I Am A Fan Of President Buhari – Mailafia; Says Those Around Him Are The Problem |The Source

Dr Mailiafia Obadiah

By Akinwale Kasali

In a surprise about-turn, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obodiah Mailafia, has declared himself a fan of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He spoke on Thursday on the British Broadcasting Service, Hausa Service while answering on his earlier allegations against the President and his Government.

Mailafia became an instant news sensation after he granted an interview to an FM Radio station, Info Nigeria, and made many allegations concerning the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents.

He alleged that a Northern Governor is a Commander of the insurgent group, among other very serious allegations, including assassination plans, and the breaking of a civil war in Nigeria in 2022.

He said his information came from repentant Boko Haram Commanders with whom he spoke on a number of times.

The interview earned him an invitation by the Directorate of State Services, DSS, which released him on bail after grilling him.

But speaking to the BBC Hausa Service on Thursday, Malaifai said he regreted what he said, and declared himself a fan of President Buhari but added: ” There are bad people who don’t give him advice to help him”

He said he never knew  his  interview would go viral, and that it was misunderstood.

Apologising profusely, he confessed that he got his information from Fulani traders in a market, admitting he made a mistake, and would never repeat such a mistake.

The DSS has warned it would never tolerate such misinformation again, and accused Mailafia of playing to the gallery.

The Northern Governors’ Forum, on its part,  insists on an investigation, saying the allegations by Dr Mailafia were so weighty it should not be swept under the carpet.

Mayhem In Ibadan, As Serial Killer Escapes From Police Custody |The Source

Nigeria Police Force

By Akinwale Kasali

There is palpable tension in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, following the escape of  a 19-year-old Sunday Sodipe, a serial killer.

Sunday escaped from Police Custody, this, putting job of many Police officers in the line.

Members of the public are angry. They are alleging Police connivance. And are protecting, threatening fire and brimstone.

Sodipe, on arrest,   confessed to killing no fewer than six persons for ritual purposes in different communities in Akinyele Local Government Area of the State.

The alleged serial killer made this confession on Friday July 17th, 2020, during interrogation by the Police.

It, however, came as a surprise when the  news of his escape broke. It evoked  anger amongst the residents of Ori-Oke Olorunkole in the Local Government Area.

Residents took to the streets, and stormed  the Police Station where the accused allegedly escaped from, to protest, and were bent on unleashing mayhem at the Police Station.

On Friday, morning, residents woke up to hear the news that a middle-aged woman, simply identified as Olufunmilayo, was hacked to death.

The development made the youths in the local government to take to the streets on Friday, protesting the return of ritual killings to the local government and the alleged escape of Sodipe, who was earlier paraded before journalists by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, barely a month after his arrest.

The angry youths were said to have pelted some policemen that attempted to go to Akinyele town with stones, and made it difficult for the police to access the crime scene.

The woman was said to have been  macheted in four places, and died at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan later in the night.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, when contacted on the development, confirmed the death of the Woman, saying the police have begun investigation on it, but he could not confirm the allegation that Sodipe escaped from Police custody.

“I will get back to you on that”, he said. He failed to get back at the time of filling this report.

The protesters argued that nobody was safe any longer in the local government, and alleged that the police might have combined with Sodipe for the escape.

He, allegedly escaped without being taken to   to court, when the police went to give him food.

The protesting youths  alleged further that the development has shown that some very powerful people must  be supporting the ritual killings in the local government area.

The Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oba James Odeniran, who condemned the return of ritual killings in the town, said the father of Barakat Bello, a female student of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Federal College of Animal Health and Production, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, that Sodipe confessed he killed on June 1, this year, informed him that he saw Sodipe in Akinyele town.

“I was surprised. It was after the incident here that the man called Baba Barakat came to my Palace to tell me that the boy that killed Barakat, he saw him at Elewure, in this Akinyele yesterday and today. I said no, I can’t believe it. He said he saw him and I said no. I sent the Palace boys to go and investigate where they said they saw him, they came back to tell me that it was true. The problem with our people is that by the time they saw that boy, they did not inform anybody. I was not informed.

“Later, I phoned somebody that I learnt this boy has been released and he said no, the boy escaped from Police custody. The boy escaped from police custody and nobody was aware? I said he has done another thing in Akinyele, he has killed somebody again.

