Kenneth Okonkwo is a Beloved Brother, Cannot Be A Mole” – Peter Obi Reacts To The Actor’s Attack Against Him

Kenneth Okonkwo and Peter Obi

Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi, has dismissed the insinuations that Kenneth Okonkwo was a mole planted around him and in Presidential Campaign Organization.

Okonkwo, an Actor, Lawyer, Politician, was the Spokesperson for the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization in the 2023 Election.

Okonkwo, to the disappointment of not a few people, resigned from the Labour Party and Obidients on Saturday,  but not quietly.

In his resignation notice, he expressed disappointment in Obi’s leadership capabilities and qualities. He doubted Obi’s competence in handling bigger issues if he couldn’t manage the crisis in the LP.

Since his resignation and such unexpected comments against Obi, not a few people have dismissed Okonkwo as a mole planted around Obi. They insist that he quit the LP because “his job” as  an alleged spy in Obi’s Campaign Organization and Party is finished. He is an Actor, they insist, and acted the part he was assigned to act in Obi’s Presidential Campaign Organization.

But Obi disagrees and describes Okonkwo as his beloved younger brother who played a positive role during “the struggle”.

In a release, Yunusa Tanko, Spokesperson for Peter Obi’s Media Reach, quoted Obi as, also, saying there is no personal disagreement between him and Okonkwo.

Tanko: “Following the announcement of the former Spokesperson of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization in the 2023 election, Kenneth Okonkwo that he was leaving both the Labour Party and the Obidients, I as Chief Spokesman of the Campaign contacted our principal Obi for his reaction and he told me he was sad by the development because he sees Okonkwo as a junior brother who played his role diligently during our struggle.

“Obi told me succinctly that Okonkwo cannot be called a mole in our family with the services he rendered and still renders in our struggle to create a new Nigeria that is possible.

“When I asked Obi if I could make his views on Okonkwo public he said yes because the public needs to know that there is no personal misunderstanding between us and Okonkwo but only a disagreement based on style and approach to problems.

Good Riddance To Okonkwo; He’s A Mole, Smuggled Self Into Labour Party

Kenneth Okonkwo

The Labour party, LP, has described Kenneth Okonkwo’s exit from the party as a good riddance to to bad rubbish, saying one of the spokespersons to the 2023 Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign was a mole who smuggled himself into the party.

The LP said other moles in the party will soon be offloaded in due course, saying “today, it is the turn of Mr. Okonkwo, a former member of APC, who smuggled himself into the presidential campaign, and his destination is already known to us.”

The magazine reported that Okonkwo, a lawyer left the party at the weekend citing the failure on the part of Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the party to provide leadership.

Okonkwo had said in a statement on his X handle that he lost confidence in Obi after he failed to call the LP leadership to order in their quest to destroy the party.

Reacting the party in a statement signed by Obiora Ifoh, its

National Publicity Secretary described Okonkwo and others who have left the party as “political jesters and jobbers whose stomach are their gods,” saying the LP will not be distracted  by their decisions to abandon the party.

According to the party, their actions will not detract Obi from realising his quest to become president in the next election slated for 2027, saying the trust Nigerians have in the former Anambra state governor still remains intact.

Below the LP statement:

Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation from the Labour Party didn’t come to us as a surprise. We also think that his attack on the party’s leader, Peter Obi is rather unfortunate however we will continue not to dignify him with any response as we understand that his attention craving attitude knows no bound.

If you recall, recently a former Director General of the party’s presidential campaign organisation resigned and rejoined the APC. Only last week, a former deputy Director General of the presidential campaign organisation also resigned and rejoined the APC. Today, it is the turn of Mr. Okonkwo, a former member of APC, who smuggled himself into the presidential campaign, and his destination is already known to us.

Needless to say that Nigeria is not in want of political jesters and jobbers whose stomach are their gods. Labour Party is not perturbed by his decision to move on and in fact, we wish him well in his future endeavours, whether in acting, law practice, politics or otherwise.

We also wish to note here, that the party is aware of a few other persons who are planted as moles, who are presently instigating crisis within the party, and who have unsuccessfully attempted to hijack the party for the use of their paymasters. We urge them to act fast and do the needful before they are exposed and fumigated out of the party.

Labour Party is keeping to its decision to stand with Peter Obi as its leader and presidential hopefully come 2027 presidential election and we are not apologetical about that position. Coordinated attacks from some quarters will not in anyway diminish the trust Nigerians, particularly, the Obidients and youths in Nigeria have in him. We know that with him, a new Nigeria will be possible. Nigerians spoke loudly in 2023 and they will speak even louder come 2027.

