Pan Yoruba Group Urges Akintoye To Suspend Relationship With Igbo Groups Over IPOB, Iwuayanwu

By Akinwale Kasali

A Pan Yoruba Group, All Yoruba Democratic Movements, AYDM, has  condemned Emmanuel Iwuayanwu, for labeling the Yoruba ‘Rascals’.

The Group said Iwuayanwu’s statement is genocidal and further authenticates the widespread reports that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB plans to attack Lagos.

The group said the IPOB hate project has been extended abroad where Yoruba professionals like Adeniran Ariyo, a world renowned cardiologist has been singled out for attack by IPOB members.

AYDM called on the Lagos State Government and all South West Governments to set up an extensive Intelligence Corp to fish out IPOB terrorists, their collaborators including drug barons and manufactures of fake drugs who provide illicit funds for the terrorist group.

It stated that  IPOB is a Nazist organisation, and the Yoruba have the historical role to protect territories from Lagos to Jebba, to Akoko Edo and to Itsekiri territories in Delta State.

But Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo in a statement distanced Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who is the Chairman of  the Ohanaeze Council of Elders from the allegation that he called the Yoruba rascals or that the Igbo would deal with them. Ohanaeze Insisted the allegation is a lie from the pit of hell and said  those he called political rascals, in his speech in Awka at the one year anniversary celebration of Governor Soludo of Anambra State, were those who physically attacked the Igbo in Lagos during the General Elections. Iwuanyanwu, the statement said, instead, called for unity between the two ethnic groups, and said the Yoruba and Igbo “are not at war.”

IPOB has also denied it had any plan to attack Lagos or any other Yoruba State.

But in a Statement by its Secretary General,  Popoola Ajayi, AYDM stated that, “The Yoruba are clearly not the aggressors. IPOB, Chief Iwuanyanwu and their supporters are the aggressors. We promise them that  from Yoruba people there would be proportional response to any attacks on Yorubaland or any Yoruba individual since this seems to be the new project of IPOB, Iwuanyanwu and their collaborators”.

It, however urged the Igbo to go about their businesses without fear. The statement said: “We urge Igbo in Yorubaland to go about their businesses. If Lagos or any part of Yorubaland is eventually attacked by IPOB, the Igbo Nation should know who to hold responsible for the consequences.

“During the #ENDSARs protests, Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB leader specifically asked IPOB to attack Yoruba barracks and even kill Yoruba State Governors. The statements by Iwuanyanwu and IPOB is in furtherance of Nazism being extended to Yorubaland.

“We draw the attention of the Local and International community to the genocide plat by IPOB and its supporters including Iwuanyanwu. While we recognise that there are moderate Igbo who do not share the genocidal plot of IPOB, we are mindful of the fact that IPOB is a dominant organisation in the South East which rules the area with fear and bullying but lacking wisdom nor knowledge.

“IPOB is armed and has been involved in mindless killings of innocent people in the South East. It makes sense to be alert when such an irresponsible and callous organisation makes such a threat.”

AYDM said the positions of Iwuanyanwu and IPOB are the same and have  shown clearly that Yoruba people who innocently drum support for alliance with the South East are doing so in vain.

‘‘The Yoruba leadership has always bent backwards to work with the South East but at each point, we have ended up regretting, The latest being the support given to Afenifere to Mr Peter Obi who up till now has not even spoken to thank the group nor show solidarily to Lagos people who voted for his party, the Labour Party. In his parochial mindset, he would attributes his victory in Lagos to his people. Little wonder he visited only Ladipo spareparts market after the Presidential election.

“You cannot behead yourself to satisfy the thirst of a people whose primordial aim is to live and witness your peril”, the group said

“We are aware that some Yoruba people are already being killed by IPOB in the South East. One of them was an Immigration officer who was shot dead by IPOB in Anambra State two weeks ago on account of his ethnic origin”, the statement signed by AYDM Secretary General said.

CNPP Urges Buhari, Security Agencies To Investigate CJN’s London Trip To Save Nigerian Judiciary

Chief Willy Ezugwu

Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate and make public their findings on the rumoured visit of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola to the United Kingdom for medical reasons and the allegation that it was in disguise to meet with President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London.

The CNPP, in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, said this has become necessary to preserve the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola was reported to have been sighted in London, United Kingdom, “pretending: to be a physically-challenged old man, for a secret meeting with the President-elect.

According to the Peoples Gazette, an online news medium, Supreme Court sources said Ariwoola’s disguising was a clandestine preparation for a meeting with Tinubu.

The CNPP noted that despite the denials of the plans to hold such meetings by the two personalities, “the integrity of both the chief judicial personality in Nigeria and that of the President-Elect have been called to question, especially in view of the widespread criticisms of the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s rulings on political matters since the 2023 general elections.

“The Supreme Court under the current leadership has given several verdicts on political litigations in recent times which put the integrity of the apex court to question before this very damaging report by an online news portal on the alleged planned meeting between the CJN and the President-elect in London.

