Obi Appeals To Supporters To Vote for Ogene in Ogbaru House of Reps supplementary election

0

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the recently held general elections, Peter Obi, has appealed to his supporters in Ogbaru, Anambra state, to vote for the LP House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, in Saturday’s supplementary election in Ogbaru.

The election in Ogbaru Federal Constituency, was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  after the February 28 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Obi assured the Ogbaru people that Ogene is a good candidate, who is humble, loyal and honest – who would ensure that the development of Ogbaru would not be neglected.

Hon. Ogene is former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ogbaru from 2011 to 2015.

Obi made this appeal on Thursday, April 13, while on a road-show campaign tour of the wards in the Ogbaru Federal Constituency, where INEC slated to conduct supplementary election to determine the ultimate winner of the federal constituency seat.

At the various spots where he presented the LP candidate in the federal constituency, Hon. Ogene to the people of the area, Obi who was accompanied by Senator-elect Tony Nwoye and Mr. Oseloka Obaze told the people that Ogene is committed to his(Obi’s) philosophy of “building a new Nigeria” and told the people “I am here to beg you to vote for us, vote for Labour Party, vote for Afam Ogene, we will support him, and, he will rebuild here (Ogbaru).

“Remember that I built all these roads here when I was governor, if you vote for us in this Saturday re-run election, we will come back to thank you; Afam Ogene will develop here.” Obi, who was also a former governor of Anambra state, said.

The Labour Party won both the presidential and senatorial elections in Ogbaru in February, while its candidate, Ogene, was also leading other parties comfortably in the House of Representatives election before it was declared inconclusive.

The statement : “Subsequent to complaints and findings on video evidence widely circulated on Friday 7th April, 2023, on social media of high-handedness, unprofessional conduct, and misuse of firearms against some policemen from Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 1, Kano, and a follow-up orderly room trial of the affected policemen by the Force Provost Marshal, three officers from the SPU Base 1 Kano have been dismissed for the offences of discreditable conduct to wit misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline, and wastage of live ammunition.

“The trio, Inspr. Dahiru Shuaibu, Sgt. Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sgt. Isah Danladi were attached to a musician in Kano on escort duties.

“In the course of their duty on Friday 7th April, 2023 at Kahutu Village, Katsina State, the officers repeatedly fired shots from their official firearms into the air despite police policy against firing in the air, standard operating procedure and relevant Force Orders; and disregarding the possible risk to the crowd at the location which included children.

Why FG Must Postpone National Population Census – Gov Ortom

0

By Ayodele Oni

As Nigerians are preparing for head count by the National Population Commission, (NPC) Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has seen reason why the exercise should not hold as scheduled.

The Governor has asked the federal government to  suspend the exercise until all Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), are returned to their ancestral homes.

Governor Ortom made the call on Thursday, when he received a delegation from the Middle Belt Forum led by its President, Dr Bitrus Pogu, at Benue People’s House, Makurdi.

The governor pointed out that close to two million indigenes of Benue State were in the IDP camps and would not be counted because they need to be in their localities before they can participate in the exercise.

Governor Ortom stated that what the federal government must do before carrying out the census was to ensure adequate security for the IDPs in Benue and elsewhere in the country to go back to their homes to be counted.

“This is because I understand from the National Population Commission that those to be counted must be counted in their localities.

“There was so much injustice, bias and tribalism going on in the country that both the leaders and the people were expected to correct it before the country could move forward.”

He particularly decried the sustained attacks on Benue communities by herdsmen over the years in which more than six thousand people have died and property worth billions of naira destroyed with the federal government doing little to help.

“In Benue State alone, we have lost over six thousand people. In the last few days alone, over 131 persons were killed, and we are still counting because others are in the hospital.

“Benue people will remain law abiding citizens because they believe in Nigeria and have worked for the unity of the country.”

The President Middle Belt Forum, Dr Bitrus Pogu, in his earlier remarks, also corroborated what the Governor Ortom said and urged the Federal Government to suspend the proposed national population and housing census because he believed that the exercise “was coming with a hidden agenda.”

Dr Pogu also frowned at the level at which Fulani herdsmen had been killing people of the Middle Belt in connivance with other Fulani socio-cultural groups like Fulani Nationality Movement, FUNAM, openly claiming responsibility without being arrested.

He said what had made the activities of the Fulani in the communities within the Middle Belt more frightening was that after killing and displacing the villagers, “the Fulani came and renamed those villages.”

Ebonyi: How INEC Stole My Mandate For Umahi- LP Candidate

0
Linus Okoroe, the Labour Party, LP, Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of stealing his mandate for the governor of the state, Dave Umahi.

