SERG Endorses Obiozor for Ohanaeze President General |The Source

Professor George Obiozor

A Pan-Igbo sociopolitical pressure group, the South East Revival Group, (SERG), has declared support for the candidature of a Nigerian Professor and diplomat, Ambassador George Obiozor, for the position of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The President and National Coordinator of the group, Chief Willy Ezugwu, in a statement issued in Abuja today urged all Igbo groups and individuals to unanimously throw their weight behind Amb. Obiozor.

According to the group, “looking at the local and international pedigree of Ambassador George Obiozor, a Professor and Diplomat of unimpeachable character, Ndigbo should not search further for the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

“As a former Nigerian Ambassador to Israel from 1999 to 2003 and later Nigerian Ambassador to the United States from 2004 to 2008, he has enough clout for the job at this very important time in the history of Ndị Igbo.

“As a member of the academia and researcher, he studied at best academic institutions across the globe.

“Also in the course of his career, Ambassador Obiozor served as the director general of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and the high commissioner to Cyprus.

“More importantly, he is a statesman who understands both Nigerian and international politics. He has the needed capacity to strike a balance between national interest and the needs of the Igbo speaking people worldwide, especially as Ndigbo repositions for Presidency in 2023.

“Thus far, in view of the quest to produce the next Nigerian President of South East extraction, our search for a credible and acceptable Ohanaeze leader stopped at the doorsteps of Ambassador George Obiozor.

“We believe that with his exposure, he will carry all Igbo leaders along in his administration and will not thread on the selfish path of some leadership before him”, the SERG stated

PDP S/West Caretaker Committee Overrules Ondo Over Suspension Of Members |The Source

By  Ayodele Oni

South-West Zonal Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has nullified the suspension of five chieftains of the party in Ondo State.

The Zonal leadership pointed out that the suspension by the State Working Committee of six elders of the party, fell short of procedures as laid down in the party’s Constitution.

The Ondo state PDP had, last week, announced the suspension of six leaders of the party for visiting former Governor Ayo Fayose in his Lagos residence without approval.

Those suspended are Oyedele Ibini, Lad Ojomo, Ayo Fadaka, Rasheed Elegbeleye and  Ebenezer Alabi

According to a letter to the State  Chairman  of the party, the Zonal Caretaker Committee took the decision at its meeting in Abeokuta on Monday.

In a letter to the Chairman,  Fatai Adams, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, called for restrain and urged the chairman to always ensure that his actions were in consonance with all extant laws of the party.

The letter, signed by the Zonal Secretary of the party,   Daisi Akintan, dated December 28, 2020, was copied to the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee,  Senator Bukola Saraki and others.

Part of the letter reads: “Sequel to the suspension of the following leaders of the party in Ondo State; Chief Oyedele Ibini, Hon. Lad Ojomo, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, Hon. Rasheed Elegbeleye and Hon. Ebenezer Alabi, and their subsequent appeals to the Zonal Committee, in line with Section 61(1) of the party’s Constitution  (2017 as amended) in the grounds that they were neither queried nor given a fair hearing before they were suspended, the Committee is therefore compelled to act with immediate effect.

“Consequent upon the above, the Committee diligently considered their appeals severally, and relying on Section 57(6), which states that ‘any decision taken against a member who has not been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any opportunity of defending himself, shall be null and void.’

“It was confirmed that they were arbitrarily suspended by the State Working Committee without any preliminary hearing as demanded by the Constitution.

“Therefore this action falls short of procedures as laid down by the party’s Constitution.

“We wish to advise that you exercise restraint and ensure always that all your actions must be in consonance with all extant laws of the party, especially now that the party is trying to recover from the defeat suffered at the last gubernatorial election in the state.

“Please note that it is inauspicious for the party to embark on any action that is capable of causing disaffection, disordancy, dissilusionment and despondency among members.

“You are, therefore, advised to unite all tendencies within the party, and make them work together in preparation to winning future elections.”

Violate Covid 19 Laws And Go To Jail, Ondo Govt Warns Worshippers |The Source

Rotimi Akeredolu - Ondo Communal Clash

By Ayodele Oni

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Covid 19 in Ondo state has warned that violators of night curfew imposed in the wake of fresh outbreak of the pandemic would be dealt with according to law.

The committee stressed the need for people of the state to celebrate the end of the year with a deep sense of responsibility, and a strong commitment to safety and resist any call by anyone, no matter how highly placed, for them to disobey government health order.

Reacting to the call by the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) to disregard the State  Government  curfew which starts from 10 pm to 4am, and attend cross over service in their various Churches, the committee warned that violators put themselves at the risk of COVID-19 and its consequences as well as legal penalties, including fines and jail terms as specified in the Ondo State COVID-19 laws.