“They said we should find means of apprehending him. Since that yesterday (Thursday), I called all the youths. Then, all the Soludero Hunters and we sent them out to be on the lookout for that boy. Since yesterday evening, up till this morning, we could not locate the whereabouts of that boy.”

The Caretaker Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Taoreed Adedigba, also said: “We heard that the woman was attacked with machete. She was rescued immediately and taken to UCH. So, we heard the report that she died this morning. That was what prompted residents to embark on a mass protest.

“Unfortunately, the peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums. The hoodlums went to the extent of pelting security operatives with stones and other objects. But with the help of God, peace is gradually returning to the area and it is under control.

“I have called the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and he has deployed more officers to the area. Also, I called the Area Commander and Federal SARS and other security operatives and local security agents such as Soludero Hunters and others have arrived the area to calm the situation. The Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oba James Odeniran was also on ground to rescue few police officers that the hoodlums manhandled.

“The killing was carried out by suspected ritualists. Residents suspected a ritualist, who was reportedly arrested by the police, but allegedly escaped from their custody; he was seen in Akinyele two days ago and yesterday, the residents had to raise the alarm and people are suspecting he was the one that carried out the dastardly act.”

Cross River PDP Crisis: Why Ayade May Leave Party; The Complete Story |The Source

0
Governor Ben Ayade

The battle for the soul of Cross River PDP, multiple party sources have disclosed, is being orchestrated by a powerful elements in the party bent on humiliating Governor Ben Ayade “for having one leg in our party, and one leg in APC”

“We Don’t Know How to Classify Him”

Many PDP eggheads, especially, the majority members of its National Leadership, the magazine was informed, regard the Governor as a mole in the party and, therefore, are determined to divest the Cross River structure of the PDP from him.

“We don’t even know how to classify him, but all we know is that he is APC body and soul, and only PDP in name.

“You can hardly find him at PDP events, not even during South South PDP leaders’ meetings, but he is always quick to speak elegantly of Buhari and his APC government, and this is a man who is supposed to be an opposition governor”, a member of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, who pleaded anonymity told The source in Abuja.

He further claimed that “Ayade was billed to defect to the APC alongside Senator Florence Ita-Giwa when she left PDP but he decided to stay back at the last minute for a reason best known to him”

Recall that Senator Ita-Giwa has since returned to the PDP after a short spell in the APC.

One of the National Assembly members squaring up against the governor confirmed the alleged PDP gang up against the governor:

“Look at it this way. In terms of financial war chest, the governor has enormous resources at his disposal to run all of us out of the party, but this fight is not one money can sway, the battle to rescue Cross River  PDP is being directed from above. Its therefore, not our personal fight, it’s the party’s fight”, he told the magazine.

Liyel Imoke
Former Governor Imoke: Ayade is leader of the party

Ayade Versus Cross River NASS Members

The elements within the national leadership of the PDP against Ayade are the same people, allegedly, primed on handing over the structure of the party in Cross River to some members of the National Assembly from the state.

The arrowhead of the National Assembly members’ take over plot is Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Ogoja/ Yala Federal constituency in the House of Representatives.

Not only is Jarigbe insistent on the initial ward Congress list which was heavily skewed against the governor, he has also thrown his hat in the race for the Cross River North Senatorial bye- election to replace the late Senator Rose Okoh who died in April. But, it is not likely to be  east for him.

Ayade’s choice for the bye election is the state’s SUBEB Chairman, Dr.Stephen Odey.

Odey’s choice, it was gathered, was anchored on the belief that he would not rock the boat when it matters most.

This magazine has been informed that Odey’s triumph would be a major boost for Ayade’s dream of  returning to the Senate after a tour of duty as governor in 2023.

It is believed that Odey will easily yield the position to Ayade in 2023, and not seek a re- election thus paving the way for the return of the governor to the Senate. Ayade represented Cross River North in the senate between 2011 and 2015

Jarigbe’s aspiration is therefore, a direct affront on the governor’s political interest.

Not all the National Assembly members from the state are, however, trenchantly feuding with the Governor over the ward congress list.

Some of them, like Senator Gershon Bassey, representing Cross River South, are preaching inclusiveness and consensus arrangement to resolve the crisis.

The 2023 Nexus

Who succeeds the Governor in 2023, this magazine has learnt, is also at the heart of the Cross River PDP crisis.

