To The Nation Today, Sunday

0
President Buhari

By Gideon Njoku

Nigerians have asked why. They have cried. They have criticized. They have put pressure.

They have wondered why their President, Muhammadu Buhari, would not address the nation, talk to his subjects, in the face of an emergency, and obvious national crisis – the pandemic Coronavirus.

Afterall, he should be their Chief Consoller, and Inspiration, in times like this.

But their cries made no impact. The President refused to address them, preferring to leave that in the hands of his aides.

The result: Confusion set-in. It was like the Biblical “To thy tents O Isreal!”

In the absence of a presidential address, state governors took over, and even, closed inter-state borders, definitely, what ought to have been a Federal decision.

But, the President was missing in action. His silence also fuelled serious speculations about his state of health, especially, after his very close ally, and Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, contracted the COVID-19 disease.

Speculations were that the President had taken ill, and has been flown abroad; that he was on a ventilator.

That forced the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, to issue a denial.

But each time Nigerians watch other leaders, in other country, take charge of the war in Coronavirus, they shake their heads, and resign themselves to fate.

Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, in his defence of his Principal, said it was the President’s style.

When he gives you a job, Adesina said, he does not interfere. “He leaves you to do it”.

But finally, Nigerians have prevailed. And so, better late than never, President Buhari will today, Sunday, address the nation on the disrespectful monster, called Coronavirus.

The cheering news, came from Adesina, in the following terse statement, entitled:

President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 7pm.

“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), respectively, for the broadcast”, Adesina signed off.

Breaking: Babandede, CG, Immigration, COVID-19 Positive, Asks Officers To Pray For Him; UCH CMD Too

By Charles Igbo

The Coronavirus disease is, gradually, but successfully taking its toll on the leadership of Nigeria.

On Sunday, March 29, more high profile Nigerians fell victim to the disease, upping the national count to 91.

Those who made their positive status to the disease public on Sunday, March 29, are  the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Services, NIS, Muhammed Babandede, and the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Professor Jesse Otegbayo. Three other high profile UCH community members, including, the Chairman of the Board, also tested positive.

Announcing his status, Babandede revealed that he had followed protocol, and self-isolated as soon as he returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, on Sunday, March 22.  He had his samples taken for testing, but exactly a week later, the result came out positive.

He has asked his officers and Nigerians to pray for him for full recovery.

Babandede: “Today, I tested positive to COVID-19.

I have been on self-isolation since my return from UK on Sunday, the 22nd, of this month, with the British Airways, in Lagos.

“I urge all my loved ones, Immigration officers, and Nigerians to pray for me and all those affected.”

And, announcing his own positive status to the disease, also, in a statement on Sunday, the  CMD, UCH,  Professor Otegbayo, was at pains to explain how he contracted it. He did not disclose his travel profile, but revealed that 12 of them had attended a Board meeting at the UCH, and observed the social distancing.

Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo
Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo

During the third day of the meeting which ought to have lasted for five days, one of them developed symptoms of the disease They called the meeting of, while the member had his sample tested.

The result came out positive, forcing other members to, also, opt for a test.  Surprisingly, four of them tested positive to COVID-19.

His words:

“On Monday 23rd March, we commenced a 12-man quarterly board meeting which was meant to last five days in the hospital. We observed social distancing and other precautionary measures for COVID-19 as much as possible.

“However, on Wednesday morning, one of us presented with what appeared to be symptoms of COVID-19. His samples were immediately taken for test, and the meeting called off.

“His results returned positive on Friday morning, and every participant (including me) immediately went into self isolation, while our samples were also taken for test.

“Unfortunately, my result returned positive on Saturday afternoon and I remain in isolation as I am not symptomatic.

“All staff who have been in contact with me, and other participants during this period have been advised to immediately proceed on self-isolation pending the time they get tested.

“COVID-19 is spreading faster than we think, and I enjoin everyone to take precautions. If one person has it, then a gathering of two becomes dangerous. Stay at home, avoid unnecessary outing, and stay safe.”

Other members of the Board who tested positive are; the Board Chairman, the provost of the College of Medicine, and the Deputy Provost.

Other prominent Nigerian who have tested positive to the Virus include, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, Governors of Bauchi and Kaduna States, Bala Mohammed and Nasir El-Rufai, respectively, and Mohammed Atiku, son of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Nigeria has had one death –  67-year old Suleiman Achimivu, former PPMC M.D. Three persons, including the index case, an Italian, have recovered. And, according to reports, six more people have recovered and would be discharged soon.

The problem, however, has been tracking all those who have had contacts with the victims of the disease,  especially those who were on the same flights, and flew into Nigeria from countries which are already burdened. They have since made contacts with hundreds of others.

