Miffed by criticisms that trailed its ineffectiveness, the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State has woken up. The security outfit has arrested some suspected killers of the traditional ruler of Ifon in Ose Local  Government , Oba Isreal Adeusi, the Olufon of Ifon.

Those arrested, whose identities are still being kept in secret, were picked up in forests around the vicinity where the incident occurred last Thursday.

The First  Class Monarch was returning from a meeting of the State’s Council of Obas when he was shot and killed  by unknown gunmen.

Commander of the Ondo Security Network Agency, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, also,  disclosed that four kidnapped victims were rescued during the pursuit of Oba Adeusi killers.

Adeleye said surveillance has been mounted in the bushes around the state and at the farm of Chief Olu Falae to prevent further attack on the farm by suspected herdsmen.

The Ondo Amotekun boss said the “Operation Clean Up” launched on Tuesday led to the arrest of over 20 suspects from various black spots in Akure and environs.

According to him, the Operation Clean Up was meant to take the war to the criminals in their various hide outs in the city or the forest.

“In the past few weeks, cases of kidnappings, armed robbery increased in Ondo state and men of the Amotekun Corps went into action in collaboration with other security agencies.

“We observed a downward trend after the ban of okada at night so we had to change tactics. That was why we launched the Operation Clean Up which is intense patrol across the nook and cranny of Akure and other parts of the state.

“The idea is to take the war to the kidnappers, criminals or wherever they are hiding and we have recorded huge success. Amotekun operates in the bush, forest, water and anywhere.”

The security Chief also revealed that  some cows were arrested while destroying  farms and the herders fled.

He said the cows would not be released until the owners reached amicable agreement with the farmers whose crops were destroyed.

Ekiti state Police Command and a Chinese engineering company are divided on how a Chinese that was kidnapped in the state last week was released.

The Chinese, abducted last Friday in Ado Ekiti, is a staff of a construction company handling the new Ado/ Iyin road project.

Sources close to the firm disclosed that a ransome of N100 million was paid before his release was secured.

But the State  Police Command  spokesman, Sunday Abutu said no ransome was paid, and that combined efforts of security personnel led to his release.

The Chinese was reportedly found along Igede/ Ilawe road where he was dumped after the kidnappers collected the alleged N100 million Ransome from the construction firm.

Governor Kayode Fayemi had earlier visited the construction company site to allay the fears of  workers and assured them of adequate security protection.

According to the Governor, armed soldiers are to be deployed to guard the expartriates to complement the police effort.

The police escort guarding the Chinese was shot dead by the abductors before he was whisked away.

Insecurity: Fayose Labels House Of Rep Members Toothless Bulldogs |The Source

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has laughed off the talks by members of the House of Representatives to summon President Muhammadu Buhari over the pathetic State of insecurity in the country.

Fayose, a strong critic of the President Buhari led All Progresssives Congress, (APC) Government, also labelled  the House of Representatives members as toothless bulldogs, saying they can only bark but can’t bite.

The two term former Governor stressed that House  members only exist on paper in the eyes of President Buhari.

Fayose made the claim while reacting to a resolution by the House of Representatives to invite the President to brief the House on the true state of security in Nigeria.

According to him, he would be surprised if Buhari honours their invitation.

The decision to summon President Buhari was taken at Tuesday’s plenary by members of the lower chamber.

The House considered a motion moved by members from Borno State on the recent killings of 43 rice farmers by Boko Haram insurgents.

The debate became rowdy after the Speaker, Gbajabiamila, said it would be inappropriate to invite President Buhari to disclose the actions being taken towards handling the security situation in the country.

Gbajabiamila described it as counter-productive.

Reacting to the development, Fayose, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, said: “I will be surprised if the President honours the House of Reps invitation.

“The National Assembly that is supposed to be representing the people should know by now that in the eyes of this President, they only exist on paper because they are mere toothless bulldogs.

“Some of those Rep members at the forefront of the invitation of the President to appear before the House should expect EFCC invitation, freezing of their accounts or arrest for plotting to bring down the legitimate government of the President. I warned.”

Kanu wife and Odemweingie

By Akinwale Kasali

Former Super Eagles forward, Peter Osaze Odemweingie, has called  out Amara Kanu, wife of former Super Eagles legend, Kanu Nwankwo, for always disturbing and chasing him with calls and chats.