“A faction of the party in the state prodded on by some NWC members,  are actually plotting to ensure that the Governor does not install his successor, The Source has been told. This, it has been learnt,  is the major genesis of the congress’ list brouhaha.

“The intention is to take away the structure of the party from the Governor, and render him a king without a kingdom”, a source told the magazine.

Party sources informed this magazine that those against the governor are  also trying to stop him from producing the next State Party Chairman.

Ayade is throwing up his loyalist, and Director-General of the state’s Due Process Office, Barrister Alphosus Ogar Eba as his candidate.

Like Odey, Barrister Eba hails from Yala Local Government Area of the state, the home local government of the late Senator Okoh

External Influence?

Fingers are pointing at a South south PDP Governor as the unseen figure behind the crisis. The said governor is, allegedly,  working to install one of the Senators as  Governor in 2023 in utter negation of the unwritten governorship  rotational arrangement in the state.

In accordance with the arrangement, another round of rotation will commence in 2023 with the next governor coming from Cross River south, the three Senatorial districts having taken their turns since 1999: Donald Duke (south, 1999- 2007), Liyel Imoke (Central, 2007- 2015) Ayade (North, 2015-2023).

Senator Gershon Bassey
Senator Gershon Bassey: Preaches consensus

Defection on Ayade’s card?

Speculations are rife that the Governor will abandon the PDP if his traducers in the party succeed in hijacking the party’s structure from him.

So far, Ayade has maintained sealed lips concerning the rumoured defection, but a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has threatened, that many PDP bigwigs, including himself, will leave the party should Ayade be forced to defect.

Alluding to an external influence in the Cross River PDP crisis, the former minister said: ” “It would be a big mistake for the National Working Committee of the PDP to take the party structures in his state away from Ben Ayade, the Governor of Cross Rivers state, and hand them over to anyone else. If this is done and Ayade leaves the party be rest assured that many of us will leave with him.

“You cannot and must not undermine a sitting Governor or attempt to humiliate him in his own state and before his people. Some of those that are advocating and behind this nonsense would never allow it to happen in their own states. A word is enough for the wise.

“No-one, no matter how big or powerful, should think that they own the PDP. If there is any attempt to undermine Ayade it will spark off a crisis in the party that will split it right down the middle and the consequences will not be limited to Cross Rivers state.”

Amicable settlement underway

Meanwhile, there are indications that party leaders, at the National and State levels, are desirous of settling the crisis to the satisfaction of all the parties involved.

You will recall that the state congress was scheduled for August 8, but the need to have a united house in Cross River made the NWC to postpone it by one week to allow for amicable settlement. The reason  also accounted for the latest postponement of the congress” a party source told the magazine.

Few days ago, Senator Gershon Bassey spoke of his solidarity with Ayade in the effort to find a middle course solution, denying that there were plans to hijack the party structure from the governor.

He said:“There were several contenders for several positions, so the leader of the party in the state, who is the Governor, decided that we should go for consensus. He has started talking to all stakeholders to achieve consensus.

“Sometimes consensus works because it means there is no victor, no vanquish, everybody has to queue into it. It makes the party stronger.

”You know we are in a political party and not a Church organization, there must always be a different point of view, that is normal for any political party. PDP and PDP in Cross River can be no different.”

Ayade is the Leader of Cross River PDP- Imoke

Meanwhile, former Governor Imoke has declared that Governor Ayade is the leader of PDP in the state, and must be recognized as such. He, however, advised the Governor to also accord Federal Lawmakers from the state their due as critical stakeholders in Cross River PDP.

Imoke’s position was contained in a press statement he released last week ahead the postponement state congress of the party.

Imoke : “Since the emergence of this democratic dispensation in 1999, Cross River State has always been a PDP stronghold. In 2019, our Party had an overwhelming victory at the polls, winning elections at all levels. The glory for that victory goes to God and to the support of the good people of Cross River State who have shown commitment and strongly supported the PDP through time.

“Over the last few months we have all observed the seeming dispute and differences within our great Party which emerged after the elections, in the build up to the Party Congresses. We have a tradition of managing and resolving disputes. I strongly believe that this one is no different from all the others.

“I hereby call on all stakeholders and party leaders to sheath their swords. This is a time to close ranks and not create factions. We need to work as a team under the leadership of the Governor. As Leader, it behoves the Governor to accommodate and protect the interests of all stakeholders and ensure balance and fairness. This has always been our way and I am confident that His Excellency will provide the necessary leadership. He should be accorded his due as Governor and Leader of our Party.

