International Musical Sensation, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido and his Wife, Chioma, have welcomed a set of twins babies.

The multiple award-winning Afrobeat singer and his wife were filled with joy as they left an Atlanta United States hospital where their twins, a male and female, were delivered.

Davido flashed a huge smile and made a gesture to replicate that his wife delivered twins while Chioma, who could not hide her joy, sat in a wheelchair with the babies held closely to her chest.

In a viral video, the Musician was seen smiling with the wife holding closely to her chest her bundle of joy.

It was gathered that the Adeleke family welcomed the set of twins on Monday, but kept it off the social media.

However, Evangelist Gospel Agochukwu on Tuesday morning made that disclosure, but Davido didn’t respond to the news.

The delivery came barely 11 months after the couple’s first child, Ifeanyi, drowned inside the family’s pool in the Banana Island Area of Lagos.

Why Tinubu Should Listen To Obi – Group

0

Worried by the controversy over President Bola Tinubu’s identity crisis as well as the furore over the authenticity or otherwise of his Chicago State University certificate, the Neo Africana Centre has asked Tinubu to look beyond partisanship and embrace the counsel offered him by Peter Obi on how to resolve the issues in contention.

Tinubu has been embroiled in controversy over his claim to have attended and obtained a certificate from Chicago State University in the United States. There is also a haze of uncertainty over his true identity following the inconsistencies in his name and gender as revealed by the Chicago papers.

To put paid to these controversies, Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 2023 presidential election, has asked Tinubu to mount the rostrum and address Nigerians on these vexed issues in order to save himself and Nigeria the embarrassment arising from them.

In a statement by its Director of Public Affairs, Jenkins Udu, the Centre said it agrees entirely with Obi that Tinubu should speak up on the issue as his silence is deepening suspicion and distrust over the matter. According to the public policy think tank, Tinubu will be doing himself a world of good if he does not bring partisan considerations to bear on Obi’s counsel. If anything , he should see Obi’s interest in the matter as a friendly intervention by a patriot who is concerned about the sanctity of the office of the president as well as the image of his country.

Part of the statement reads:

“We have observed with concern the furore over President Bola Tinubu’s Chicago papers especially as they relate to the certificate he claimed to have acquired from Chicago State University. The Chicago papers have also raised questions over Tinubu’s true identity, including his gender. These ugly developments are not only embarrassing to Nigerians, they cast a slur on the image of the president and the office he occupies. In fact, they have the potentialities to bring the Nigerian presidency to disrepute if not properly handled.

“We were therefore deeply relieved when Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 2023 presidential election, brushed politics aside and offered Tinubu a well-intentioned and genuine counsel which, if embraced by Mr President, will put paid to the ongoing controversy. Rather than harangue and brow-beat Obi for his patriotic intervention as some Tinubu’s lackeys are doing, he should be applauded for prescribing the right antidote to a festering sore.

“We therefore agree with Obi that Tinubu should address Nigerians on this subject matter. As the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Tinubu’s identity should not be a matter of speculation. If Nigerians did not have full knowledge of who he was before he was declared president, questions arising from the Chicago papers have compelled them to seek to know who their president is. This, for us, is a simple and straightforward matter. Tinubu as Nigeria’s first citizen should gladly step forward to clear the air on areas of doubt about his identity and background. Making himself an object of gossip and unedifying banters is tantamount to debasing the Nigerian presidency.

“It is unconscionable for a president who claims to hold the people’s mandate to leave the same people to speculate about who he is. Public office is a trust. In other words, Tinubu occupies his present office on behalf of the people. The people should therefore, at all times, be in a position to talk freely and confidently about their president. But this can only be possible if his background is not cloaked in secrecy. The ongoing attempt at shielding the identity and background of Mr President from the public is therefore patently distasteful. It will only create the impression that the president has something to hide.

“It is regrettable that elements around the president are polluting the political space with divisiveness and bad blood just because the people who, ostensibly, voted the president into office are insisting on their right to know. Honour and integrity demand that the president should make full disclosures about his identity and background. Silence cannot be golden in this circumstance.”

Senate: More Trouble For Akpabio, Accused Of Running One-man Show

0

Trouble seems to be courting Senate President, Godswill Akpabio like his own shadow.

Two months after his colleagues threatened to impeach him after he openly said in the chamber that money has been sent to senators’ accounts to enjoy themselves, he has been accused of running a one-man show.