The former Stoke City, Cardiff City, West Bromwich Albion Football Club of England striker, sounded a note of warning to her for always disturbing his phone.

Odemwingie called out Amara Kanu warning her to stop disturbing his phone. He says, she keeps telling him to “CHECK YOUR DM, CHECK YOUR DM”.

Odemweingie angrily went on to call her Delailah, saying they are trained not to talk to another man’s wife except they have permission from her husband.

The former CSKA Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow Football Club of Russia player also accused her of failing to raise her son well, saying she practices fake Christianity. He concluded saying he loves Papilo — Kanu – and asked Amara to wash her hands well.

The Edo State born former Bendel Insurance of Benin Football Club took to his Instagram page to lambast Ever.

“Wow, wow, this is too much of a drama, oh wow. By the way, it seems there’s something Osaze was also trying to say… oppoor… it’s too much oo.

“The reason why Nigeria is in this state. Too many want to be like America. God turned his back at America as things stand. Destruction is upon her.

“How can a wife of a legend like @kingkanu4 be chasing me for a chat relentlessly ( check ur DM check your DM ) na by force ? @amarakanu. Your husband has my number and it’s not in our culture to msg another man without asking your husband.

“Moreover u r wearing arsenal kit and he can ask them for advice about knee surgery because he also suffered from similar issues.

“Your son can’t have a cross on his neck and make those hand signs. That’s fake Christianity if you didn’t know ok. Our people selling their own to conform to African American.

“Those there have been modified by Hollywood and are no more Africans. They don’t even want to associate with Africa with their billions in accounts.

“How many of them visited Africa in the last 50 years ? Shouldn’t NBA all star match take place in Nigeria at least once? Shouldn’t they be interested to know where their ancestors came from ? Set your own trend Naija u r more special than America. #prayfornigeria

“#naija #nigeria @amarakanu why why why Amara ( Delailah). We love our strong man Papilo. Wash your hands well oh.

“And most importantly your hearts as I am preaching to many now. . Nigeria is more precious to God than America ”.

Reacting to the comments of Odemweingie, Amara took to her own Instagram page to clear the air.

She said her husband was aware of her several calls, chats and DM of Odemweingie.

“My husband is aware of everything. We only want you to interfere in some family Issues as a family and friend”, she wrote.

Ondo PDP Chides Gov Akeredolu Over Security Situation |The Source

By Ayodele Oni

The People’s Democratic Party,(PDP) in Ondo state has said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is insensitive to the plight of the people of the state.

Apparently reacting to the tense security situation in the state in the past one week during which a first class monarch was shot dead by suspected kidnappers, and the abduction of the wife of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the PDP noted that this period calls for sober reflection.

This was contained in a statement by the state PDP Publicity Secretary , Mr Kenedy Peretei, released in Akure on Tuesday.

Part of the statement reads: “At a time the people of Ondo State cannot sleep with the two eyes closed, the Governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has procured an award from the Association of Community Pharmacists in Nigeria.

“We say this is a misplacement of priority.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State Chapter, believes that the mood of the state does not support such an open display of insensitivity to the plight of the people.

“Just last week, Thursday, 26th November, 2020, a first class monarch, Oba Israel Adeusi, the Olufon of Ifon, was murdered by unknown gunmen. The Oba was on his way back to his domain, after attending Council of Obas meeting in Akure, the state capital.

“The Ondo State Council of Obas, traumatized by this sacrilegious occurrence that threw the entire state into panic mode is far from recovery; yet, our Governor, can fly more than 400 kilometers from Akure to Abuja to pop champagne in celebration of an award.

“On that same Thursday, a commercial Bank was robbed in broad day light at Ode-Irele for more than 45 minutes.

“Governor Akeredolu’s Chief of Staff’s wife, was also a victim of kidnap to complete the orgy of violence for that black Thursday.

“Whereas, the Chief of Staff’s wife was released within 24 hours in controversial circumstances as both Amotekun and the Police laid claim to how the woman was released.

“How Akeredolu can have the presence of mind to attend such an award ceremony when the state is in such trauma beats one’s imagination.

“Criminal activities of robbers, kidnappers and bandits have overwhelmed Ondo State dwellers that, life is no longer normal.

“People can no longer travel for even short distances within the state, without fear of being kidnapped or robbed.

“Everybody lives in fear. Like Akeredolu himself acknowledged at the Palace of Olufon when he paid a visit to commiserate with Ifon people.

