EndSARS Address: Buhari Warns Protesters Against Subversive Elements

0

By Muhammadu Buhari

Fellow Nigerians,

It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.

  1. I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well – intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
  2. On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.
  3. The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.
  4. As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five-point demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.
  5. On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive Police reforms.
  6. Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.
  7. The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the Palace of a Peace Maker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an International Airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.
  8. All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of our country.
  9. The spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation through the social media in particular, that this government is oblivious to the pains and plight of its citizens is a ploy to mislead the unwary within and outside Nigeria into unfair judgement and disruptive behaviour.
  10. On the contrary, both our deeds and words have shown how committed this administration has been to the wellbeing and welfare of citizens, even with the steadily dwindling revenues, and the added responsibilities and restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
  11. Government has put in place measures and initiatives principally targeted at youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in our society. These included our broad plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years; the creation of N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund to provide opportunities for the youths and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Survival Fund, through which government is:
  1. paying three months salaries of the staff of 100,000 micro, small – and medium – enterprises,
  2. paying for the registration of 250,000 businesses at the Corporate Affairs Commission,
  3. giving a grant of N30,000 to 100,000 artisans; and
  4. guaranteeing market for the products of traders.
  1. These are in addition to many other initiatives such as;
  1. Farmermoni,
  2. Tradermoni,
  3. Marketmoni,
  4. N-Power,
  5. N-Tech and
  6. N-Agro.
  1. No Nigerian Government in the past has methodically and seriously approached poverty-alleviation like we have done.
  2. With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.
  3. In order to underscore the importance of education in preparing youths for the future, this administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers.
  4. Let me at this point reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the unity of this country.
  5. We will continue to improve good governance and our democratic process, including through sustained engagement.
  6. We shall continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected.
  7. But remember that government also has the obligation to protect lives and properties, as well as the right of citizens to go about their daily businesses freely and protected from acts of violence.
  8. To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements.
  9. In the circumstances, I would like to appeal to protesters to note and take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of this administration designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, and resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating our nascent democracy.
  10. For you to do otherwise will amount to undermining national security and the law and order situation. Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.
  11. I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.
  12. And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.
  13. I would like to thank those state Governors, traditional and religious leaders who have appealed for calm and restraint. I also thank youth leaders who have restrained their followers from taking the law into their hands.
  14. This government respects and will continue to respect all the democratic rights and civil liberties of the people, but it will not allow anybody or groups to disrupt the peace of our nation.

Thank you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

EndSARS: Presidency Blames Adeboye, Others After Buhari’s Address

0

By Tosin Olatokunbo

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has again thrown punches against religious leaders in the country for fanning the embers of hate, following aggravation of violence by protesters demanding good governance and reform in the police force.

The presidential spokesman said this in an article he titled ‘If Nigeria Dies, Hatred Killed Her’on the heels of the national broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari, which many said failed to pacify angry Nigerians after soldiers killed EndSARS protesters in Lekki, Lagos on Tuesday.

The united state of America, UK and Amnesty International are among those that have criticised the fatal shooting of armless protesters by men of the Nigerian Army.

Adesina has, however blamed pastors and imams for spreading hate speeches that aggravated the carnage in the last 15 days.

Recall that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God, Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel were among religious leaders that have called out the government to dialogue with the protesters.

The presidential adviser said the quest to grab power by various political actors in the country in 2023 and hate speeches by notable clerics has further poured fuel in the agitation by mostly youths across the country.

“The EndSARS campaign began as an agitation against police brutality, in which there was unanimity of purpose. And suddenly, it became a vehicle of hate. Against leadership, against national cohesion, an opportunity to settle political scores, and equally prepare for power grab in 2023. Hatred came into the mix,” Adesina said.

Adding that “When things boil over in graphic demonstration of hatred, it is a culmination of negative sentiments and tendencies. They come in persistent negative postings on social media, which generate and stimulate hate.

“From hateful messages from the pulpit, as if that was the message of love Jesus Christ handed over to his followers. From unduly critical messages during jumat services. From radio and television programs, in which bile is spewed. From talk shows which become a harangue of government, newspaper articles and columns tailored to instigate and generate dissent, and the like.

“Eventually, all cumulate in hatred, which finds expression in genuine causes like the EndSARS campaign. When things boil over, they leave sorrow, tears and blood in their wake, as we have seen. And who suffers? The whole country. Who bleeds? Nigeria.”