In his swift response to Okorie, the governor said he will sue the LP candidate to court to prove his allegation of mandate theft, adding that Okorie is trying to influence a matter that’s already before the state’s election tribunal.

The electoral umpire declared Umahi winner of the February 25 Senatorial election.

But the LP candidate said during a media chat with journalists in Abakaliki, the state’s capital that he’s the true winner of the election, that INEC robbed him  by declaring Umahi winner, adding that the governor was not even qualified to contest the election having failed to win the All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries conducted by INEC.

Okorie said he’s  “the presumed winner of the Ebonyi south senatorial zone election, conducted on 25th February 2023, irrespective of the fact that the Independent National electoral commission, INEC, announced APC candidate, David Umahi as a winner.

“I still don’t accept to the extent that I’m in Election Petition Tribunal to retrieve that mandate. I consider that mandate as a stolen mandate and I’m very dedicated to retrieving it in the Court.

“An election was held on 25th of February, 2023, where Governor David Umahi is a candidate for APC and I was candidate for Labour Party, LP, and there were other candidates. His supporters including the Local Government Chairman of Onicha LGA made thugs to be known as APC members and supporters to destroy votes in polling Units within my community and my wards, and that’s the areas of my strength; where ordinarily, I’m expected to harvest the maximum number of votes, just like Umahi did in Umunaga ward, and other wards in Uburu community.

“They shot people, they burnt BVAS, they burnt ballot papers, they destroyed results in many of my ten (10) polling Units. When you put all these places including the one that happened in Isu community in Ugbogologo ward, we have over ten thousand (10,000) votes that was destroyed.
“If you go to Ivo LGA, in Ngwugwu ward, in the ward collations and after tabulating the results by whatever they have done, Labour Party, LP, which is my Party scored 551votes, while APC scored 290 votes, but instead of entering 551votea that my Party scored, they decided to enter 290 votes to be same with that of APC that scored 290 votes. Taking away 261 votes, that is stealing of votes. The BVAS is there to confirm it.
“In all of these irregularities that happened, the total results announced by INEC said he (Umahi) won me by the margin of 2882 votes. Meanwhile, we have over ten thousand votes mostly in my areas of strength, my stronghold that were destroyed by APC members.
“The law says that where the margin of lead between the 1st candidate and the 2nd candidate, is not more than the total number of the places where election didn’t hold or cancelled, that you shall not return a winner, in other words, 2882 votes compared to ten thousand (10,000) votes, nobody should be declared winner but should be declared inconclusive.
“I did a petition when I found out that they (INEC) wants to declare him (Umahi), I quoted section 24(3) of the electoral acts, which prohibits the Returning Officer from announcing that results but because of the pressure mounted on him (Returning Officer) he declared that results. Is that not stealing?”
“That INEC stole my election and that Governor David Umahi of APC, are the recipients of a stolen property. And so, INEC stole my election, then Governor David Umahi received the stolen mandate. That’s my stolen mandate. He (Umahi) is holding unto a stolen mandate” Okorie said.
Governor Umahi, the magazine recalled, had shown interest in the APC presidential primary election, but made a U-turn later to contest for senate.
This led to a serious contest among members of his party who dragged him to court, which later declared him the APC candidate for the Senatorial district.

Kwara State To End Open Defecation

By Akinwale Kasali

The Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman led Kwara State Government has stated its determination to bring an end to open defecation.

To this end, it has opened windows for dialogue, collaboration and support with all partners.

This was made known when the Clean Nigeria Campaign team from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, paid an advocacy visit to the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Risikatullahi Abdulmaliq-Bashir.

The Commissioner said the launching of the Clean Nigeria Campaign was not a rush, stressing that it requires all hands to be on deck to strengthen all the enablements and further empower the campaign on open defecation.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Assistant Press Secretary, Adewoye Oluwatosin, the Commissioner said, “Kwara is moving and we are running a race, as the number one marathon in Nigeria and we will not disappoint you definitely.”

Speaking during the visit, the National Coordinator, Clean Nigeria Campaign and leader of the team, Mrs. Opara Chizoma, represented by the Deputy National Coordinator, Mr. Musa Lawal, applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts and support to drive the campaign to end open defecation in the State.

“You will recall that the Clean Nigeria Campaign was launched in 2019 by Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo (GCON). This was in response to Nigeria’s unfortunate position as the second country with the highest number of people practicing open defecation globally, estimated at 48 million person according to 2021, WASH NORM Report, while access to sanitation in Kwara State was 31% and 50% of her population still practice open defecation”, the Coordinator noted.