“There is no justification for the whooping monthly 600 million naira taken as security vote by the Governor, if he does not know what to do to bring sanity to our state.

“Prior to the black Thursday, Chief Olu Falae’s farm at Ilu- Abo was attacked by herdsmen. The elder statesman, who has serially played host to herdsmen attack and kidnap cried for help without any kind of help reaching him.

“There have been many cases of kidnap, robberies and violence that were not reported by the media for obvious reasons.

“Instead of an award of honour, Akeredolu should be decorated with garlands of the state with the worst security challenges in the South West. That would have probably made more sense.

“As a matter of urgency, Governor Akeredolu should convene a security summit to look at ways to address the security situation in the state. There are Ondo State indigenes that can advise him on how to stem this dangerous tide.”

Even though not a few people are worried about the security situation in the State, not a few people say receiving of the award by the Governor from the Association of Pharmacists had nothing to do with the security situation in the State.

CBN Embarks On Desperate Economic Revival Measures |The Source

By Fola James

As part of ongoing efforts to spur economic growth, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has directed the release of excess cash reserve to banks in the country, through its issuance of 90-day Special window.

This is however in contrast to CBN’s disciplinary measures against commercial banks in the country who failed to meet the 27.5 CRR threshold in the last one year. No fewer than five banks have been hammered for failure to comply with the CRR, even when DMBs insist that their intermediation role has been greatly hampered by the instrument.

The CRR is the percentage of customers’ deposit expected to be domiciled with the apex bank.

Meanwhile, keen financial analysts insist that the intervention is the second in one week by the apex bank to push more liquidity into the economy, after it earlier retained the monetary policy rate, MPR or interest rate at 11.5 per cent during its Monetary Policy Committee meeting last week.

CBN’s desperate measures are necessary at this time to revive the economy which the federal government said has entered into recession, according to the apex bank’s monitors.

“The CBN on November 30, 2020, approved the release of the excess above regulatory minimum CRR of banks.

“This is part of measures to improve liquidity and support economic recovery through the increased extension of credit facilities to the real sector. This will be accomplished through the issuance of CBN Special Bills” the apex bank said in a letter to all the banks in the country on Tuesday.”

It warned banks to comply with the directive because “The CBN will continue to monitor banks’ utilisation of the liquidity injection from the CRR release to ensure optimal use for transactions that support economic recovery and growth.”

According to the apex regulator, the policy will be monitored for a 90-day tenure subject to renewal depending on the results within the first window.

The letter was signed by its Director, Banking Supervision, Mr. Bello Hassan.

You Can Now Receive Money From Abroad In Dollars, Says CBN |The Source

By Uche Mbah

Nigerians who usually receive money from their loved ones from the diaspora have cause to smile as they can now cash their remittances in dollars and other foreign currencies instead of the local currencies.

Money transfers through Western Union and Monegram  are usually dispensed in local currency alone. But a new Central bank of Nigeria, CBN, directive Monday indicates that they now have an option of receiving their money either in local or foreign currency.

9The CBN Issued a circular Monday confirming this.

In the circular, signed by the Bank’s Director of Trade and Exchange,   Ozoemena Nnaji, the bank said: “beneficiaries of Diaspora remittances through International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) shall henceforth receive such inflows in foreign currency (US dollar) through the designated bank of their choice.

“Such recipients of remittances may have the option of receiving these funds in foreign currency cash (US Dollars) or into their ordinary domiciliary account.”

The apex bank claimed it will deepen the forex market by providing more liquidity and make diaspora remittances transparent.   “In addition, these changes would help finance a future stream of investment opportunities for Nigerians in the Diaspora, while also guaranteeing that recipients of remittances would receive a market-reflective exchange rate.

“All authorised dealers and the general public should note that beneficiaries shall have unfettered access and utilisation of such foreign currency [roceeds, either in cash and/or in their domiciliary accounts,” the CBN said.

The CBN had issued a circular effective Monday adjusting the exchange rate by six Naira, and this has worsened the forex crisis. Naira depreciated to N500 a dollar, but after the diaspora remittances announcement, the exchange rate appreciated marginally to N497 per dollar in the parallel market.

Nwodo Denounces Forged Letter, Says Presidential Seat, Not For Sale |The Source

0

The President of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, the  apex Cultural Group of all Igbo Organisations, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has denounced a letter, purportedly written by the Miyetti Allah, congratulating, him for a job well-done during his tenure.