“I urge all our leaders at every level to use the opportunity of the State Congress to meet in caucus and resolve all differences, emerging as one united family. Every leader, from the Senators, members of the house of representatives, to the state assembly members and below, should be accorded their due and not be disrespected. They should reciprocate same to His Excellency. Our tradition of stakeholder consultation and concensus building should be applied over the next few days to guarantee successful outcomes”

Edo: Intrigues that May Undo Ize-Iyamu Afoot |The Source

Ize Iyamu Campaign

By Ebere Levi

Multiple party sources have informed The Source that vested interests within the All Progressives Congress, APC,  have shifted their battle for the control of the party to Edo, and is now using the September 19 gubernatorial election in the state as a dress rehearsal for the titanic battle for the party’s soul ahead the 2023 election.

“We Will Ensure Edo is Out of Their Reach”

A faction of the party opposed to the National Leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and the deposed National Chairman, Adam Oshiohmole, this magazine has been told, is bent on denying the pro- Tinubu/ Oshiohmole faction a foothold in Edo.

A party insider quoted a very senior party chieftain, and one of the prime movers of the anti- Tinubu/Oshiohmole faction, as vowing thus: “Tinubu and his allies, including our former National Chairman, remain members of our great party, but their plot to annex the party and pocket it has been effectively checkmated. Therefore, we will ensure that Edo is out of their reach, even if it means cutting our nose to spite our face, so be it”

A Gathering Storm

A credible party source informs that the anti- Tinubu/Oshiohmole faction is working from within to ensure that the APC candidate for the Edo election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is defeated by governor Godwin Obaseki who is now a PDP governor having defected to the party last month, following his disqualification from the APC guber primary, by the now sacked Oshiohmole led National Working Committee, NWC, of the party.

“What is currently playing out in APC, as regards the Edo governorship election, is “APC against APC”, our source revealed.

Continuing, he further informs: “The internal APC forces against Oshiohmole and Tinubu are, also, by extension against the victory of Ize Iyamu. Therefore, they won’t mind Obaseki’s victory in order to thwart Tinubu/Oshiohmole ascendancy”

“Ize-Iyamu’s Victory is  Tinubu/Oshiohmole”

Some elements within the APC who fought to dethrone Oshiomole are emphatic that he was sacked as National Chairman to prevent him from handing over the party’s structure to Tinubu. They allege that before he was sacked, Oshiohmole was working towards handing the 2023 APC Presidential ticket to the former Lagos state governor.

A party chieftain told The Source: “Having succeeded in stopping Oshiohmole on his track, it will be  bad politics to support anything, or anybody, capable of giving him a lifeline, politically.

Adams Oshiomhole
Oshiohmole: His traducers are bent on finishing him off

“Its a common knowledge that Ize-Iyamu is his candidate, his victory, therefore, means Oshiohmole’s victory; it will also be Tinubu’s victory. Edo in the kitty of the Tinubu/Oshiohmole alliance could alter the 2023 calculations as regards our party’s presidential ticket and we won’t allow this happen. And we will be ready to sacrifice Edo to stop it”

Some National Assembly Members, Governors, others won’t Campaign for Ize-Iyamu

Competent sources close to the national leadership of the party confided in the magazine that as a result of the wide crack on the APC’s wall, some party stalwarts, listed as members of the APC campaign council for Edo, have distanced themselves from the Ize-Iyamu campaign.

Said one of the sources: “Though the governor Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker  leadership of APC has inaugurated Edo Governorship Campaign Council, I can tell you, for free, that many of those listed as  members including National Assembly members, Governors and party senior chieftains who are not in the Tinubu/Oshiohmole faction, have since distanced themselves from the Ize-Iyamu campaign.

“They are neither openly, nor discreetly, supporting the APC guber candidate financially and morally”

Anti- Ize-Iyamu Court Case Looms

This Magazine learnt that as part of the bid to scuttle Ize- Iyamu’s chances, and by extension, hurt the Tinubu/Oshiohmole faction, a faction of the party in Edo still  loyal to Governor Obaseki, is being positioned to obtain a restraining order from a High court, a day to the election, stopping the APC candidate from contesting in the election on the grounds that the Edo APC faction that granted him waiver,  was  illegally constituted at the time it gave him the waiver.