The late attacker has been impressive for the club’s youth team after joining them in the 2013/14 season.

Although the cause of his death is said to be the Coronavirus Pandemic, which he contacted few weeks ago,and the youngster’s impressive records at the club will not be forgotten in a hurry.

COVID-19: Where Were The Clerics, Prophets, Seers?

0
Comfort Obi
Comfort Obi

By Comfort Obi

In the face of the outbreak of Coronavirus, a respecter of nobody, there is a group of Nigerians who should bury their heads in shame. They should shut-up forever.

This virus has exposed them for what they truly are – Fake. Exploiters. Blackmailers. Opportunists. And worse, those who feast on the vulnerable and fickle-minded.

Some discerning minds always knew them for what they are. But, they flaunt God’s name. They flaunt religion. And religion is like opium. It can make the most wise the most stupid. And poverty and the desire for miracles have made Nigerians so vulnerable that it is easy for majority to be brainwashed. They hang on anything that smells redemption and quick money.

You know them. They dot everywhere. They are called Pastors, Clerics, Seers. Prophets. They go by so many names. Flaunting God’s name, they twist us round and round their little and big fingers. They hear from God every second. And performing miracles comes easier to them than it did to Jesus Christ.

At the beginning of every new year, they fill the newspapers and airwaves with their yearly predictions. They make front page stories. They predict the wind and the sun and the stars.

Some publish such predictions in book forms – The book of Predictions.

They mesmerize and dazzle the people. With every copy sold, they make more money.

They predict what would happen from January to December of each year. From politics, to economy, to every aspect of our lives. Some of their predictions make not a few people nervous.

But take time and check their yearly menu out.  And, you notice that they are, almost, a repetition of the predictions of the previous year. Pause, and think for a second, and you would confirm that the predictions are either elementary, or morbid, or guess work.

They usually run like this:

“There will be heavy rainfall this year. There will be earthquake. There will be plane crashes. Pray against them. There will be heavy flooding. There will be strong winds. There will be storms. There will be many fire outbreaks. Some top politicians need to pray against sudden death. Some serving and former Governors need to pray for their lives. A former President needs prayers against death. A couple of high profile traditional rulers in Nigeria need to pray against sudden death. There will be famine in the land”.

They predict doom in the land. If they want to be merciful, they grudgingly predict light at the end of the tunnel. But the tunnel seems so long that for years that the light has refused to show. One has lost count of the number of times they predicted the end of Boko Haram; the end of terrorism in Nigeria. It never comes. Instead, it gets worse.

They stay in Nigeria, and see what will happen in other countries, other continents, even as far flung as the Artic and Antarctica. They tell you who will win elections in other countries. When they fail, as they often do, they try to rationalise it. They confuse one by insisting one is ignorant of such interpretations, and is not on the same spiritual realm with them.

They confuse and deceive people by claiming all kinds of powers –  powers to perform all kinds of miracles, to cure all kinds of illnesses, to fix every problem, including powers to fix husbands for single women.

In Abuja, one Pastor (Dr.) J.S. Yusuf of the Touch For Recovery Outreach International has since upgraded from white handkerchiefs and holy water to annointed  underwears. He embossed his photograph on female bras and pants, and sells them to his female parishioners. Once any of them wears them, he told them,  husbands come running to them.

But now, as they say, the wind has blown, and the fowl’s behind has been exposed.

Our Pastors, Clerics Seers and Prophets have failed where, and when it mattered most.

In all their prophecies and predictions, none of them saw the outbreak of Coronavirus, the monster which has shut down their worship places, put a stop to the money they make every worship day,  kept us indoors,  shot down our lives, and brought the world to its knees. Nobody has been spared – the rich in particular.

The mega-monster, took them by surprise. And since then, they have been trying to have a hang on it. They have been going through their fake books of predictions with a brush, to see if there is even a line they could cling to, and flaunt at us, and then say: I told you people.

This other day, one Cleric told us  that God spoke to him about a public holiday that would be forced on the world, but that he was scared of making what God told him public. What’s scary about that.

For the records, most of these people see nothing. They hear nothing from God. What they do is guess work. If it comes to pass, they claim it. If it fails, they explain it away.

So they see and predict? And none of them even saw the dethronement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, now seen as a little distraction, when compared to CoronavIrus?

Is there any year there will not be fire outbreaks? Is there any year an important politician will not die? Is there any year one big man or the other will not die? Is there any year  there will not be earthquakes ? Or any year there will not be heavy rains and flooding in some parts of the world? Is there any year  there will not be, at least, two plane crashes? Or storms?