CBN Corruption: SERAP Sues Apex Bank Over N115bn Graft

0
Yemi Cardoso - CBN Governor

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has been dragged to a Federal High court in Lagos by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, to account for over N115 billion.

The amount, the human rights body said , include the N100 billion dirty notes kept in various branches of the apex bank that have yet to be accounted for since 2007.

The dirty notes were supposed to have been destroyed, according to SERAP citing the Auditor General of the Federation, but may have been released into circulation by some corrupt CBN officials,

The suit filed at the weekend by SERAP lawyer, Kolawole Oluwadare, also demanded accountability from the CBN of the N7.2 billion meant for the construction of the CBN Dutse branch building in 2010 and the N4.8bn meant for the renovation of the CBN Abeokuta branch in 2009.

SERAP prayer  to the court also include an order on the CBN to explain an allegedly missing outstanding loan of N1.2 billion granted to the Enugu State government in 2015, and the exceptional loan of N1.9 billion granted to the Anambra state government between 2015 and 2016.

Nigerians must know what has happened to these funds, the body said.

The group said whoever is found to have been responsible for the alleged missing funds should be punished in line with the law to serve as deterrent to others who might want to tamper with public funds, insisting that the missing fund must also be recovered.

According to SERAP, the alleged sleaze has also hindered the CBN from performing its statutory duty, adding that the apex bank’s operation must be operated with transparency and accountability, noting that the allegation has undermined the country’s anti-corruption act.

Part of the statement said: “Nigerians have the right to know where the public funds are. Granting the reliefs sought would advance the right of Nigerians to restitution, compensation, and guarantee of non-repetition.

“Paragraph 708 of the Financial Regulations 2009 provides that, ‘on no account should payment be made for services not yet performed or for goods not yet supplied.

“Section 35(2) of the Public Procurement Act 2007 provides that, ‘once a mobilisation fee has been paid to any supplier or contractor, no further payment shall be made to the supplier or contractor without an interim performance certificate.

“Section 16(6) of the Public Procurement Act states that ‘all bidders shall possess the necessary professional and technical qualifications to carry out particular procurements; the financial capacity and adequate personnel to perform the obligations of the procurement contracts.

“SERAP notes that Section 15(5) of the Nigerian Constitution requires public institutions to abolish all corrupt practices and abuses of power.” Section 13 of the Constitution clearly imposes a responsibility on the CBN to conform to, observe, and apply the provisions of Chapter 2 of the Constitution.

“Paragraph 3112(ii) of the Financial Regulations 2009 provides that, ‘Where a public officer fails to account for government revenue, such officer shall be surcharged for the total amount involved and handed over to either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

“Nigeria has made legally binding commitments under the UN Convention against Corruption to ensure accountability in the management of public resources. Articles 5 and 9 of the UN Convention against Corruption also impose legal obligations on the CBN to ensure proper public affairs and public funds management.

“The Nigerian Constitution, Freedom of Information Act, and the country’s anti-corruption and human rights obligations rest on the principle that citizens should have access to information regarding their public institutions’ activities.

“According to the recently published 2020 audited report by the Auditor General of the Federation (AGF), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been keeping over N100 billion [N100,672,999,000.00] ‘dirty and bad notes’ since 2017 and another large sum of cash awaiting examination in various branches of the CBN,” SERAP said.

Days of Rage: Boko Haram Planning To Infiltrate Protesters-Police

Kayode Egbetokun - IGP

The Yobe state Police Command has warned that members of the deadly insurgents group, Boko Haram are trying to infiltrate the nationwide protest next month.

The state police spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim made the revelation in a statement at the weekend.

Abdulkarim appealed to protesters to be peaceful as well as availing the police their plans for the protest.

The police admonition comes on the heels of warning from the federal government of the potetntial of the protest being hijacked by hoodlums.

The government has been making efforts to ensure that the protest arising from hunger and hardship in the country slated for August 1-10 did not hold, by engaging traditional, religious and other opinion leaders in the country to appeal to the organisers of the protest to shelve their plan.

The organisers however insist that the 10-day protest to force government’s hands to do something about the current economic harship in the country will still go ahead as planned.

According to the statement, the protest will set the state back from its recovery from boko haram attack, a situation that could pose a big challenge to security agencies, urging potential protesters to cooperate with the police with the aim of making the proest peaceful.

The statement said, “As Yobe state recovers from insurgency, the commissioner of police, CP Garba Ahmed, acknowledges citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly.