He blamed the president’s political opponents for skirmishes, adding that religious clerics have  been spewing hatred using their positions as opinion molders in churches and mosques, rather than calling for restraint among their followers.

Adesina said “Those beaten black and blue in the 2015 and 2019 elections also crept in, and asked for their pound of flesh, while also plotting for a return to power in 2023, Hatred is evinced from many quarters for Nigeria, and for its government and people at any given time. It comes from churches, mosques, professional activists and agitators, interest groups, some elements in the media, so-called analysts who never see anything good, and so on and so forth.”

Meanwhile, many Nigerians have cirticised President Buhari for not addressing the killing of protesters by soldiers in Lagos on Tuesday.

Recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu had said that he didn’t order the operation in which at least seven protesters were killed in cold blood. He said soldiers would only obey the president who’s the commander-in-chief.

My 81 Days Awkuzu SARS Experience – Justin Nwankwo |The Source

0
Justin Nwankwo

(Warning: Not for the faint-hearted)

I arrived Awkuzu SARS on the 1st day of August, 2013, with my boss Chief Bonaventure Mokwe-Dikeh, in a weakened body after 6 hours being locked up in a police ‘Black Maria’ van, with 12 other staff of Upper Class Hotel, Onitsha.

I had kept my mind alert refusing to faint or collapse in the van. Upon arrival, I could read the bold inscriptions on the wall of that abattoir camp which says “Welcome to hell fire”.

I quickly told myself that we are in for the worst. I have heard tales of this abattoir. I always thought and believed that it was the land of mongrels and that it was absolutely reserved for hardened criminals until I arrived.

But no, I was mistaken. It was a center for butchering both the innocent and the guilty. A theatre of human death and sale of human parts.

Remind me, I shall tell you about the doctor who was always on flowing white agbada at Awkuzu Sars, who comes to treat gunshot wounds. His expertise is in negotiating sale of human parts.

I was marshalled straight by the almighty O.C SARS to an open rickety hall upon our arrival. All other victims were separated, each to his or her own fate.

Torture in the Abattoir: (Only the lucky survives)

Standing by one end was a police officer with two suspects who were chained together, tempo of the interrogation was getting higher.  Momentarily forgetting my own ordeal, I kept a gaze on all corners of the hall abandoned with an ominous look of a 2nd world war torture camp.

Ropes were streaming down from ceiling tops, bags of sand were elevated on perimeter wall fence of the hall and all types of rod and metal varying in shape, length and size were starring at you while you hear shouts of people from the back of the hall screaming the name of their late great grandmothers to come and intercede on their behalf.

Buckets of water are kept on standby in case one faints or opts to die before appending signature to already written statements. I was still mentally surveying the entire facility when I was jolted back to reality by the sound of a rapid military rifle, ‘tem tem tem’.

“You no wan talk…you wan follow am go, you wan travel”?, were the words resonating from the other end of the hall. I tried looking but slaps from my I.P.O (Investigating Police Officer) reminded me that I was not in this camp for excursion or tourism.

“That guy don travel ooo”, said my IPO. “So make you tell me the truth otherwise I go travel you”, were the words from the officer.

Meanwhile, the O.C Sars, the 2IC (2nd in command) and about 4 other police officers started asking me questions ranging from personal to family to academic background questions

When I got to the part that I was a PhD student, the questions ceased and the O.C shouted, “Mr. Tell us what happened”,  or in his Abakaliki accent, “ma agbajisie gu ukpa la abo (I will shoot your two legs).

I started my story of what happened but that was not what they wanted to hear. The questions were already made and I must be categorical in my answers

“Your director kills people”, “No Sir”, I retorted!

And the torture started properly.

Make him talk (ordered the OC James Nwafor) before he went to supervise the torture of Chief Bonaventure Mokwe at the back of the hall.

Ropes were tied by my two hands, by the two legs, then both legs and hands bent and tied together with a rod passing through them and then elevated to a perimeter wall.

In fact, if you have watched a goat being prepared for suya barbecue, then you are close to the picture.

At the turn of each question and non-compliance, a bag of sand is added at my back to add extra pain. Cries upon wails until you pass out. “Ooh you want to die?”,

A cold bucket of water quickly spoils your trance and brings you back to reality.

From minutes to hours, the torture lasts ontop of the beam. In the cell, we call it ”Hanging”, the  boss of the cell will always differentiate ”ndi agbara” hanging with others because you will be laid flat at the cell for at least 3 days before your joints start to heal.