Atimes, they even mention the names of individuals who, they claim, need prayers. My surprise is that such people do not confront, or sue them for everything they have. On the contrary, they patronize them, run to them and ask them to pray against such fake, devilish predictions.

What irks in the instant case of Coronavirus is that they now want to cash-in on the tragic situation. They want to make money from it. They want to deceive people and dismiss the virus as nothing. They dismiss it as a punishment from God for our sins. They have calculated the revenue they would lose over the Government’s order on the number of people that would congregate at once. And they are doing everything to thwart it.

Penultimate week, many of such Churches disobeyed the Government’s order. They managed to convince their Parishioners to be at their worship places. As usual, they told them their victory over Coronavirus lies there. Not in the precautions medical personnel and the government are asking them to take. Once you are in the Church, you are safe. Holy water and anointing oil, and anointed handkerchiefs, and screaming in the name of prayers, would do the miracle. They don’t need any social distancing.

The first Sunday after the order was given, Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel, held a full service at his Chuch headquarters. There was no social distancing. He was not the only one guilty of breaking the order. The scandal-prone front man at COZA was guilty of the same offence.

When called in by the Police, Oyedepo said he needed to sensitize his congregation. Smart.

Last Friday in Kano, the Jumat Service at the Central Mosque, was brimming with faithfuls, without a care in the world. Where were Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the State Commissioner of Police?

Till date, not a word from any of them.

In President Muhammadu Buhari’s Katsina state, at least, one person died last Friday when Policemen tried to disperse worshippers in a Mosque. They pounced on the Policemen for daring to call the Imam to order.

Even those one expected to appreciate the seriousness of the situation, seem not to understand.

The cerebral Archbishop Anthony Obinna of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, insists his parishioners must carry-on as usual. They must continue to shake hands and/or hug during the exchange of Peace sign. And they must continue to open their mouths to receive the bread, which represents the body of Christ, instead of it being placed on their hands. They did the same during the Ebola outbreak in 2015, and survived, he explained.

But His Grace should be told that Ebola pales in the face of this Virus. This Virus has killed hundreds of thousands within three months.

I attended a funeral mass at a Church in Archbishop’s Obinna’s Diocese, and it was business as usual. Shocked, a parishioner has just written a letter to the Archbishop, reminding him of the dangers of his stand on these serious issues.

The henchman at the Synagogue of All Nations, who neither predicted the collapse of a hostel in his Church premises , which killed over one 100 people, most of them, foreigners, nor the outbreak of Coronavirus,  predicted the death of the Virus on March 27. As I write this, March 27 has since past, and the disease is waxing stronger than ever.

Many others have, since this outbreak, predicted one thing or the other. But they amount to the same thing – a deceit of the people.

These Clerics carry religion too far. Even the Holy Bible condemns the disobedience of lawful orders given by constituted authorities. And they forget that the saying that: God helps those who help themselves, holds true.  By their attitude, they tempt God.

In all this, the government is to blame. It failed the people woefully on Coronavirus.  Precautions to safeguard the people were not taken as early as they should have been taken.

Otherwise, some of these Clerics who mislead the people, especially, on the issue of Coronavirus, ought to have been taught some lessons.

In more serious countries, that’s what they do. South Africa. South Korea.

They don’t tolerate the nonsense we tolerate here in the name of religion.

But back to the topic of discussion. No time is more ripe than now for the government to ban a couple of things as it relates to religion.

Chiefs among them: Yearly predictions and the brazen flaunting of fake miracles on television, sms other public places. We have had enough.

Report claiming world leaders were jolted by the news that the Head of The British Monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II, has tested positive for Coronavirus was false.

The Queen had interacted with her son, the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles,  and the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Both had been earlier confirmed positive.

In Britain, the Prime Minister, Health minister and the Chief Medical officer are already in self Isolation.

The Source Magazine has discovered that a statement purportedly released from Buckingham Palace, confirming the issue is untrue.

The false statements read “HMQ has also tested positive and is currently self-isolating at Windsor Castle. The Queen came into contact with the PM on the 11th March and is following all the appropriate advice with regards to her welfare.”

“We will be sharing constant updates of the Queen’s welfare with the public in good fate. That will be all for now.”

We can confirm that the Queen was never among world leaders that contracted the COVID-19 as claimed.

The German Chancellor never contracted the virus as claimed.

Work at Buckingham Palace continues as Prince Charles works from his home in his Scottish residence, Birkhall.

Currently, his condition is said to be mild. The Queen continues to stay at Windsor Castle with her husband, Prince Philip.

She has already left Buckingham Palace long ago when a Palace staff contracted the virus.

The number of people infected has crossed the half a million mark globally, with over 30,000 deaths incidents.