Ize-Iyamu, a founding APC member, defected to the People’s Democratic party, PDP in 2016 under which platform he contested that year’s Edo governorship election. He, however, returned to the APC a few months ago to contest the September 19 election.

The Broom is Still Closely knitted, Solidly Behind Ize-Iyamu

Meanwhile, a member of the National Caretaker Committee of the APC has pooh-poohed insinuations of internal insurrection against Ize- Iyamu, insisting that every single APC member is solidly behind him.

“Like every big political party, there are minor family disagreements in the APC, but that is not to suggest that internal insurrection is in the offing, especially as it concerns the Edo election.

I can assure you that the the broom is still a formidable bunch, still closely knit, and solidly behind its candidate in Edo. Every single APC member is solidly behind Ize-Iyamu”, he told The Source.

Kamala Harris, Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential Pick, Is Nigeria’s In-law! |The Source

Kamala Harris

By Charles Igbo

Surprise, surprise!

If Joe Biden, the USA Democratic Party Presidential candidate, and his Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Kamara Harris, win the November election, and take charge of the White House, Nigeria can make some noise. The country can claim a little stake at the White House.

No jokes.

Kamara’s niece,  Meena, is married to a Nigerian son, Nik (Nicholas) Ajagu.

Nik is the son of Dr. Chris Ajagu, from Nimo, Anambra state.

He works with Facebook as a Top Executive, while his wife, Meena, is a staff Attorney with Uber.

Both of them live in San Francisco, and have kids.

Senator Harris, whose mother is from India, and father from Jamaica, is the first blackwoman to be nominated as a Vice Presidential candidate of a major party in the USA.

Mr Nick & Mrs Meena Amara
Mr & Mrs Ajagu

She was also the first blackwoman to be the Attorney General of California, and the second black woman to be a Senator.

Now, if she is elected the Vice President of the US, she will be the first Nigerian in-law in the White House.

To the excitement and applause of Democrats and not a few people in America, Biden picked  Senator Harris as his running mate. The popular thinking is that she would be an exciting plus, to Biden’s chances  for a possible victory.

Deputy Governor’s Cousin Dumps Him, Leads PDP, ZLP members to APC |The Source

Akinwunmi Sowore

By Adesina Soyooye

A cousin of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi has dumped him.

Barrister Akinwunmi Sowore, in dumping his cousin, who is the Governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP,  said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, is a more quality Ese-Odo  candidate.

This came as the Ondo State Government  dismissed the Third force  as tough fraud.

Sowore, a former Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government did not dump Ajayi alone, on Friday. He led no fewer than 1,200 and decamped to the ruling APC.

The defectors were, formerly, members of the main opposition party,  PDP as well as the ZLP.

The former Council boss was received  to the APC by the State Chairman, Engr Adetimehin, in the presence of the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Lucky Ayedatiwa,  Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, and other notable leaders of the APC from both Ese-Odo and Ilaje LGAs.

Sowore, from Kiribo Town, Apoi Ward 2 in Ese-Odo said the decision to

harvest the whole of PDP in the ward and other parts of the Local government for the APC was informed by the wonderful performance of Governor  Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

“Aside the outstanding performance of our Amiable governor,  Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, it is only morally just for the entire state to allow the governor complete eight years in order to fulfil political configuration of the state.

“Please express this message to the Governor that we, in Ese Odo, are people of character and integrity. Let him not use the attitude of the estranged deputy Governor as a yardstick to judge us.

“In any case, Akeredolu is even more of quality candidate as an indigene of Ese-Odo than the man who is claiming Ese-Odo. Our people should note that we have got a more experienced and qualitative person in Aketi than anyone, if you are confronted that our brother is running after all.

Agboola Ajayi
Agboola Ajayi

Speaking at the event, Adetimehin lauded Sowore for his courage and foresight, saying the array of supporters he had brought on board showed he meant business.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Ojogo charged the leadership of the APC in Ese Odo to stand form and repeat the fest achieved during the July 20 governorship primary even as he described the much touted third force as tough fraud and an aborted pregnancy.

“If we were united to defeat all forces by delivering over 80 percent for Aketi, now that we are more united than ever before, we will not do less. Ignore whatever anyone says about third force, it is a tough fraud not third force because they are singing about a pregnancy that had been aborted along the journey”, Ojogo said.