“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” Akpabio said on August 9, while presiding over the chamber.

The gaffe had angered some senators who warned him to be careful next time.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom state who rode on the wings of President Bola Tinubu to his current position, some senators now say has been making decisions unilaterally without consulting them.

According to the aggrieved Senators, bills sent to the Senate by the Executive arm of the government no longer get the input of senators before they are hurriedly passed.

Akpabio who faced stiff opposition from some of his colleagues during the contest for the Senate Presidency in June this year, however, denied the allegation, saying he’s running the senate with public interest in mind.

On Wednesday, Senator Ali Ndume, the Senate Chief Whip from Borno State, warned Akpabio to stop passing certain bills without formal reading and members’ contributions.

Also, Senator Ogoshi Onawo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, criticized the Senate President for running the Senate without consulting his colleagues on critical issues, the senator warned him that power is transient.

Onawo said, “Very sensitive bills are brought and are expected to be passed with the speed of light, which is not good for the country.

“Every senator here is supposed to be adequately informed; he does his research and makes a positive contribution, but in a situation where even money bills are brought and expected to be passed within two hours, it wouldn’t be better for the country.

“Sir, you are on the seat today; history will judge you that things like this are not good for this country.”

Responding Akpabio stated, “If the bills we pass are good for the country, history will judge me right. I don’t think we would come here to pass a bill that’s not good for the interest of Nigerians. So, your point of order is noted.”

The Senate under Akpabio recently passed a rule that barred fresh senators from vying for leadership positions in Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, the action, his critics said was taken to counter those plotting to remove him from the top job.

We Are Grateful to Peter Obi for Revolutionalising Education – Bishop Okoye

0

The achievement of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi in the education sector during his Governorship reign in Anambra state continues to elicit commendation from prominent citizens of the state.

A week after Governor Charles Soludo praised the former Governor’s records in education promising to continue, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev Jonas Benson Okoye on Friday commended Obi for revolutionizing education in the state.

Bishop Okoye, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, has commended the former governor for his decision to return schools to the church, considering it a pivotal step in the educational transformation of Anambra. He noted that this legacy, maintained by subsequent governors has reinstated the state as a leader in educational progress within the nation.

Bishop Okoye made these comments during the 69th birthday celebration of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor, a prominent business leader and the founder of Jezco Industries, in Ekwulobia, Anambra State. Bishop Okoye emphasized that the church, as a moral guide within society, serves as the collective conscience of the people. He further contended that the church is better positioned to shape the values and character of individuals in society through its mission schools.

Bishop Okoye stated that in 1970, following the conclusion of the Nigerian civil war, the former East Central State Government assumed control of mission schools previously managed by the Church. He noted that this change has contributed to a significant decline in moral values, evident in the widespread increase in criminal activities and a lack of moral integrity, particularly among the youth, over the years.

The clergyman disclosed that Mr. Peter Obi’s decision to return mission schools to the Church has resulted in increased productivity, discipline, and the instillation of strong moral values alongside academic excellence in Anambra’s educational institutions. He noted that these mission schools have enabled the Church to continue imparting essential moral values to the youth in various learning establishments.

Bishop Okoye expressed his gratitude to Peter Obi not only for initiating this significant move but also for generously funding these schools, which has led to a remarkable transformation in the state’s education sector.

“We are thankful to Mr. Peter Obi for his initiative in returning mission schools to the Church, and to his successors for embracing and preserving this remarkable educational legacy. Recently, Governor Soludo allocated over N1.5 billion to mission schools to enhance education in the state. Such actions are highly commendable and in line with Obi’s legacy,” remarked Bishop Okoye.

Expanding on the progress of education in the state, Bishop Okoye commended Chief Joseph Ezeokafor, the celebrant, for his investments in education, both within and outside the state. He highlighted Chief Ezeokafor’s scholarship program, which offers underprivileged students access to free education, and his consistent financial support to various schools, contributing to the delivery of quality education to students.

“He also extends his support to numerous schools within and beyond the state, providing financial assistance to ensure the provision of quality education to students,” concluded Bishop Okoye.

Why LASG Shut Down Mile 12, Owode Onirin Markets

Mile12 Gridlock

By Akinwale Kasali

The Lagos State Government has once again wielded the big stick in implementing its zero tolerance for filth in markets.

