His wife was in Abuja. On hearing of her husband’s sudden death, he took off with their driver to their home town, Auchi,  for the funeral.

He was the Speaker of the Assembly from 2007 to 2009.

Scandal: Fashola’s Attorney General, Shasore, In $2m Fraud Allegation, Labelled Dishonest; Quits JRP | The Source

Olasupo Sashore

By Gideon Njoku

Former Lagos State Attorney General, and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Olasupo Shasore, is enmeshed in a two-million dollar fraud scandal, which is threatening to rubbish his reputation. The EFCC has labelled him dishonest and, called him a saboteur, almost.

To this effect, on July the 16th, he resigned from the membership of the Justice Reform Project, JRP.

The JRP, is a group of like-mind lawyers, devoted to building trust, and confidence of the public in the Judiciary.

It is not known if he resigned on his own, or was forced to, but the JRP, in a statement, said he voluntarily resigned over the serious allegation, but would fight to reaffirm his innocence.

Shasore served as the Attoney General, and Commissioner for Justice,  under the administration of former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.

He was Fashola’s prefered candidate to succeed him as Governor, and had started his campaign by placing advertisements in national newspapers.

But the plan crashed because Lagos State’s ultimate kingmaker, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, prefered Akinwunmi Ambode to him.

Ambode fell out with Tinubu after one term in office, and was replaced by the current Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Shasore’s problem stems from the EFCC investigation of the P & ID multi-billion Dollar Scandal with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, FGN.

He was a Counsel to the FGNigeria, but according to the EFCC report, Shasore, allegedly, got himself entangled in a two-million Dollar  scandal.

Part of the EFCC report, which indicted him, and forced his resignation from JRP says:

“It  has  also  come  to  light  during  the  course  of  the  EFCC’s  investigations  that: a.  Mr  Shasore  was  paid  US$2  million  for  his  involvement  in  the  first  and  second  stages  of  the arbitration.

“The  average  salary  of  a  government  lawyer  in  Nigeria  is  just  US$5,000.

“Mr Shasore concealed  his involvement  in  the  case  from  his  own  firm,  Ajumogobia  & Okeke. He  conducted  the  proceedings  covertly  through  a  separate  firm,  Twenty  Marina,  which  had no  background  in  litigation  and  was  used  to  provide  secretarial  services.

“Mr Shasore  made  payments  of  US$100,000  each  to  Mrs  Adelore  and  Mr  Oguine,  who  were senior  lawyers  for  the  MPR  and  the  NNPC  at  the  time:  paragraphs  44-45  above.  The  most likely  explanation  is  that  these  payments  were  intended  to  purchase  the  silence  of  Mrs Adelore  and  Mr  Oguine  in  relation  to  Mr  Shasore’s  conduct  of  the  arbitration.

“Based  on  these  payments,  Mr  Shasore  was  clearly  dishonest  and  corruptible  (and,  as  set  out above,  P&ID  had  a  track  record  of  corruption).

“Following  the  election  of  President  Buhari  into  office,  and  the  transfer  of  the  conduct  of  the arbitration  to  the  MoJ  for  the  liability  phase,  Mr  Shasore  refused  to  meet  with  the  Attorney General  and  complained  that  it  was  unacceptable  and  unconscionable  to  liaise  with  [the AG’s]  office  on  the  matter,  as  he  had  always  liaised  with  the  MPR  since  commencement  of the  proceedings.

“As  described  below,  and  in  Schedule  2,  Mr  Shasore’s  conduct  of  the  first  two  stages  of  the arbitration  was  truly  egregious.  He  chose  not  to  seek  any  disclosure,  to  accept  all  material aspects  of  Mr  Quinn’s  witness  evidence,  and  did  not  seek  to  cross-examine  anyone  at  P&ID on  the  key  issue  in  the  case:  whether  P&ID  could,  and  would  have  performed  the  GSPA.

“In light  of  the  indicators  of  fraud  listed  above,  the  most  likely  explanation  for  this  is  that  Mr Shasore  had  entered  into  a  dishonest  arrangement  with  P&ID  not  to  challenge  its  evidence or  seek  any  disclosure,  with  the  inevitable  result  that  FRN  lost  the  case.

“Mr  Shasore’s  failure  to  challenge  Mr  Quinn’s  evidence 75.  A  chronology  of  Mr  Shasore’s  egregious  conduct  in  the  arbitration,  which  the  Court  is  invited to  read  in  full,  is  appended  as  Schedule  2  to  this  skeleton  argument.”