“Allowing the matter to slide without a public inquiry will be a recipe for breach of national security in the event that the Supreme Court rulings fail to favour some parties in election litigations currently before various election petition tribunals, especially the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal under the direct jurisdiction of the CJN.

“The CNPP therefore calls on President Muhammadu Buhari, Security Agencies, and all relevant stakeholders to institute open investigation into the reported planned meeting between CJN Ariwoola and President-elect Tinubu to lay to rest the controversy in the interest of justice and national security.

“This is imperative as the level of distrust, religious and tribal colourations permeating topics among supporters of different political camps in the country, especially now that the most damaging allegation on the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary became a media affair, should be taken very seriously to avoid a national catastrophy.

“It is also of national importance to ensure that the matter is openly investigated and the report made public as most Nigerian politicians and citizens who are aggrieved by the outcome of the 2023 general elections as conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may resort to self-help in the event of perceived biases in the judicial pronouncements on the outcome by the tribunals.

“The CNPP then urges politicians to caution their supporters on the use of ethnicity and religion as campaign tools. Ethnic profiling is dangerous to peace and unity of the country and must be stopped.

“We therefore call on security agencies to ensure that all persons who were involved in inciting comments before, during, and after the 2023 general elections are prosecuted to serve as deterrence to others, otherwise the individuals and groups will remain bad examples and reference cases in the near future”, the CNPP warned.

Diya’s Death Shocking, Regrettable, Says Uzodimma

Diya and Hope

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has said that the passing of the former Chief of General Staff of Nigeria during the military leadership of late General Sani Abacha, Lt Gen Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (rtd), is both shocking and regrettable.

Diya, according to a statement from the family by Barr. Oyesinmola Diya, died in the wee hours of Sunday, March 26, 2023.

Diya would have been 79 years old on April 3.

Governor Uzodimma said that with Diya’s death, Nigeria has lost, yet, another professional soldier, whose experience garnered over many years, services and advice, are badly needed in the country today.

A statement by Oguwike Nwachuku, Uzodimma’s Chief Press Secretary/ Media Adviser, said the Governor commiserated, not just the Diya family and his Odogbolu community in Ogun State where he impacted lives so much, but also the government and people of Ogun State, the Nigerian military and the federal government, over the loss.

The Governor who said the good works of Diya are there for all to see prayed God to grant his soul a peaceful repose and to those he left behind to mourn his passing, the fortitude to bear the huge loss.

Between 1993 and 1997, Diya held critical positions in the then Military Government of Abacha such as Chief of Defence Staff and later, Chief of General Staff, an equivalent of the civilian Vice President and Second in Command to Abacha.

Prior to Abacha’s death, Diya was one of the few senior military officers under the junta’s regime undergoing trial for alleged treasonable felony and coup plot to unseat Abacha in 1997. He escaped being shot by sheer providence following Abacha’s sudden death.

From January 1984 to August 1985, Diya was also Military Administrator of Ogun State.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, and the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, have agreed to work closely with relevant stakeholders as regular maritime agency inches towards developing a regulatory framework to provide operational guidelines for Submarine Cable and Pipeline Operators in Nigeria.

Officials of both agency in Lagos, reached this agreement at a pre Audit meeting on submarine cable regulation.

The Director General of NIMASA Dr Bashir Jamoh, OFR, who chaired the meeting, which also had the Director General of Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) Mr Dasuki Arabi in attendance, noted that the Agency is committed to the Ease of doing Business while implementing International Conventions which Nigeria has ratified and domesticated.

He noted that with Nigeria now a destination for global communication players, the time has come to prevent unregulated underwater cable laying, which might become hazardous to shipping.

According to him, “It is worthy to note that marine cable laying has been ongoing for over two decades in Nigerian waters. Our focus is to ensure safety of navigation of shipping in Nigerian waters with all these underwater cables being laid.

NIMASA is actually developing the guidelines to regulate submarine cable operators in line with the provisions of United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, UNCLOS; which we have ratified and NIMASA is the Agency of Government in Nigeria responsible for its implementation. We do not just implement laws; we consult. Where the responsibility of an Agency stops, that is where the responsibilities of another Agency starts. Collaboration is a key component of ease of doing business in the best interest of the country and we will work closely with the NCC to achieve this”.

On his part, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta who was represented by the Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement, Efosa Idehen noted that the stakeholders’ dialogue strategy adopted by NIMASA in developing the guidelines would ensure a win-win situation urging NIMASA management to include the Ministry of Justice, a request NIMASA DG immediately granted.

Also speaking at the meeting was the Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms Mr Dasuki Arabi, who commended NIMASA and NCC for adopting effective Inter-Agency collaboration to avert a potential challenge for the country in the future.

NIMASA had notified submarine and cable operators in Nigeria of a soon to be implemented regulatory guideline for submarine cables and pipelines in Nigeria, in line with the provisions of UNCLOS. NIMASA and the NCC agreed to identify and resolve areas of likely regulatory overlaps, ensuring a regulatory framework based on consultation to engender attainment of Nigeria’s digital economy transformation.