The ”hanging” never stops until finally you start saying that you killed XYZ so that you can be brought down meanwhile XYZ is alive.

From hanging on the beam, tying of rope in a strangulation mode around the neck, inserting of pin and rope inside the penis to shooting of bullets in a circular fashion, increasing the tempo of the questions at each turn, one is immersed into a theatre of pain and your pre-written statements, a product of individual pain threshold.

In the midst of my torture, I opted to set forth at dawn, dragging myself to crossover the threshold of death but they were Anthills in the Savannah.

On his part, Bonaventure Mokwe was undergoing his own routine hanging and strangulation and his shouts of “nne mooo, nne moooo, nne moooo”, was reverberating from the back of the hall.

“I will kill you and nothing will happen”, were consistently echoing from the Chief Butcher James Nwafor. At this point, every body was carrying his own cross, nothing I could do to help the old man but to soak my own pain without giving up the ghost.

The gods were wise. Around 8pm that night, I was unconsciously taken into Cell 5. I came to know the real essence of that cell days later.

Cursed with five cells at that Bay, some are better than the others. Cell 5 is the worst because it is tagged “Condemned cell”. If you happen to be there, then you are not in Awkuzu SARS because that cell for them does not exist. High profile criminals caught with military rifles are kept there awaiting execution and because our case had all the above element, I smelled the cell for 6 hours and was transferred out in the morning of the next day while the director remained there till the 5th of August.

From Cell 5, I moved to Cell 1 and to Cell 4 where I rotted away without taking a bath or brush, defecating in a nylon polythene and not seeing the light of day for 81 days.

Cell 4 and Cell 3 in Awkuzu SARS  are dark cells. No light, no ventilation and no windows. Completely dark from morning to evening. People who are tortured return back with ambulance services performed by inmates since you can neither walk, move or shift any part of your body. The demand for water is the case consistently but no one gives you. Your Cell boss knows the implications of giving you water and so brotherhood of men is preserved for it transcends the sovereignty of nations.

Cellmates die from suffocations.

Cellmates die from torture effect.

Cellmates die from gunshot wounds unattended to.

Cellmates die from trauma.

Cellmates are summarily pulled out and executed in the middle of the night.

Akwuzu SARS was a theater of death. An abattoir.

Dying in the cell is a normal occurrence and the ambulance duty each morning is to take them to the back yard for the diabolic looking doctor to confirm.

Cell 4 and 3 were total blackout cells filled with the stench of inmates purportedly caught with locally made pistols and kidnapping cases.

In my days at Guantanamo bay, I rekindled my pastoral skills and led the two twin cells of 3 and 4 in morning, afternoon and night devotions. Sleeping was with one eye open because gunshots fill the air at all times and people are summarily judged through the barrel of a gun. Answering your name at odd hours is risky and mentioning of your name reminds one of the ambulance job we do each day for fallen comrades.

A room of not more than 2 square feet size packed by 29 to 31 suspects.

Heat kills, hunger kills, mental switch on and off kills, and police bullets do the rest.

Who will be the next to be killed?

At the abattoir, talks of going to court is freedom itself and remanding one in prison custody was answering of prayers from God.

Every day we waited for our turn, singing to the Almighty, “Abraham Blessing are mine”. “He delivered Paul and Silas”.

Nwankwo, PhD, has just told his horrifying experience in the hands of SARS, in Awkuzu, Anambra State.CSP Nwafor, who has just been sacked by Governor Willie Obiano, was the Officer-in-charge (O/C SARS, Awkuzu)

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has disclosed that he has no control over soldiers few hours after men of the Nigerian Army shot and killed EndSARS protesters in Lekki, Lagos state.

“No sitting governor controls the rules of engagement of the military. I have, nonetheless, instructed an investigation into the adopted rules of engagement employed by the officers of the Nigerian Army that were deployed to the Lekki Toll Gate last night,” the governor said in a broadcast to the people of the state.

The governor said while Addressing Lagosians on Wednesday, that he has visited the hospitals and mortuaries in the state to check on victims, and no fatality so far.

Breaking: I Appealed To Gov. Sanwo-Olu To Take Action – Tinubu |The Source

Bola Tinubu
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

By Gideon Njoku

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State, and an APC chieftain, Wednesday morning confirmed his influence in the affairs of the Lagos State Government.

Speaking in an interview on a Channels Television programme, Tinubu disclosed he was instrumental to Governor Babajide’s response to the demands of the #EndSARS protesters.