Chairman of the committee, Prof Adesegun Fatusi, in a statement in Akure on Tuesday, pointed out that “COVID-19 is primarily a health issue, and NOT a religious issue. It is, therefore, not in the domain or area of competence of any religious group and for CAN leadership to indicate that technical decisions on health matters cannot be validly made by the state government without first consulting with the Association is implausible and absurd.

“The order of a curfew from 10.00 pm to 4.00 pm is a subsisting public health order that has been in operation for several months and aimed fundamentally at safeguarding the health of the citizens.

“The decision to maintain the curfew through and beyond 31st December 2020 in Ondo State was taken jointly with a deep sense of responsibility by a body of leading health experts at a meeting convened by the Inter-ministerial committee on Thursday, 24 December 2020, and involving the leadership of the major health professional groups.

“Government has the primary and primal responsibility to protect and safeguard the health of her people and the Ondo State Dangerous Infectious Diseases (COVID-19 Emergency Prevention Regulation) signed into law on 31st March 2020 empowers the Governor to take relevant actions to curb the spread of the COVID-19, including restriction of movements.

“The Governor does not need to consult with CAN or any religious or civil group before exercising the power that is duly vested in him by the law of the land.

“It is dangerously misleading for anyone in a position of leadership in the civil society, including religious leaders, who are expected to be role models by the tenets of their callings and the clear teachings of the sacred books that they are called to uphold, to openly call on citizens to disobey government’s public health orders made to ensure the health of people, with the implication of putting the health of the people at risk.

“The evening and night of December 31st marks the end of the year for all people and not for any religious group and in the face of the threat of the second wave of COVID-19 in Nigeria, all individuals and groups – whatever their religious leaning may be – have a duty to celebrate the events marking the entry into a new year sensibly, responsibly and safely to ensure that they do not put the health of other citizens at risk.”

Arewa Youths Call For Arrest Of Bishop Kukah |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has called for the immediate arrest of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah over his allegation nepotism against  the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The AYCF also called for Bishop Kukah’s prosecution for what it called his “treasonable felony against the Nigerian state.”

It would be recalled that while delivering his Christmas message, Bishop Kukah had alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s acts of nepotism could have led to a coup if he was a non-northern Muslim.

In a Statement issued Monday by the  AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima, the Group condemned Bishop Kukah’s use of nepotism as a weapon of calumny against the Government and people of Nigeria.

The Group called on the Federal Government to place Bishop Kukah on a watchlist for this open attempt to “set the South against the North in order to destabilize our country and further complicate matters.”

Shettima stressed that it took exception to  “Kukah’s latest role in devil’s advocacy, as the North struggles to restore peace and enduring security in the region and indeed Nigeria.”

The statement noted that “such a reckless statement by Kukah betrays something much more sinister against both the North and the nation as a whole because Nigeria is at a stage that it requires responsible advice for attaining peace and stability, not deliberate attempt to mischievously compound our problems”.

“If Kukah wants to play politics, he should not do so in the pulpit and he should keep the Bishop’s office aside and chose any Nigerian political party platform to contest President in 2023 and stop all the pretences,” the statement added.

“The statement reminded Kukah of the rough road tread by democracy heroes to rid the nation of military dictatorship at a time when he was nowhere in sight.

“We will not allow opportunists who did make any contribution to scuttle the democracy achieved through the our sweat and toil and the sacrifice of our liberty,” Shettima said in the statement.

The Catholic Bishops’ Association, and several other associations and people are, however, standing rock solid behind Kukah.

MURIC Blasts Bishop Kukah For Criticising President Buhari’s Administration |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Mixed reactions have trailed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah’s Christmas message which criticised  the policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The Presidency said that Bishop Kukah is  bent on fanning the embers  of hatred and disunity among Nigerians against the Buhari Government .

In same vein, the Muslim Right Concern, MURIC, an Islamic Group lambasted and criticised Bishop Kukah over the attack on Buhari’s Administration for saying that there would have been a coup had any non-Muslim occupied the Nigerian seat of power.

MURIC’s statement issued on December 28 reads: “We are shocked to our marrows by the vitriolic attack launched yesterday by Rev. Hasan Kukah against Islam as a religion. The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese referred to Islam as a violent religion. He also surreptitiously called for a coup against a democratically elected government of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he falsely accused of nepotism.

“According to him, ‘…There is no way any non-Northern Muslim President could have done a fraction of what President Buhari has done by his nepotism and gotten away with it. There would have been a military coup…’ In other words there could have been a coup if a non-Northerner had practised nepotism like Buhari.

“This is a most irresponsible pronouncement and we will not allow it to go unchallenged. Kukah’s statement is reckless, inflammatory and unguarded. It is the most egregious, luciferous, serpentine and diabolical statement of the year 2020. Hasan Mathew Kukah is ululating from the wrong side of the pulpit. Kukah is in the habit of demonizing and demarketing any president who happens to be a Muslim.