On Friday, it shut down the Mile 12 International and Owode Onirin markets.

Mile 12 International market  plays host to perishable goods in Lagos State. But the Government shut it down over filth, unhygienic state and various environmental infractions.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment in a joint operation carried out by enforcement officers from Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, and Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC popularly known as Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, on the directives of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources,  Tokunbo Wahab shut down the Market till further notice.

Speaking on the operation, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Wahab, insisted on zero tolerance for filth in all markets in the state, stressing that no one would be spared if found wanting.

He underscored the importance of stringent sanitation measures in Lagos markets, noting that cleanliness and adherence to environmental regulations were essential for a healthy city.

He said, “Recent events at Mile 12 and Owode Onirin markets have brought to light the pressing need for strict adherence to sanitation standards in our markets. The closure, though a difficult decision, is a necessary step to address the prevailing environmental challenges and to ensure the safety and well-being of all stakeholders.

The closure of Mile 12 and Owode Onirin markets will enable the stakeholders  assess the situation, improve public health and environmental sanity around those axis. Conditions in the markets have deteriorated  to a point where immediate intervention became inevitable”.

Wahab emphasised that the enforcement action was not an isolated event, but part of a broader strategy to instill a culture of cleanliness and compliance with environmental regulations across board for markets within the state.

He urged traders and customers to prioritise hygiene and sustainable practices in their daily business activities.

He further hinted that safety audit personnel would be deployed to the market, to assess the situation, before any consideration for reopening, warning other markets to toe the line of cleanliness and environmental hygiene, to avoid severe sanctions.

The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, on his part, noted that the markets were closed for very severe unhygienic conditions and a litany of environmental infractions, adding that the closure was necessary, to protect the health of the public and to ensure it was properly cleaned up and sanitised.

The LAWMA boss stated that the Lagos State Government would not relent in enforcing sanitation and environmental regulations, especially around business facilities, urging markets in the state to support government’s efforts, by complying with laws and regulations, aimed at making the city cleaner and livable for all.

For weeks now, the Ministry of Environment and LAWMA has been taking necessary actions in making sure that cleanliness becomes the norms in markets all over the State.

Some Markets were shut down and reopened after certain measures were put in place, while some markets are still under key and lock till date.

Ondo Assembly Suspends Impeachment Proceedings Against Deputy Governor

Lucky Aiyedatiwa

By Ayodele Oni

The Ondo State House of Assembly may have hit brick wall in its bid to impeach the deputy governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Already, the Assembly has put on hold proceedings relating to the removal of Aiyedatiwa till further notice, as reliably gathered.

The initial frustration of the Legislators came after the Chief Judge of the state, Olusegun Odusola, refused to set up a panel to investigate the deputy governor on the expiration of the seven days within which to do that.

The Judge had advised the assembly to first vacate to Injunction granted by the Federal High Court, Abuja before any action could be taken.

In a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, dated October 6, 2023, the Chief Judge said he could not comply with the directive because of the order of the Federal High Court issued in Abuja.

The House had earlier vowed to proceed with the process despite an order of the Federal High Court, citing sections of the constitution forbidding the interference of the courts in an impeachment process at a legislative house.

The spokesperson of the Assembly, Olatunji Oshati, said on Friday that the lawmakers will comply with the order and halt further proceedings on the impeachment.

“This is to show that it is not about witch-hunting, it is about carrying out our oversight functions.

“We have considered the letter which is everywhere in the public domain and we are halting the impeachment process until the order of the Federal High Court is vacated.

“It is not about being arrogant with power, it is about holding public officers accountable.

“It also shows that the process of impeachment transcends the monopoly of the legislature as we can see that the judiciary has stalled it.”

President Tinubu Pulls Out FCT From TSA Operation

By Ayodele Oni

The Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) is gradually getting towards becoming autonomous as President Bola Tinubu approved its pulling out of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

Treasury Single Account, the baby of the immediate past administration of President Mohammadu Buhari, is a system whereby all agencies and ministries owned by the federal government operates a single account for income and expenditure.

FCTA Minister, Nyesom Wike, who disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, said, this would allow  FCTA to use the territory’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the development of the nation’s capital.

Addressing a news conference  Wike also disclosed that the President has also approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission to allow for staff career progression.

Civil servants in the territory have been complaining of the effects of the absence of such Commission for their career progression.