He was answering questions on the allegations that he encouraged the bloody attack on the protesters Tuesday evening which recorded fatalities. Many were also injured.

Denying any role in the carnage which has outraged the world, Tinubu said he would never be part of any such thing, and roundly condemned the army for using live bullets on the protesters. “Why should they use live bullets?”, he asked.

Explaining his role in trying to handle the crisis, and douse tension, Tinubu said he appealed to the Youths, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to respond to their demands.

Claiming credit for the actions the Governor took, flowing from his appeal to him, Tinubu said: ” That was why he (the Governor) set-up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. Tbe Governor has gone to the home of one of the victims to appeal to them.

“He has put N200m together  as part of restitution and compensation for those attacked.”

Long before now, Tinubu had been accused of trying to run the affairs of every Lagos state Government since he left office as Governor.  It is an allegation he has done little to deny, which was worsened by the denial of a second term ticket to former Governor Akinwumu Ambode. It was allegedly championed by Tinubu.

GTB, Lekki Toll Gate Razed, As Two Ladies Confront Tinubu |The Source

Lagos EndSARS Protesters

By Charles Igbo

An All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, and former Governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, came under interrogation Tuesday night by two Ladies. Tinubu thus became the first “victim” of the private phone numbers of some high profile individuals made public by the protesters.

In a recorded phone call, the ladies called Tinubu wicked, and accused him of sending thugs after the #ENDSARS protesters. When he denied any relationship with the thugs, they countered him by accusing him of usually encouraging thuggery, and that going about with thugs has always been his stock in trade.

Tinubu, also, denied the ownership of the Lekki Toll Gate when the two Ladies accused him of encouraging the attack at the Lekki Toll Gate because the protesting Youths had blocked it, and stopped him from making money from Toll collections which runs into millions of Naira, daily. They asked him how much money  he wanted to make in life.

But Tinubu  accused the Ladies of believing lies against him in the social media when they accused him of not speaking up.

Tinubu had, on Monday, applauded the protesters, and condemned the hoodlums who corrupted the  protest.

On Tuesday night, the multi- billion Lekki Toll Gate was destroyed, and two banks, including a GTB  branch in Lekki were razed down.

Earlier on Tuesday three police Police Division Headquarters and the Headquarters of a Local Government Area were razed down in Lagos.

Gov Sanwo-Olu Blames Lekki Shootings On Forces Beyond Him |The Source

By Gideon Njoku

In his first reaction to the unbelievable blood bath at the Lekki Toll Gate, Tuesday evening, October, 20, 2020,Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, blamed the tragedy on forces beyond him.

The Governor, in a series of tweets, after visiting the injured in various hospitals, described Tuesday night as  tough. “This is the toughest night of our lives as Forces beyond our direct control  have moved to make dark notes in our history.”

He also gave the number of the injured, and the hospital where they are being treated.

The Governor was, however, silent on the number of the injured, promising to make a broadcast Wednesday.

Soldiers had inexplicably opened fire on #EndSARS protesters Tuesday evening, killing and injuring many, even as the protesting youths waved the Nigerian flag and sang the National Anthem.

Outrage has greeted the shootings with Hillary Clinton, former US Secretary of State, and former First Lady, calling on President Buhari and the the Nigeria Army to stop the killings of innocent protesters.

Many Lagosians had blamed the shootings on the Governor who, mid-day Tuesday, imposed a curfew on the state, beginning from 4.00pm. They said for a state like Lagos, with its population and transportation problems, a curfew from 4.00pm was short and impossible and a recipe for  disaster.

An angry mother, in an emotional video which has gone viral, called it wicked.

The Governor was to later extend the beginning of the curfew to 9.00pm.  But, even at that, the gun-toting soldiers did not wait till 9.00pm before storming the Lekki Toll Gate.

They began shooting by about 7.00pm.

Washing his hands off the Lekki incident, Sanwo-Olu said it was beyond him. He said it came from forces beyond his control. It is, however, common knowledge that no Governor has control over the Military.

Said Sanwo-Olu:

“This is the toughest night of our lives as forces beyond our direct control have moved to make dark notes in our history, but we will face it and come out stronger.

“I’ve just concluded visits to hospitals with victims of this unfortunate shooting incident in Lekki. It has taken me this long to make a statement because I have to prioritize the welfare of the victims of this very sad incident.

“There are currently 10 patients at the General Hospital, 11 at Reddington, and 4 at Vedic, with mild to moderate injuries while 2 are receiving intensive care. 3 patients have been discharged & we will continue to monitor and ensure all patients  get the best care.