“In particular, we are most disappointed that such a heavily prejudiced and explosive statement is coming from the secretary of Nigeria’s Peace Committee. His behavior is consistently inconsistent with his status.

“Kukah referred to Islam as violent but his fellow faithful, Gana, has been training terrorists and killing Muslims in Benue for years. Kukah is fully aware of the creed of those who waylay travellers in the Plateau region, killing all Muslims among them and dumping them in the numerous ponds and wells of the Plateau landscape, never to be seen again. We would never have kno wn but for the General Alkali affair. How can those who train and arm cold-blooded killers turn around to call Islam a violent religion?

“Kukah lives in the heart of Islam and he has never been attacked. Kukah also knows how generous and charitable the people of Sokoto have been to him. Had it not been you had been good. This kind of allegation should have come from someone else, from somewhere else. Kukah has bitten the finger that fed him.

“But how dare you mock the North? Are you not part of that geographical entity? Is this the same man who claimed he wanted to rescue 10 million almajiris? Thank God we stopped your circus show. You deride the North but pretend you want to ‘rescue’ Northern children.

“You have demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that you have a disabled sense of belonging. “We can understand Kukah’s frustration. Import duty waivers on every imported good, including private jets, are no longer available. Neither are billion naira contracts at the snap of a finger. A new Sheriff is in town. This is why Kukah has turned to a blackmailer nulli secundus.

“Kukah calls for a coup because blackmail is not working with Buhari. But is Kukah aware that it will be a Christian-inspired forceful change of government? What was the result of the first of such in the country? Even Nzeogwu will turn in his grave at the very thought of a church-motivated coup. “It is unimaginable that such venom is being emited during Christmas when all are expected to give love. Nigerians can see what is happening. We send messages of love to Bishop Kukah at Christmas. He responds with pent-up anger, contempt and hate-filled emotion. Is this proper?

“Kukah’s allegation of nepotism against PMB holds no water. Buhari’s appointments by geo-political zone as published by a leading online newspaper has debunked Kukah’s verbal halitosis. The analysis showed that Buhari’s North West got 37 appointments, North East received 29, North Central secured 21, South West had 63, South East received 25 while South South got 24. South West benefited most. But is Buhari a Yoruba man? He gave the South West almost double what he gave his own North West. Is that nepotism? We challenge Kukah and his merchants of falsehood to provide their own data.

“This means that the North as a whole which Kukah accused of hegemony and for which reason Buhari is being accused of nepotism, got 87 appointments while the South received 112. All the false propaganda and allegation of nepotism against Buhari fell like a pack of cards with this analysis. Kukah’s diatribe is therefore sheer tramadolised religiousity. His allegations are as unfounded as they are baseless.

“It further goes to prove that allegations of northern hegemony, caliphate domination, Islamisation and fulanisation are not more than a myth, a mirage, a phantom. They are mere slogans adopted by political shenanigans, ethnic charlatans and religious demagogues to deceive gullible Nigerians.

“Kukah knows those who engage in favouritism but he has chosen to be a pot calling the kettle black. Rev. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) inadvertently revealed the special favours rendered by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to Christians when he was president. The revelation was made at Orita Mefa Baptist Church, Ibadan, on Saturday, November 21, 2020 during the funeral service of Obasanjo’s two-term Pastor, Rev. S. T. Ola Akande.

“The CAN president poured encomiums on Obasanjo for favouring Christians during his regime. Among the special favours mentioned were the mass land allocation to the Baptist mission at Kubwa, Abuja; another land allocation to the Baptist in Festac town, Lagos; yet another land allocation to the church in Satellite town and another at highbrow Ikoyi, also for the church. No Muslim leader or Islamic organization has accused Obasanjo of favouritism to date. Perhaps Kukah thinks God was asleep during the regime of Obasanjo. But the garrulous bishop now has the temerity to remind Nigerians that God does not sleep.

“Certain people are unhappy with a situation whereby they can no longer walk freely into Aso Rock for the low-hanging apples. They therefore want a forceful change of government. But rather than wait on the straight for the next election as democrats, they prefer to take the bend. #EndSARS has failed. They must blackmail the president into submission. Kukah’s reference to a coup is a Satanic innuendo.

“We are aware that civilians have always been involved in coups in the past. Kukah’s interest is therefore not something new. But why is Kukah just inciting it? He should be man enough to spearhead it. Go ahead, Kukah, plan a coup. Who knows? You can be vice president. Dare to struggle. Dare to win”.

His Lordship Moses Chikwe

By Chidi Onyewuchi

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Owerri Diocese, His Lordship Moses Chikwe has been kidnapped.