The campaign, according to her, is aimed at mobilizing high-level political support, resources, and the entire populace toward building a new culture of good sanitation practices in Nigeria.

She however solicited the Kwara state government’s support to hasten the policy implementation in our communities which had already commenced in Moro Local Government Area.

Chizoma said that the primary aim of eliminating open defecation is to reduce WASH-associated diseases and burdens in order to ensure dignified lives for the people of Moro and the generality of Kwarans.

She urged citizens of the state to contribute their quotas and support to ensure that Kwara State becomes open-defecation-free by the year 2025.

The General Manager, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Olorunfemi Oladipo, said the construction of five simple smart toilets in markets, motorparks and other public places is ongoing and being implemented across the five districts of Moro Local Government Area.

In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Yahaya Mohammed, encouraged everyone to take the campaign to the rural areas to eradicate open defecation in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Abubakar Ayinla, assured that all public toilets in government hospitals would be in good shape.

LASG Condemns Movie, ‘Gangs Of Lagos’, Says “It Is Mockery Of Our Heritage”

0

By Akinwale Kasali

The Lagos State Government has criticized Jide Osiberu’s new movie, ‘Gangs of Lagos’, saying it is a mockery of the State’s heritage a d what it stands for.

LASG also expressed its displeasure with the promoters and producers of the movie over what it described as “cultural misrepresentation” as well as portraying the culture of the state in a derogatory manner.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf said the Ministry, being the regulatory body and custodian of the culture of Lagos State, viewed the film/series as a mockery of the Heritage of Lagos.

It would be recalled that a few days ago, Prince Uthman Shodipe-Dosunmu, the Apesinọla Ẹyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa Ọkalaba Ẹkun, a cultural group, had condemned the film, calling for its immediate withdrawal.

He had stated that the film depicts ethnic profiling, sacrilegious and outrageous trash.

Akinbile-Yusuf expressed disappointment with the promoters of the film, Jade Osiberu and Kemi Akindoju, for portraying the Eyo Masquerade as a gun-wielding villain while adorning the full traditional regalia.

Instructively, the Eyo Festival is rarely observed and only comes up as a traditional rite of passage for Obas, revered Chiefs and eminent Lagos Indigenes while the Eyo Masquerade is used as a symbol of honour for such personalities and remarkable historical events.

According to Akinbile-Yussuf, “We are of the opinion that the production of the film ‘The Gang of Lagos’ is very unprofessional and misleading while its content is derogatory of our culture, with the intention to desecrate the revered heritage of the people of Lagos.

“It is an unjust profiling of a people and culture as being barbaric and nefarious. It depicts a gang of murderers rampaging across the State”.

The State Government maintained that “the Adamu Orisha, popularly known as the Eyo Festival, is rarely observed and only comes up as a traditional rite of passage for Obas, revered Chiefs and eminent Lagosians.

Akinbile-Yussuf, stressed that “the Eyo Masquerade is equally used as a symbol of honour for remarkable historical events.

“It signifies a sweeping renewal, a purification ritual to usher in a new beginning, a beckoning of new light, acknowledging the blessings of the ancestors of Lagosians.”

In an earlier reaction via a statement, Shodipe-Dosunmu, described the film as a reckless, disgusting distortion of the sacred illustration of Lagos culture.

According to him, “There is a film presently being promoted by one Jade Osiberu and another character called Kemi Akindoju. The so called movie is an ugly, hate filled mockery of the Lagosian heritage.

“In their reckless, disgusting distortion of the sacred illustration of the Lagosian culture the film makers reduced the Eyo masquerade into a gun toting killing machine, clothing their misfit actors in the full regalia of the Eyo and with the Aga depicting some Conclaves.

“This is a total abomination. It is not only a distortion of our culture, it is a dark insidious profiling of our people as criminals and murderers rampaging across Lagos.

“The Adamu Orisha is a treasured cleansing ritual, a sacred rite performed on the passage of an Oba or for their coronation.

“It is also used to honor distinguished Lagosians as their final rite of transition.

“Since Ejilu and Malakin, the brothers of Olori Olugbani first initiated the Eyo rite in celebration of Oba Ado Keme, the Adamu Orisha has become a sacred ancestral heritage celebrated with awe and deserving adoration.

“It signifies a sweeping renewal, a purificational ritual to usher in a new beginning, a beckoning of new light, acknowledging the blessings of our ancestors.

“To use the sacred Adamu Orisha Masquerade as an object of terror and loose criminality is to savage and despoil the Lagosian tradition.

“It is vile, evil, perverse; an utterly sadistic mangling of who we are as peace loving, accommodating and enlightened people.