How Mailafiya Deceived The Public, And Shocked The DSS |The Source

0
Dr Mailiafia Obadiah

By Adesina Soyooye & Uche Mbah

Anybody who listened as the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Dr Obediah Mailafiya, struggled to pronounce the word, collaboration, on Channels Television, would know that something was wrong. He had lost self confidence with which he spoke on the Radio station which triggered his invitation to the Directorate of State Services. He was no longer sure-footed. He was stuttering.

It was on the Television’s 7.00pm news, just before the Politics Today program. Mailafia had just been released, on bail, from the DSS, Jos office, where he was grilled for about six hours, over a scary interview he granted to a radio station.

He had scared Nigerians in that interview by alleging many things, including, but not limited to:

*A Nigerian Governor in the North being a Boko Haram Commander.

*Arms and ammunition being air-lifted by the sect, during the lockdown, and dropped at different locations, nationwide.

*That the second phase of the Boko Haram insurgency would be the invading of cities and the killing of important Nigerians.

*That the sect would kick off a civil war in Nigeria in 2022.

He said he got his information from repented top Commanders of the Boko Haram, who he had discussed with – not once, not twice. He put his credibility as an Oxford University trained Ph.D holder in the line.

For airing the interview, now classified as hate speech, the Radio station, Nigeria Info 99.3 FM,  was fined a whopping five million Naira.

When Mailafia came out on bail, he had the need to address the many people waiting for him in front of the DSS office,  asking for his release.

Given the weight of his allegations, those waiting for him were not expecting his release that day. Which explain why his wife was, already, soliciting the help of the international community, and some elder statesmen, to intervene on behalf of her husband.

But the face of the DSS has been changing in the past one year plus. It gets more decent than the DSS of old, day by day.  Even he confirmed it. He said he was treated with respect. He said the officers were decent and their discussion with him civil.

So, addressing the people outside, he admitted he was wrong. He said he does realise (now) that he ought to have collaborated (he struggled with its pronouncuation) a couple of things he said in the interview he granted.

Meaning he must have said so to the DSS and apologised.

He condemned the killings going on in all parts of Nigeria, the North, in particular, and his “beloved Southern Kaduna”, especially.

Southern Kaduna has become the very ugly face of Nigeria’s killing field.

Then, the former CBN D.G. began to double-speak. He said he stood by what he told the radio station. The next day, that made news, and overshadowed what he said about not confirming his information.

The question many asked was: How could he have admitted, in one breath, that he did not collaborate his information, that he should have, and in another breath, insist he stood by them.

Confusing? Definitely.

This apparently angered the DSS which may not have wanted to make public their discussion with him.

The Service was compelled to issue a Press Statement, disclosing a bit of what transpired, inside, between them which are:

*He apologised to the DSS, profusely, for what the Service described as his irresponsible interview.

*He could not substantiate any of his allegations.

*And contrary to his boast that he spoke to repented Boko Haram Commanders, he told those grilling him that he spoke to Farmers.

*That his information came from farmers.

The DSS, in the release, signed on its behalf by Spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya, said the Service was disappointed that somebody, of his status, came out to start playing to the gallery, instead of speaking the truth. The Service emphasised the Malaifia, at his level, has access to the leadership of Security Agencies, and should have confided in him.

The Service gave a stern warning that such behaviours or unfounded utterances, meant to destabilise the Country, will no longer be condoned,  as his utterances were part of the plan by some people, for which the DSS had  alerted the public earlier on, to destabilise Nigeria.

The statement reads:

“On 27th July, 2020, the Department of State Services (DSS) alerted the nation about desperate efforts by some notable personalities to use their exalted positions; take advantage of developments in the country and cause a total breakdown of law and order. It also revealed that part of the orchestrations was to engage in divisive acts as well as use inciting statements to pit one group against another.

“With latest occurrences in the country, Nigerians may have no reason to doubt the Service’s earlier pronouncement. Dr. Obadiah Mailafiya’s recent outburst aimed at playing to the gallery and creating unnecessary tension is a confirmation of his group’s desperation to breach the peace.

“Mailafiya, as a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and currently, a Directing Staff at Nigeria’s foremost Policy Research Institute, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, has unhindered access to government platforms. It is expected that he should be conversant with official information management protocols.