In the statement announcing his resignation, JSP said he intends to defend his reputation.

It reads: “Mr Olasupo Shasore, SAN, has today, 16th July, voluntarily, relinquished his role and function in the Justice Reform Project, in the light of serious allegations made against him in a professional capacity in recent proceedings arising from the controversial P & ID arbitration with the FGN.

“At some point, Mr Shashore, SAN, acted as Counsel to the FGN.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr Shasora, SAN, insists that at all times, he acted properly, and professionally in the best interest of his client, and will exercise all options to vindicate his conduct and defend his well earned high professional reputation.

“In the interim, however, in order that these developments do not detract or distract from the important mission of the JRP, to which he remains fully committed, he has resigned and recued himself from its functions indefinitely”

Ize Iyamu

By Akinwale Kasali

Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu is enmeshed in a new crisis. He is being accused of Intellectual Property Theft, a criminal offence in law.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Candidate in the September 19, 2020 Edo State Governorship Election is still in Court over alleged N700 Million Fraud. He is being prosecuted by the EFCC.

The Convener, Midwest Movement, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki,  insists that Ize-Iyamu is running with a stolen campaign manifesto, “The SIMPLE Agenda.”

Obaseki, in a statement, said he first publicly unveiled The SIMPLE Agenda in August 2015 during a live programme on BENTV UK, where he presented his 6-pronged campaign manifesto as an aspirant for the 2016 governorship election in Edo State.

According to him, “It has come to my attention that people have been advertising their campaign manifesto to be the SIMPLE Agenda, which is a direct lifting of my ideas I shared publicly in 2015.

“My SIMPLE idea is an acronym for Security and Social Welfare; Infrastructure Development and Urban Renewal; Manpower Development and Training; Public-Private Partnership; Leadership by Example and Employment for Edo Youths. This is the same as what the Pastor and his followers are parading online today.

“So, I state categorically that I would be commencing processes for retrieving my Intellectual Property, as it is obvious that the idea did not originate from those who are pushing on with it today.

“Every well-meaning, educated person should know what it takes to come up with an idea and articulate such in a manner that would make sense to people. I did that and today some people have plagiarized it and trying to swindle Edo people with it.”

Obaseki has vowed to take legal action against Ize Iyamu.

Ramoni Igbalode, popularly known Hushpuppi

By Akinwale Kasali

Alleged Nigerian Fraudster, Ramoni Abass Igbalode, popularly called Hushpuppi, has dumped his top Chicago lawyer and settled for a government lawyer after his case was transferred to another district.

The 37 year old who was extradited from the United Arab Emirates was resident in Dubai, and known for flaunting extravagant lifestyle on social media, was arrested last month over money laundering allegations. He was extradited to the U.S on July the 3rd.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation had earlier alleged that Hushpuppi was part of a network that made “hundreds of millions of dollars” from business email compromise frauds and other scams.

Also, the American government said Mr Abbas funded his extravagant lifestyle with stolen money.

He had hired a top lawyer in the U.S., Gal Pissetzky of the Pissetzky & Berliner law firm as his attorney.

Pissetzky, renowned for handling criminal cases in Chicago, had argued that his client sourced his money from promoting designer products on social media and a real estate investment.

It should also be noted that a Chicago court, on Monday, denied him bail and ruled that he remains in detention till his next trial date later in the year.

However, the magazine gathered that Hushpuppi’s case has been transferred to the Central District of California for prosecution.

American prosecutors had earlier said Hushpuppi would still be transferred to Los Angeles, a city in California.

During the detention hearing last Monday, the government orally renewed its motion for removal in custody and the government’s oral motion was granted.

“Accordingly, Defendant is ordered removed to the Central District of California in the custody of the U.S. Marshal forthwith. As provided by 18 U.S.C. § 3142(f), Defendant is remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal and shall remain in custody until further order of the Court,” Justice Gilbert ruled.

Transfer documents signed by Thomas G. Bruton, the Clerk of the U.S Court in Chicago, indicated that Mr Abbas was moved on Tuesday.

Moreover, in the commitment letter sent to California, Hushpuppi refused to retain Mr Pissetzky as his attorney. Rather, he requested that a court-appointed counsel be assigned to him.

If convicted, he would get a minimum sentence of 20 years in the U.S. federal prison.

“Flowing from the above and for the purpose of clarity and emphasis, the leadership of the organized labour wish to highlight the outstanding workers welfare as follows:

Officer Tolulope Arotile

By Gideon Njoku

Two people have been arrested over the alleged freak vehicle accident which killed Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s First Female Combatant Pilot.

