Kwankwaso To Trump: Your Threat Could Further Polarise Nigeria

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

By Adesina Soyooye

A former Minister for Defence, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso has weighed in on the threat by President Donald Trump of the United States of America to militarily intervene in what he says is a genocide on Christians in Nigeria.

President Trump had on Friday, October 31, declared Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over the alleged genocide on Christians. He followed that up on Saturday by, strongly, warning the Nigerian Government to immediately stop the killings of Christians or that the US would intervene to clear the terrorists killing Christians.

The Nigerian Government in three responses, one of them personally signed by President Bola Tinubu, has denied any such genocide targeted at Christians, and explained that the insecurity in Nigeria has nothing to do with Religion and that adherents of both Religions – Christians and Muslims – as well as others, are targets of blood-thirsty terrorists.

Kwankwaso, a two-term Governor of Kano State, 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, and leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, expressed concern over Trump’s  comments about Nigeria.

In a post on his Facebook page Sunday, he wrote:

“I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump. This follows his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern.

“Nigeria is a sovereign nation facing security challenges caused by outlaws, not by religion or ethnicity.

“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.

“I urge the United States to support Nigeria with modern technology to fight insecurity instead of issuing threats.

“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country.”

Kwankwaso also called on  the Federal government to engage, diplomatically with the US.

Recall that since 2023 when President Tinubu recalled Nigeria’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners from around the World, he has not replaced them.

In this regard, Kwankwaso advised that: “The Nigerian government should also consider appointing special envoys from its distinguished diplomats to engage the American government. Additionally, it is necessary to appoint permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the international stage.”

And a word to Nigerians:  to “To my fellow countrymen, this is an important moment where we should emphasise unity of belonging over division. God bless Nigeria.”

OPINION: Thinking About Trump and Nigeria

As I was returning from Mass this morning, I found myself reflecting on the recent pronouncement by the President of the United States concerning Nigeria. My only quarrel with his comment is the simplification that daily deaths in Nigeria are merely “Christians being killed.” What we witness in Nigeria is far more complex. In the process of attacking Christian communities, perpetrators,  through collateral damage,  kill many others. The truth is that Nigeria has become a vast killing field.

Ordinarily, when the president of one sovereign nation threatens military action against another, citizens of the threatened nation rise instinctively in patriotic defence of their sovereignty. In normal circumstances, I too would have stood firmly against the United States and stirred Nigerians with stories of noble resistance – recalling Leonidas at Thermopylae, where men chose annihilation over surrender, believing that honour and homeland were treasures worth the ultimate sacrifice.

President Donald Trump

However, in our case, almost everyone, quietly, including many within government,  would rather whisper a prayer that such intervention should indeed come. It is a tragic paradox: a people who ought to rise in defence of their sovereignty now look outward for rescue, not from disloyalty, but from deep fatigue and disillusionment.

As I reflected on this strange reversal, I remembered an old tale of a broken realm where fear had so subdued the souls of men that the father whose innocent son had been shot before his eyes by the king merely complimented the monarch on his excellent archery; offenders bastinadoed by the royal order thanked His Majesty for keeping them in mind. Such was the abasement of a people who had learned to praise their own suffering, mistaking oppression for benevolence and cruelty for care.

As for those circulating President Tinubu’s letter insisting he is “doing enough,” shame on you. Doing enough, yet in Nigeria today people sleep with one eye open; communities are wiped out in silence; families search for loved ones who never return; and whole regions live under the shadow of fear. If this is what you call “enough,” then what would failure look like?

When I survey reactions online, my reflection deepens. The very voices that lament insecurity in the country  suddenly grow hesitant when decisive measures are proposed. Why, then, can known criminal hideouts not be dismantled? Why can the same security instruments deployed elsewhere not be applied here? How does a nation become paralysed before those who torment it daily? There are moments, I must confess, when I truly struggle to comprehend this country.