Officials of the Federal Ministry of Environment and representatives of Submarine Cable operators in Nigeria were also at the meeting.

Yoruba Are Political Rascals – A Rebuttal By Ohanaeze, Says Yoruba, Igbo Not At War

0
Emmanuel Iwuayanwu

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted strongly to the report on Social Media Platforms, that Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, its Chairman, Council of Elders, called the Yoruba political rascals, and threatened that the Igbo would deal with them.

Chief Iwuanyanwu spoke in Awka at an event to mark the one year anniversary in office of the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo.

The Ohanaeze statement dismissed the allegations against Iwuanyanwu as a lie from the pit of hell. And said such allegations could only have come from  deranged minds, desirous of promoting ethnic tension and enemity between the two friendly tribes.

It explained that with regards to the tension created during the Presidential and Governorship elections where the Igbo were under serious physical attack by thugs, in Lagos, Iwuanyanwu advised the Igbo to relax as there is no war between the Igbo and their Yoruba brothers and sisters. He added that those who attacked them during the elections do not represent the Yoruba but political rascals.

Following is the full text of the statement.

“Our attention has been drawn to the fake news making the rounds that the Chairman, Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, CFR (Ahaejiagamba) referred to the Yoruba as political rascals.

“This is a typical falsehood, fabricated by social media entrepreneurs, decorated with wings, expanded with venoms, injected with ethnic nuances, and propelled to fly to various corners, fronts, and heights in order to create inter-ethnic mistrust between the age-long partners in the social, cultural, religious and economic development of Nigeria. Indeed it is a lie from the pit of hell.

“Speaking in Awka, Anambra State on Saturday at the event to mark the one year in office of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra state, Chief Iwuanyanwu drew the attention of the audience and the general public to the fact that Ndigbo and Yoruba people are neither quarreling nor fighting, implying that the Yoruba are a friendly group of people.

According to Iwuanyanwu “I want to tell those in Lagos to realize that there is no war between us and the Yoruba”, adding that “those who attacked Ndigbo in Lagos recently are rascals who should be arrested”

This has mischievously been twisted to imply that “Yoruba people are political rascals and that we will fight them”.

“This is ‘quel dommage!’  It is from the insidious minds that wish to create a rift between the Igbo and the Yoruba ethnicities.

At any time in history, there is often a tug of war between two major groups; mostly the good people with conscience on one hand and the devious insidious minds on the other. However, the moral force of the godly will always countervail the unconscionable. This helps to keep the world in an ontological equilibrium.

“So, as much as some mischief makers will twist the speech by Iwuanyanwu, the truth remains that Ahaejiagamba holds the Yoruba in very high esteem and he used the Awka event to express it.

“The emphasis is that we must not attribute the ugly event in Lagos to the good people of Yoruba ethnicity, rather, it was the handiwork of rascals, hooligans, spivs, charlatans, miscreants, and dregs of Lagos society.

It is important to highlight that Chief Iwuanyanwu is a renowned patriotic detribalized Nigerian. He enjoyed the fidelity, confidence, solidarity, and support of the Yoruba when he was in active business and politics.

“He would recall with deep emotional attachment the cordial relationship he had with the Yoruba when he contested for the presidency of Nigeria in 1992; similarly as an Executive Chairman/Publisher of Champion Newspaper Limited, Chairman of Oriental Airlines Limited, Chairman of Oriental Shipping Lines Ltd; among others.

Iwuanyanwu in all his private and public discussions has often commended the profound Yoruba cultural values, intellect, and hospitality.

“He applauds the cordial relationship between the Igbo and the Yoruba, citing that several Igbo are an integral part of various Yoruba communities. The depth of the roots of the intermarriages that have taken place between the Igbo and the Yoruba is transcendental, eternal, and can no longer be uprooted.

“The successful marriages of Yoruba daughters by frontline Igbo sons: Chief Emeka Anyaoku; Asagba of Asaba, Professor Joseph Chike Edozien, Professor Vincent Ike, Professor Okey Ndibe, etc, and vice versa, exemplify the irreproachable similarity in the Igbo Yoruba cultural values and cosmology.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Ohanaeze Ndigbo will resist any attempt to paint the 2023 presidential election with an ethnic tar.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Peoples Congress (APC) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) enjoyed the support of eminent Igbo sons and daughters. It is also on record that the emergence of Peter Obi and the success he recorded in the presidential election was by Nigerians of all ethnicity, class, and creed.

“This accounts for why the Ohanaeze was about the last to adopt Peter Obi as a presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Ohanaeze rather re-affirmed and indeed reaffirms its stand on the position of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) led by Chief E K Clarke and Chief Ayo Obasanjo.

Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, the National Publicity Secretary, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide”

For the records, Chief Iwuanyanwu’s third daughter  is married to a Yoruba from a prominent family.