“As the Governor of our state, I recognise the buck stops at my people, and I will work with the FG to get to the root of this unfortunate incident and stabilise all security operations to protect the lives of our residents.

I will give a state State Broadcast in the morning.”

Said the Governor:

ENDSARS Bloody Tuesday: Clinton, Amnesty Int, NBA Knock Buhari, Sanwo-Olu |The Source

By Tosin Olatokunbo

Former United States of America, Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton and Atiku Abubakar are among prominent individuals who have lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari for ordering the killing of ENDSARS protesters in Lekki, Lagos state.

The Amnesty International, AI has also described the killing as “excessive use of force” by soldiers of the Nigerian Army which occasioned  the“deaths of protesters,” in Lagos.

A dozen of protesters were killed by soldiers on Tuesday, bare hours after the state government announced a 24-hour curfew in the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has been trenchantly criticized for hurriedly imposing curfew in the entire state by prominent Nigerians who partly blame him for the cold blooded murder of peaceful protesters.

Apart from those killed, many other youths protesting against police brutality and bad governance are now lying critically ill after receiving gun shot from the soldiers.

But while speaking on the issue Clinton, a former First Lady of the US criticised the federal government for using lethal weapons on the protesting youths.

“I’m calling on @mbuhari and the @hqnigerianarmy to stop killing young #EndSARS protesters. #StopNigeriaGovernment,” Clinton said on her verified Twitter handle.

Former vice President Abubakar had earlier urge the federal government to dialogue with the angry protesters rather than ordering soldiers to kill them.

Also the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA said it has commence legal action against soldiers involved in the fatal shooting of protesters.

According to a statement signed by the National president of NBA, Olumide Apata, the body of lawyers said the Nigerian Army should immediately identify soldiers that killed the unarmed protesters in cold blood.

Nigerian Bar Association condemns the killing of peaceful #EndSARS protesters in Lagos by the Nigerian military’, the protesters’ act of misdemeanor of a breach of the curfew imposed by the Lagos State Government “did not warrant the use of live ammunition by the Nigerian military to confront otherwise peaceful, unarmed and defenseless protesters”.

The statement saidt, “The attention of the Nigerian Bar Association (“NBA”) has been drawn to the dastardly shooting and killing of #ENDSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos State by some unidentified men of the Nigerian Military on Tuesday, 20th October 2020. From news reports on the incident, many lives were lost in the attack while several others were injured during the melee that ensued.

“The NBA strongly condemns this act of recklessness and lawlessness by the security apparatus of the Government in what, based on reports available to us, appears to have been a carefully calculated and premeditated attack.

“The NBA states that even if the protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza were in breach of the curfew imposed by the Lagos State Government, such a misdemeanor or breach did not warrant the use of live ammunition by the Nigerian military to confront otherwise peaceful, unarmed and defenseless protesters. To be clear, the events of today are events that we should never see or consider as normal in any democracy. Against the backdrop of this ugly development, the NBA wishes to state as follows:

“The military high command is hereby requested to immediately identify and name the officers involved in this gross professional misconduct for immediate prosecution and dismissal in line with extant laws.

“The NBA shall immediately commence legal proceedings at all relevant fora (both locally and internationally) against the Nigerian Military and other relevant authorities, on behalf of the families of the victims, for abuse of power, disregard of rules of engagement and the infringement of the fundamental rights (including right to life) of the affected citizens.

” Given the degenerating nature of the crisis, an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (the highest decision-making body of the NBA) will be convened within the next 48 hours to review the state of the Nation and take other appropriate steps to decisively deal with the situation and prevent the nation from further going adrift.”

Akpata said the current situation in the country “calls for dynamic leadership and, as critical stakeholders in the Nigerian project”, calling on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) and others in authority  “to  show  uncommon  leadership  in  saving  the  situation,  instead  of  deploying  troops against defenseless citizens whom they  swore an oath to protect.”

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-olu said he has ordered an investigation into reports of “live ammunition fired at peaceful protesters” at the Lekki Toll Plaza Tuesday evening.

According to a  statement from the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, the governor urged residents to remain calm.

The statement said “There have been reports of shooting at the Lekki Toll Plaza, following the 24-hour curfew imposed on Lagos State to stop criminals who hid under the #EndSARS protests to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens.

“The State Government has ordered an investigation into the incident. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised the security agents not to arrest anyone on account of the curfew, which he urges residents to observe for the peaceful atmosphere we all cherish.”