If I were President Tinubu, I would seek an immediate audience with the U.S. President, not in protest, but with the tact of a statesman who understands the mood of his people. Instead of feigned outrage, I would diplomatically reframe the moment as an invitation to partnership in restoring peace,  a gesture in sync with the very sentiments Nigerians appear prepared to applaud. Leadership is not merely about asserting sovereignty; it is about recognising when a nation’s spirit is so drained that even the prospect of outside help looks like salvation this is where we are.

His aides should help him. I truly do not understand why they – Bayo Onanuga and the rest  –  so often carry on with a kind of “degenerative  Èmilókàn looseness,”  as though governance were a street quarrel and not a solemn national duty. The President needs them now, not for the tired and juvenile skirmish against an imagined “common foe” in Peter Obi, but to assist him in framing, with courteous elegance, the language befitting an approach to the American President. This is not a moment for chest-thumping or borrowed bravado; the man in question, POTUS, as we say, na ewe-ewe oku. But in truth we need his righteous indignation in the Nigeria of today.

This is not the time for “bala blue,” nor for careless jesting/ Iyaloja debate. In moments such as this, sobriety is required. Nations weigh words by counting guns, and in that regard, the President of the United States commands more than any other leader on earth.

Shortly, I shall share the sermon of today as I routinely do.

The death of Obinna Okeadu, a young promising Nigerian Engineer in Myanmar has sparked outrage. The Okeadu family of Imo State has, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported death of their Son in Myanmar.

The late 33-year-old, who hails from Mbano in Imo State was said to have travelled to Myanmar in August after being offered what he believed was a factory job.

According to the family, they later received information suggesting that the job offer may not have been genuine.

Okechukwu Okeadu,  elder brother to the deceased at a press briefing in Abuja over the weekend stated that the family lost contact with him shortly after his arrival in Myanmar, but the family has since received unconfirmed account alleging that the late Obinna may have been held in poor conditions.

“We were told by someone who claimed to be at the same location that he was unable to communicate freely,” Okechukwu said, adding that the family has not received any official confirmation of Obinna’s status or wellbeing.

Okechukwu noted that one of the messages the family received suggested Obinna might have died, but stressed that they have yet to see his body or obtain any documentation from authorities in Myanmar.

“We are simply asking for clarity, we want to know what happened to our Son, and we are asking the Nigerian government to help us get answers.”

The Okeadu Family has however sent a Save-Our- Soul appeal to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, and International Humanitarian Agencies to look into the situation.

The family has also expressed concern that other Nigerians may also be in vulnerable conditions abroad and could require assistance.

“This is not just about Obinna, We hope that whatever investigation is carried out will help protect others who might be in similar situations.”

World Bank Confirms Nigeria’s Fresh Request For $1 Billion Loan

To consolidate ongoing economic reforms, the World Bank has confirmed a fresh $1 billion loan request from the Federal Government.

The loan will also support a transition from short-term stabilisation to inclusive growth.

According to a project document published by the bank on October 27, the new facility, titled “Nigeria Actions for Investment and Jobs Acceleration (P512892),” is tentatively slated for Board approval on December 16, 2025.

This is just as the World Bank noted that while macroeconomic stability has improved, Nigeria is yet to achieve broad-based growth, with over 130 million Nigerians still living in poverty.

“Nigeria’s economy has yet to shift decisively into a higher and inclusive growth path,” the report warned, emphasising the need for urgent investment to boost productivity, diversify exports, and create jobs.

The package comprises a $500 million International Development Association (IDA) credit and a $500 million International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) loan.

It falls under the bank’s Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment practice for the Western and Central Africa region.

The World Bank said the funding will “strengthen ongoing economic reforms, promote job creation, and accelerate private investment.” It will be implemented through the Federal Ministry of Finance.

“The proposed Development Policy Financing supports Nigeria’s pivot from stabilisation to inclusive growth and job creation.

“Structured as a two-tranche standalone operation of US$1.0 billion, it seeks to catalyse private sector–led investment by expanding access to credit, deepening capital markets and digital services, easing inflationary pressures, and promoting export diversification.”

The loan forms part of the bank’s broader support to consolidate post-reform stability and drive inclusive growth across key sectors of the economy.