“But regrettably, he chose to cross the lines of decorum and conduct expected of a personality of his status. It is disappointing that he never took advantage of these to reach any of the security or related agencies to share the so called information at his disposal. This, he has agreed to be a grievous error on his part. It, however, suggests his mischief and determination to use the fake news he spewed to incite the people under his control.

” It is even more condemnable that Mailafiya, who had profusely apologized during his visit to the Service’s Plateau State Command for his ignoble statement, would, afterwards, announce to the world that he stood by his misguided eruption.

“Similarly, the Service also wishes to warn others, who in the guise of political mobilization and supposed pursuit of group interests, engage in hostile and subversive activities, to desist forthwith from advancing their inimical and parochial causes.

“The Service will not stand idly and watch disgruntled and aggrieved elements take laws into their hands and cause mayhem in the polity.

“In line with its mandate of detecting and preventing threats and crimes against the internal security of Nigeria, the Service hereby reiterates its previous warning that it will henceforth not condone unruly conducts of persons and groups that ought to know better.

“In this regard, it will not hesitate to, within the confines of the law, decisively deal with such persons and/or groups, no matter how highly placed, that may wish to test its resolve. It will, nonetheless, continue to support participatory democracy in the country and therefore urges all players to abide by the rules of the game.

“On the other hand, the Service implores law abiding citizens to go about their normal businesses without fear. It assures them of protection and pledges to strengthen existing  measures designed to achieve this objective.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Governors Forum is not taking, lightly, the allegations made by Mailafia. In a reaction, its Chairman, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, says the NGF, insists on an investigation into Mailafia’s allegations.

The Forum wants him to prove them, especially, the bit about one of them,  who he alleges is a Book Haram Commander.

Malaifia is likely to be invited again, by the DSS, if an investigation is carried out as requested by the NGF.

Meanwhile, ,there is a social media uproar over the  five million Naira fine  imposed on a Radio station, Nigeria Info FM 99.3, by the National Broadcasting Commission, for airing Maiyafia’s interview.

Many described the action as illegal, since the law establishing the Commission did not give it the power to impose fines.  It appears more like appropriating the functions of the National assembly.

The uproar that greeted the action was more of condemnation of the Commission, with the former Vice President , Atiku Abubakar, saying the fine on Nigeria Info radio was a “threat to an evolving democracy like Nigeria’s.” Many view the move as a backdoor attempt to bring back Decree 2, through the back door.

The Minister of Information and Culture had approved the raise of the penalty for hate speech from N500, 000 to N5 million, with notable people like Prof Wole Soyinka, saying it is draconian.

According to the regulatory body, Nigeria Info 99.3FM was fined N5 million for “providing its platform to be used to promote unverifiable and inciting views that can incite crime, public disorder.”

They cited the alleged unprofessional conduct of  the media house in the handling of the programme, “Morning Cross Fire”, aired on Monday between 8.30 am and 9.00 am.

“Dr Mailafia Obadia’s comments on the ‘Southern Kaduna Crisis’ was devoid of facts and by broadcasting same to the public, Nigeria Info 99.3FM is in violation of the following sections of Nigeria Broadcasting Code: 3.1.1 No broadcast shall encourage or incite to crime, lead to public disorder or hate, be repugnant to public feelings or contain offensive reference to any person or organization, alive or dead or generally be disrespectful to human dignity,” the NBC said in a statement.

The National Broadcasting Commission Board has, however, distanced itself from the amendment of the code, insisting it was ‘erroneously’ done by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.

How A Traffic Lie Destroyed Onasanya |The Source

Fiona Onasanya

Fiona Onasanya is a Nigerian, although she never lived in any part of the country. She was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She would go on to become a lawyer, and a Member of Parliament (MP) in Britain.

Her ultimate ambition was anything but ordinary: To become the first black female Prime Minister of her country of birth

As things stand, that dream has suffered an abortion, triggered by the eclampsia of zero integrity.

The failed delivery started shortly after 10pm on 24 July 2017, when her car was caught on CCTV camera clocking 41mph on the Causeway of Thorney, Cambridgeshire. That area is a 30mph zone.

Upon investigation, she told the Police that she wasn’t the person behind the wheels on the said night. She insisted that it was her brother, Festus Onasanya, who was the driver.