The two male suspects are in the custody of the Nigeria Airforce, while investigations are on.

In a death that broke many hearts, Aritole, 24, was killed, according to the NAF, by her former classmate who, excited at seeing her,  wanted to greet her.  He, allegedly, inadvertently, knocked her down as he was reversing his car. She died of head injuries. The accident happened inside the NAF base, Kaduna.

With the arrest, NAF is disclosing for the first time since the accident that there might have been two people in the car; that it was not just the classmate.

Announcing the arrest of the two, and subsequent investigation of the fatal accident,  NAF’s spokesperson,  Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said:”The investigation is on, and whatever information that needs to go out will go out.”

The identity of the classmate who, allegedly, inadvertently, killed her has not been mae public, nor that of the second arrested person.

A number of groups and individuals, including her inconsolable family, have raised doubts over the cause of her death inside the Kaduna Airforce Base.

Her elder sister, with whom she lived, cast a doubt on the story, and called for an inquiry into what killed her. She said her sister, who had just returned from an assignment, was sleeping when she received a phone call, allegedly from a superior officer, who required her attention at the base. She said the Pilot was tired, and that she offered to drop her off.

An  hour later, she was told her sister was dead.

The apex Yoruba Cultural group, Afenifere, 18 other groups, and the Are Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, insist they smell foul play, and have called for a full, and thorough investigation.

Their questions are:Inside the base, at what speed could she have been knocked down? Did Arotile not see the car reversing? And was the driver driving blind? No side mirrors? Was she knocked down after, or before the greetings?  Was she knocked down from the front, or back?

Arotile will be buried on July 23, with full Military Honours, at the Abuja Military Cemetery.

Police: Ex-NDDC MD, Nunieh, Under Investigation; Outraged Nigerians Ask Why? | The Source

0

By Adesina Soyooye

The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, says that the former  Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC,  Interim Management Committee, IMC, Barr Joi Nunieh, is under investigation.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Joseph Mukan. His disclosure came as a surprise to not a few Nigerians, considering that he had, on Thursday, said that he was not aware that a detachment of Police had invaded Nunieh’s Porthacourt residence to effect her arrest.

The Policemen, numbering over a dozen, had besieged Nunieh’s residence as early as 4.00am, Thursday, to arrest her, without an arrest warrant.

On seeing them invading her home, breaking down gates and doors, she had reached out to a couple of people. She quoted Senator Magnus Abe, who reached the CP as telling her the CP was not aware of the presence of the Police, and would send Policemen from the Command to get residence.

She, also, spoke to the CP, and insists that the CP denied knowledge of their presence in her home, and even asked for her physical address to enable him send policemen to her house.

On giving him the address, she said the CP sent the DCP Operations, who, instead of protecting, after asking her to come down, made a move to jump her. She slammed the door in his face.

She was rescued by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who stormed her house, confronted the Police, slammed them for invading her house at such an uncivilized time, and without a search warrant. Wike also said it was akin to a kidnap, since neither the IGP, nor the CP knew about the invasion.

He ordered them out, and took Nunieh away with him to Government House, where she said she had become a refugee.

But in an about-face, the Rivers State Police Command now claims it was aware of the operation, and that the IGP was also aware.

At a Press Conference, the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed that the Policemen came from the IGP’s Monitoring Team, and were on legal duty. He said that they duly registered their presence at the State Command, before going for Nunieh.

To drive home the point, the CP is asking Wike to release Nunieh to him as she is under investigation. The CP did not disclose the reason for the investigation. And/or what Nunieh did.

It is not likely Wike would release her to the Police, without an outraged Nigerian public, knowing why. The question not a few people are asking is what she did? What crime, when? And why now when she is exposing an alleged monumental corruption at the NDDC.

She was billed to appear before the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee probing the scandalous and reckless wastage of money at the NDDC that morning.

The invasion of her home stopped her.

The conclusion by some Nigerians is that somebody desperately wants to stop her from appearing  before the House Committee.

Before the invasion, she had made very damning allegations against the Minister for Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio. And, even though Akpabio has put up some defence, Nunieh made more damning allegations against Akpabio on Friday, when she testified by Zoom.

Meanwhile, a Porthacourt High Court,  on Friday, gave an injunction stopping the Police, or any other Security organ, from arresting Nunieh until the substantive case is decided.

Based on the allegations, the Committee has also invited  Akpabio to appear before it on Monday.

On Thursday , President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered a speedy and coordinated investigation into the NDDC multi-billion Naira Corruption scandal.