Since 2023, the Tinubu administration has implemented several reform measures, including removal of petrol subsidy, exchange rate unification, and an end to Central Bank deficit financing—all under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The government says the policies have stabilised the economy, reduced the fiscal deficit, and restored investor confidence.

Genocide Allegation: Fani-Kayode Accuses President Trump Of Tyranny

0
Femi Fani-Kayode

By Adesina Soyooye

Stung by the threat of an attack on those killing Christians in Nigeria by President Donald Trump of the United States of America, Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, has, among other choice names, called him “a tyrant”

In a strongly-worded post on his X page on Sunday, Fani-Kayode, a former admirer of Trump, described him as “a deranged and sociopathic megalomaniac”.

He also accused the most powerful President in the world of hypocrisy and double standards in his approach to global conflicts.

Recall that Trump

on Friday, October 31, designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern, CPC.

President Trump cited what he saw as ongoing violence against Christians, worsened by the failure of the Federal Government to protect religious minorities.

He followed that up by saying the USA would launch a vicious war to take out those who are slaughtering innocent people because of their religious beliefs.

But the Nigerian Government, in a number of statements, including one personally signed by President Bola Tinubu, whose wife is not only a Christian, but an ordained Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, even though he is a Muslim, denied any persecution of any religious groups in Nigeria.

However, on Saturday, Trump doubled-over and threatened military action against Nigeria.

Stung by that,  Fani-Kayode lashed out at Trump and alleged that the US President “ignored the atrocities committed by the Israeli Zionist Nazis and the “UAE-backed RSF butchers of Darfur” while falsely labelling Nigerians as “killers of Christians”. He accused Trump of attempting to brand the country with genocide claims.

He, also, used as an example, a message from a friend of his who condemned Trump’s remarks, and described them as “petulant and childish.” He called on African leaders to recognize that Western powers are “not our friends.”

Fani-Kayode

emphasised that any attempt by the US to invade Nigeria would be met with resistance and said the development should serve as a wake-up call for Nigerians to value courageous and patriotic leadership.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “Imagine a deranged & sociopathic meglomaniac & tyrant, a recalcitrant and unrepentant schoolyard and dockside bully and a cheap and shameless godless scumbag like @realDonaldTrump

threatening our country with violence, military action and invasion. What a nerve!

“Trump, a fascist & an associate of the globally recognized Hitler of the 21st century, @netanyahu, has refused to call the Israeli Zionist Nazis and the UAE-backed RSF butchers of Darfur, Sudan mass murderers and genocidal maniacs but he is calling our people the “killers of Christians” and is desperately trying to label our nation with the genocide tag and create a crisis in Nigeria.

“Our Government must refuse to allow themselves to be hoodwinked by the words of middle-ranking American Governnent officials who are not members of the MAGA inner circle & who do not truly represent the very hardline and extreeme views of the right-wing Christian fundamentalist & anti-Muslim forces that Trump holds dear.”

Alleged Genocide: Tinubu, Trump To Meet Soon – Presidency

Donald Trump and Bola Tinubu

By Ayodele Oni

In the wake of brickbats over bandits attacks of Christians claim by the United States (US), President Tinubu and President Donald Trump are expected to meet soon.

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, confirmed the planned meeting in a post on Saturday saying the discussion would focus on counterterrorism cooperation and correcting misconceptions about terrorist attacks in Nigeria.

“Both President have shared interests in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote.

He noted that Trump had previously supported Nigeria’s fight against terrorism by approving the sale of arms, while Tinubu has made effective use of that support.

“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or all faiths, those would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in the State House or White House.”

Bwala’s statement follows Trump’s recent remarks accusing the Nigerian government of ignoring attacks on Christians — a claim that has sparked widespread debate.

He also warned that the United States might cut off all aid and assistance to Nigeria.

The US President had earlier on Saturday said he had directed the  Department of Defense to prepare for possible military action against Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”

According to Reuters, Trump made the disclosure in a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The U.S. government reportedly announced the immediate suspension of all aid and assistance to Nigeria.

“We may very well go into that now disgraced country, guns-a-blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump was quoted as saying