Nwodo is the outgoing President of Ohanaeze.

The letter also endorsed and congratulated Prof. George Obiozor, a front runner in the race to  succeed as the in-coming President, saying  Obiozor, having, been endorsed by Governor Hope Uzodinma, is acceptable to them, and would protect their interest.

The letter which has gone viral, has not only been dismissed as roguish, but one meant to cause mischief, and bad blood. Nwodo called it a huge joke, and insane.

The Presidency of Ohanaeze is rotated among the Igbo speaking States. Having gone round all the other States, it is now the turn of Imo State to produce. But this has brought so much rancor among the many interested in the office, that many Imolites fear it could degenerate into confusion and bad blood.

However, it worsened since when a group of Imo State stakeholders, led by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, an Elder Statesman, presented Obiozor as the consensus candidate for the office.

That presentation was met by protests among the other aspirants, including Dr. Chris Asoluka, Chief Joe Nwaogu, and a couple of others. They said the election must follow laid down procedures and protocols which Nwodo’s adoption does not meet. They insist that everybody must be given equal opportunity to undergo screening and interviews.

That has now been agreed upon.

But the situation has  become desperate and reached a new low with the viral rogue Miyetti Allah letter to Nwodo.

There has been a debate, since Monday, over whether the letter was genuine or not. However, opinion is that it was meant to drag Governor Uzodinma into the fray, discredit Prof Obiozor’s status and reputation, and present him as a candidate of the Hausa/Fulani.

Following, Nwodo’s reaction, signed by Chief Emeka Attamah, his Special Assistant.

“Our attention has been drawn to a highly fallacious and spurious letter    purported to have been written by the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural organization, to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo.

The said letter congratulated Chief Nwodo for his able leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural body and enjoined him to ensure that Professor George Obiozor from Imo State emerges as his successor as it is the turn of the state to produce the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

They claimed that discussions with the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, indicated that Ambassador Obiozor would protect the interest of the Fulani as President General, and as a recompense for Chief Nwodo’s expected role in making this happen, they had forwarded his name to the presidency for an appointment. What insult ! What impudence !

If not for the currency the letter has gained having gone viral in the social media, one would’ve ignored it as a laughable piece of junk fit for the trash can, but this time it is a joke gone too far, the discerning public having known the image and integrity of Chief Nwodo who has had a successful and unblemished public service career as a two-time Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

So, to totally debunk and deflate the despicable and malicious, half-baked smear campaign, the following clarifications are important :

  1. The vexatious letter was dated far back in August and Chief Nwodo’s attention was drawn to it only yesterday in the social media. He never saw it before then as none was sent to him.
  2. The home address written on the letter suggests that Chief Nwodo’s house is at Golf Estate whereas all those who know him know he has never lived there, thereby casting a lot of doubt over the authenticity of the letter.
  3. It is either that the official letterhead of Miyetti Allah was stolen or cloned and used by the purveyor of the letter without the knowledge of the Fulani group or, if the signature of the National Secretary of Miyetti on the letter is real, then there is an inexplicable ploy by some people to interfere in the election of the incoming leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
  4. The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not for sale and nobody can manipulate the choice of Ndigbo and the outcome of the election.
  5. Chief Nwodo has never and will never attend any meeting where the people of Imo State will determine who their flag bearer will be, and Ohanaeze will conduct election for all those who indicate interest and purchase the form for it.
  6. Chief Nwodo has a pedigree he is proud of and is desirous of protecting. He has made a name for himself through dint of hard work, sagacious social interactions and unequalled intellectual and transparent service and leadership.

It is, therefore, preposterous for anybody to imagine, believe or imply  that Chief Nwodo requires the recommendation of any socio-cultural group for him to be considered for an appointment in Nigeria. That alone should bring out clearly the absurdity, incongruity and absolute imbecility of the badly conceived and baseless letter. It is said that ‘Falsus in uno, Falsus in omnibus’, false in one thing, false in everything.

  1. If, perchance, this is the evil machination of any would-be aspirant or a group with vested interest, then, it has certainly back fired and is of no effect.
  2. The general public should, therefore, discountenance the letter and see it as the pitiable handiwork of unsuccessful detractors because Chief Nwodo is resolute about leaving behind a viable and people chosen leadership for Ohanaeze Ndigbo and has sworn to do that unabashed.”