The former Labour MP who rose to the position of Party Whip, it was found, had connived with her brother to name one Aleks Antipow, her sibling’s former lodger, as the driver. Unfortunately, that alibi wasn’t water tight.

Antipow was with his parents in Russia, 1,800 miles away, at the time of this fateful driving.

This string of lies would become the undoing of Onasanya, who was a former commercial property lawyer. At the Old Bailey trial, she was found guilty and jailed for three months for perverting the course of Justice, as lying is deemed.

Neither did her brother escape the long arm of the law as he bagged 10 months behind bars for making himself available for conspiracy.

Promptly, the Labour Party launched a successful recall proceeding, and deposed her as an MP for Peterborough.

You would have thought she had suffered enough for lying- a routine misdeed for many. But in that event, that wasn’t the opinion of the British legal profession umpire!

The Solicitors Tribunal held a disciplinary hearing on Onasanya, for lying to evade consequences of speed limit breach.

Seemingly remorseless, she arrived the hearing with her mother where she held on to her browbeaten line that she was innocent.

In the face of her insistence, the tribunal took the view that she had failed to act with integrity, that she acted dishonestly and failed to maintain the trust the public placed in her.

The Chair of the three- member panel, which sat in Central London, Edward Nally summed up the matter this way: *”As a parliamentarian makes the law, so a solicitor must uphold the law and rule of law and sadly in this case Ms Onasanya has failed in those duties. We must strike off Onasanya from the roll of solicitors”.

With those words, Onasanya who qualified as a lawyer in November 2015, and worked in the lucrative area of commercial property law before becoming an MP in June 2017, will now seek gainful employment in any profession where integrity is not a critical qualification.

Lying is an unpassable wrongdoing.

This is the message spelt out clearly by the Onasanya experience.

On the other hand, the everyday Nigerian might wonder what the big deal is about lying, let alone about the speed with which a car was driven. Some others might even ask in sarcasm, ‘was anyone killed by the speed?’ There goes the mindset that sets integrity alight.

MSD Reminds  you to Act Leaderly and insist that in any event, the standard for leaders, as captured by the solicitors’ panel, is MATCHLESS INTEGRITY!

EVERYTHING RISES AND FALLS ON LEADRSHIP!

High Court, Akure

By Ayodele Oni, Akure

Justice is on course in Ondo state as both the judiciary and executive are collaborating to put an end to rampant cases of the rape of underaged girls.

A few days after a driver bagged life sentence for raping a teenager in Ondo town, another  High Court, sitting in Akure, has sentenced a paedophile teacher, Omotayo Adanlawo, to life imprisonment, for raping a 10-year old girl.

The victim is a daughter of the accused’s Church founder at Iju, in Akure North Local Government area.

Justice Samuel  Bola, in his judgement, said Adanlawo failed to give convincing evidence and testimony to prove his innocence while he described the victim as a ‘witness of truth’ because of the courage and precision in her testimony.

The prosecution, led by Stella Adegoke, told the Court that the teacher, on 24th August 2018, went to the victim’s house while she was alone, and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her with a warning not to tell anyone else, or she would die.

According to her,  it was when the victim started complaining of stomach pains and could not walk properly afterwards that her mother took her to a hospital for examination where it was revealed that the girl had been raped.

The little girl, therafter, opened up and disclosed that her father’s Church member, Omotayo Adanlawo, had sexual intercourse with her.

The case was reported at Iju-Itaogbolu Divisional Headquarters before being transfered to Ala Area Command. A medical report revealed that there was actual penetration.

Based of the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, Adanlawo was arraigned before Justice Samuel Bola on a one count charge of rape contrary to section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the criminal laws of ondo state.

The prosecution called five witnesses, including the victim and her mother, while the defendant did not call anyone.

Adanlawo in his statement before the police claimed the young girl asked him to lie  on her after demanding for fifty naira and chinchin. But during cross examination, he claimed that he was at home at the time of the incident.

He also claimed to be battling with hernia and, as such, was not medically fit to have sexual intercourse with the girl.

Justice Bola in his judgement said he was satisfied that the prosecution was able to establish rape against adanlawo

He also said the convict gave no medical report to prove his condition as well as any evidence to suggest he was in his house as claimed on the day of the incident.

He, therefore, sentenced Adanlawo to life imprisonment in line with section 358 of the crimanal laws of ondo state.