“We demand an immediate withdrawal of this sacrilegious and outrageous trash.

“We demand that the National Film and Video Censors Board and all appropriate authorities to ban this blatant mockery disguising as cinematography and impose the most punitive sanctions on the sponsors of this venomous ethnic profiling.

“We also appeal to the Lagos State Government, the Oba of Lagos Alayeluwa Oba Rilwan Akinolu, all the custodians of our tradition including the Alaworo of Adamu Orisha and Akinsiku Chief Ademola Dosunmu to rouse up in protective defense of our tradition against the ravages of these agents of condemnable pollution of all that we cherish in this sacred soil of Oba Ado Keme.

“Ethnic profiling is recognized as a crime against humanity by the International Court of Justice.

“This provision can also be invoked against these sacrilegious hate baiters.”

“Why Wike Needs Pity And Prayers – Momodu; Says  Nobody Will Ever Trust Him;  Not In Obi, Atiku’s Class”

0

By Adesina Soyooye

“How Wike Wasted Billions of Rivers State money on a fruitless venture. Sometimes, when God has been kind to a man, he begins to see himself as God” –  Momodu on Wike

Chief Dele Momodu,  accomplished Journalist, celebrated Publisher of Ovation International,  Politician, a two-time Presidential Aspirant, and  Director of Strategic Communications, Peoples Democratic Party’s Campaign Council, has asked for prayers for Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement in response to Wike’s many fights with many people, including Momodu who he chided for not getting a single vote during the PDP Presidential Primary, Momodu said Wike will know what he did to himself after May 29, 2023. That is the day Wike’s tenure as a Governor will end.

Momodu: “He said I did not win any vote, but we both lost, yet, he wasted billions of State money pursuing a dream he couldn’t achieve.

“Wike will know life better after May 29, 2023, no matter what position he occupies thereafter. No one will trust him.”

Momodu chided Wike for terminating the political career of three of his Governor friends. Along with  Governors Samuel Ortom, Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu, and Seye Makinde, Wike formed the G5 which he headed. They fought both the Party and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar over the loss of the Vice Presidential ticket by Wike even though on the surface, they claimed they wanted the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, now barred by a Court from parading himself as Governor, out for equity and fairness in the Party. They wanted, they said, a Chairman from the South because it was unfair, according to them, for both the Presidential Candidate and the National Chairman to come from the same Region – Northern Nigeria.

In the General Elections, Ortom, Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi, lost their Senatorial bid. The situation of Ortom and Ikpeazu is even worse. They were not able to produce their successors. Only Ugwuanyi did, even though the outcome is in dispute.

Momodu, also mocked Wike over Peter Obi. He said  that even though Wike “stylistically” pushed the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, out of the PDP, he is not in Obi’s class. He said Obi is more relevant, politically, than Wike, while Atiku remains a global statesman and businessman.

Following is Momodu’s post on Wike shared to Reporters  in Abuja on Wednesday.

“As his big brother who loves him so much, I will continue to offer him prayers so that God can deliver him fully from this demon of anger.

“Wike truly deserves our pity and prayers. He is a hard working man who suffers from several afflictions like many mortals, the chief of which is rabid anger.

“He is a control freak who expects everyone to bow and tremble before him no matter your age or influence in society. Sometimes, when God has been so kind to a man, he may begin to see himself as God.

“Wike is gloating that Atiku lost the election, the process of which is still ongoing. But Wike lost his own election since last year, and  he is yet to recover.

“Wike is happy that Dr Iyorchia Ayu is no longer our National Chairman.  Oh, but despite his attacks against the gentleman,  Wike’s power and wealth couldn’t remove him.

“Only cowards mock the “dead” in battle. Like a suicide bomber, Wike terminated the dream of three of his Governor-friends  in his war of attrition.

“So, what exactly did he gain? He said I did not win any votes, but both of us lost, yet he wasted billions of State resources om pursuing a dream he couldn’t achieve.

“I remain a Journalist without borders, while he continues to oppress his hapless and seemingly helpless victims in Rivers State. Even the Peter Obi that he stylistically  intimidated out of PDP is far more relevant today.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar remains a global statesman in politics and in business. And he still can’t do with the ARISE NEWS that he pretends to hate so much. What is there to gloat about.

“The outgoing Governor will know life better after May 29, 2023. No matter what position he occupies thereafter, no one will ever trust him.

“He will be viewed with suspicion and derision. He may become the first Governor Emeritus to live in the Government House with the new Governor, or move the Governor into his own guest chalet for the sole purpose of signing documents.

“It is the way the cookie crumbles. What a sad end  to a brilliant career!! Very unfortunate.”