CBN: Cardoso Makes First Move; Dumps Emefiele’s Policies

0
The newly appointed CBN governor Yemi Cardoso has hinted that his approach  would be clearly different  from his predecessor,  Godwin Emefiele.
As the head of Nigeria’s  government  bank, the apex bank governor  said he will focus more on the monetary policy of the economy, unlike Emefiele who has been trenchantly criticised for directly  meddling in the fiscal aspect of the nation economy.
Cardoso, however, stated that where necessary, the apex bank will advise the federal government  on the fiscal areas for the overall interest to reposition the nation’s economy for accelerated growth.
The apex bank governor made this known in Morocco on the sideline of the world bank and IMF Annual meetings.
The comment has been described by financial experts as his first major policy statement, expected to shape the direction of his administration as Nigeria’s top banker and regulator in the next five years, following his appointment  by President Bola Ahmed  Tinubu,  and his clearance by the Nigerian Senate for the top job earlier this months.
Cardoso said, “Much has been made of past CBN forays into development financing, such that the lines between monetary policy and fiscal intervention have blurred.
“In refocusing the CBN on its core mandate, there is a need to pull it back from direct development finance interventions into more limited advisory roles that support economic growth.
“The bank should act as a catalyst in the propagation of specialised institutions and financial products that support emerging sectors of the economy.
“It should facilitate new regulatory frameworks to unlock dormant capital in land and property holdings.”
Apart from his promise to focus on the monetary aspect of the economy,  the governor, yesterday also veered away from one of Emefiele’s regulatory  policies which placed foreign exchange restriction on some imported items.
Over 40 imported items were placed on forex restriction list under the former CBN governor for years. The ban has now been lifted, according to a statement released on Thursday by the apex bank which said importers of these items are now allowed to source forex from the Importer and exporter, I& E, forex window like other importers.
The CBN governor has also unveiled his plan to work with the government to set Nigeria on the same trajectory with other emerging economies such as Brazil,  China,  South Africa, India, Mexico, etc.  by expanding the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, to $1 trillion dollars in few years.
The reform to refocus the apex bank for overall economic growth is ongoing, Cardoso said, adding that his  focus will be on how to  moderately reduce  inflation, increase foreign reserves, and quickly turn around  the country’s  cyclical economic downturn.
According to the apex bank helmsman, “Given this, a refocused CBN will better serve Nigeria through monetary policy interventions and advisory roles that sustain implementation of the administration’s fiscal proposals.”
“Much has been made of past CBN forays into development financing, such that the lines between monetary policy and fiscal intervention have blurred.
The apex bank on Thursday, finally lifted the foreign exchange restriction placed by Emefiele on the importation of 43 items.
The Apex Bank lifted the restriction in a statement issued by the Director, Corporate Communications Department, Isa AbdulMumin.
It explained in the statement that the 43 items are now allowed to purchase foreign exchange in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market.
The ban on the 43 items was announced in 2015 through a Circular referenced TED/FEM/FPC/GEN/01/010.
The CBN explained then that the measure was to sustain the stability of the naira and ensure the efficient utilisation of forex.
Importers of the 41 items were excluded from accessing forex at the exchange markets to encourage local production and modified the list subsequently to 43 items.
The items include clothing’s, cement processed foods and meat, poultry products, metals and woods, among others.
In the statement, the CBN said it will continue to promote orderliness and professional conduct by all participants in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market to ensure market forces determine exchange rates on a willing buyer – willing seller principle.
It said, “The CBN reiterates that the prevailing Foreign Exchange rates should be referenced from platforms such as the CBN website, FMDQ, and other recognized or appointed trading systems to promote price discovery, transparency, and credibility in the FX rates.
“As part of its responsibility to ensure price stability, the CBN will boost liquidity in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market by interventions from time to time. As market liquidity improves, these CBN interventions will gradually decrease.
Importers of all the 43 items previously restricted by the 2015 Circular referenced TED/FEM/FPC/GEN/01/010 and its addendums are now allowed to purchase foreign exchange in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market.
“The CBN is committed to accelerating efforts to clear the FX backlog with existing participants and will continue dialogue with stakeholders to address the issue.”
Meanwhile, stakeholders in the nation’s financial sector have described Cardoso’s move as a welcome development, they however pointed out that implementation could be a serious challenge even though the policies are good on paper.