Chikwe was kidnapped on Sunday December, 27, 2020.

He is the auxiliary Bishop, and billed to succeed the the retiring Archbishop of the Diocese, His Grace, Dr  Anthony Obinna.

It is not public yet the circumstances under which he was kidnapped, but his abductors has not made any contact with either the Church or his family.

Without doubt, Bishop Chikwe’s kidnap is the most high profile abduction, so far, in Imo State.

State of the Nation: Catholic Bishops Stand With Kukah |The Source

By Uche Mbah

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), on Monday, said it stood by Bishop Matthew Kukah’s Christmas Day message where he told truth to power in no uncertain terms, and which has generated criticisms and encomiums form different quarters.

Kukah had said that Nigeria was on the verge of becoming a failed state and that if the President was not Buhari, there could have been a coup.

In his now controversial Christmas message, titled: ‘A Nation in Search of Vindication’, Kukah had alleged that the Federal  Government  owes the nation an explanation as to where it is headed “as we seem to journey into darkness.

“The spilling of this blood must be related to a more sinister plot that is beyond our comprehension. Are we going to remain hogtied by these evil men or are they gradually becoming part of a larger plot to seal the fate of our country?”, he queried.

In a press release made available to journalists in Abuja, the National Director of CSN’s Social Communication, Fr. Mike Umoh,  their attention has been drawn  to attacks on the Bishop by those claiming he is out to instigate violence and put a cog in the wheel of unity of federating states of the country with his message. According to Umoh,  with the heightened security and economic challenges facing the country, the Catholic Church in Nigeria had no option than to stand by Kukah’s position on the state of the nation.

“We are quite aware of the 2020 Christmas Message by our revered Bishop Hassan Kukah and the enormous space it has enjoyed on social media and in the public sphere.

“As expected, the agents of evil have gathered to attack the person of the Bishop and to discredit the simple obvious truth of the message. This is the stock in trade of evil people.

“However, they often succeed when good people –Christians- choose to do nothing. We are therefore calling attention to this new development so that we can all rise in unison and stand for truth.

“The situation in Nigeria no longer allows anyone to sit on the fence, indifference is now a greater form of sin. Everyone must choose and stand up for what he/she believes in.

“The truth about our nation is also that there are only two parties now existing: the good and the evil, the oppressed and the oppressor, the suffering people and the benefiting government officers and their families.”

Umoh called on Nigerians to stand in support of the truth and warned  against falling for the whims and caprices of players of the religious and tribal card even at the expense of the general good of the nation.

Oshiomhole Planning To Unseat Obaseki Through The Judiciary, DG Shaibu Alleges |The Source

Philip Shaibu

By Akinwale Kasali

Philip Shaibu,  Edo State Deputy Governor, has alleged plot by former All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, to Unseat Governor Godwin Obaseki, using the court.

Shaibu stressed that the former Labour President is planning to overturn the victory of Governor Obaseki at the September 2020 Governorship election through the Judiciary.

But Shaibu, during an empowerment program for Afemai Youths in Ogbona and Jattu respectively at the weekend, reaffirmed confidence in the judiciary and President Muhammadu Buhari to protect the nation’s democracy and the collective will of Edo people and their mandate.

Adams Oshiomhole
Oshiohmole:

According to Shaibu, Oshiomhole had, at a public function at his Iyambo residence, during the Yuletide, declared that he was instrumental to the Supreme Court victory of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State that unseated Emeka Ihedioha and will do the same to upturn the popular victory of Obaseki in Edo State, In favour of the APC Governorship Candidate at the Polls, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Shaibu expressed disappointment over Oshiomhole’s vituperation on the clear victory of Obaseki, stressing that making unguarded utterances to indict the integrity of the Judiciary and to redeem his public image remains ridiculous.

Shaibu in a statement through his Media Aide, Benjamin Atu, urged Edo people, especially the youths to take their destiny into their hands by securing Nigeria democracy and the political future of young people.

He further charged youths to desist from making themselves available as instruments of destruction but rather add value to their lives, reassuring that the Edo State Government is committed to assisting and collaborating with young people in the state to make Edo State great again.

According to the Deputy Governor, “The Nigeria Judiciary is known to be amongst the best in the world, therefore, Oshiomhole’s utterance is a mere crying of a beaten baby and he must be made aware that Edo is not Imo State.

“Now that he has vowed to test the collective will of the good people of Edo State by attempting to subvert their will through a questionable judicial arrangement, he will obviously not to be tolerated by the managers of our judiciary.”

He added: “The victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki is a victory for Nigeria’s democracy and it was the first election in Nigeria where all political parties came together to vote for one candidate for the overall development of the state.” “Oshiomhole desirability to create tension to destabilize the state and make it ungovernable should be resisted by the good people of Edo State.