“While we alert citizens to sinister motives, even peaceful protests at this time may be ill-timed. Recent insurgency activities in Gujba LGA, including an improvised explosive device explosion, have raised concerns.

“By providing this information, we can deploy adequate personnel and resources, designate specific routes and areas, establish clear communication channels, and minimise the risk of violence, property damage, or criminal activity.

“We encourage protesters to cooperate with the police, obey the law, and adhere to global best practices for peaceful assembly. We are committed to working with all to promote peaceful expression and maintain public order,” the command said.

Recall that the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun claimed last week that some foreigners are behind the protest coming up in few days.

A statement issued on Sunday July 28, by the Command’s spokesperson, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, said a group of armed men attacked the patrol base ,destroying properties and targeting officers.

Online Publishers Forum Flays Rising Insecurity in Delta

By Ayodele Oni

Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has expressed concern over the increase in kidnapping and herder attacks in the State

It appealed to the Nigerian Police and all relevant security agencies to intensify efforts in curbing the menaces which threaten the peace and security of various communities.

A statement on Sunday, signed by Emmanuel Enebeli chairman and Shedrack Onitsha, secretary, stated that “In recent weeks, there has been a disturbing surge in kidnapping activities, particularly in state major highways, Sapele-Effurrun road, the East-west Road between Agbarho and Ughelli and between Ughelli/Patani, hardly a day passes without reported cases of kidnap and armed robbery attacks on the routes.

“Traveling through these roads is like daring your fate, because it takes a miracle to pass unhurt.

“A once peaceful community, Egbo-Urhe in the Ughelli South local government area, is currently under siege by kidnappers.

“From Ughelli to Effurun, Sapele, Oghara, Abraka and Agbor, nowhere is safe as kidnappers pick their victims lick hawk. Families are living in fear, businesses are suffering, and the overall safety of our citizens is at stake.

“The DOPF urges the Inspector General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to deploy additional resources and personnel to the affected areas to ensure the protection of lives and property.

“It is imperative that swift and decisive action is taken to dismantle these criminal networks and restore confidence in our security apparatus.

“We also appeal to the State Government to support the security agencies with logistics and other tools to enhance intelligence gathering and community policing initiatives, which are crucial in preventing these crimes before they occur.

“The collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups should be strengthened to create a formidable defense against these threats.

“Furthermore, the DOPF calls on the state government to engage in meaningful dialogue with herder communities to address the underlying issues contributing to these attacks.

“Sustainable solutions must be found to foster peaceful coexistence and prevent future conflicts. Today, most Deltans are facing starvations because they can’t go to their farms without being attacked.

“The safety and security of our citizens are paramount, and we must all work together to put an end to these acts of violence and ensure a safe and prosperous Delta State.”

Kano State Deputy Governor - Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo

By Ayodele Oni

Newly-inaugurated Forum of Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the country has pledged to implement the decision of the Supreme Court on the Local Councils’ autonomy.

Members were of the view that the formation will have a significant effect regarding the recent court decision on local government autonomy, especially issues like financial autonomy.

Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who doubles as the newly-appointed Chairman of the forum, gave the assurance during the Forum’s inaugural caucus meeting held in Abuja on Saturday.

According to a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the Forum chairman explained that rather than taken any action against the judgement, members will instead navigate to find a safe way of conducting the administration of their respective local government ministries.

He noted that the local government service is facing numerous challenges resulting from the Supreme Court’s decisions, and the Forum has more reasons to come together, discuss, brainstorm, and find a way forward.

Gwarzo stated that it is a known fact that the chief executives of every state and the legislative arm rely on the ministry for many things from the local government.

Nigeria’s Economic Woes, Product Of Over-population, Says Olanipekun

0
Wole Olanipekun SAN

By Ayodele Oni

Legal luminary, Wole Olanipekun SAN, has observed that over bloated Nigeria’s population, is an albatross to its development economically and socially.

Delivering a Convocation Speech at Babcock University, Ilisha-Remo, Ogun State, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)  posited that Nigeria’s increasing population is a time bomb that would explode at any time, even without anybody detonating it.

Olanipekun also used the occasion to admonished the Nigerian youths particularly, young graduates to shun the idea of mad rush to foreign lands in search of greener pastures.

“My plea still remains, that we have to salvage the dehydrating situation which drives our youths from their homestead”

He urged the graduates never  to allow themselves to be overwhelmed by the flood of societal problems and pressure.

In his speech entitled “Go And Replenish The Earth :Man’s Misconception Of God’s Mandate, Olanipekun called  for an  effective  management of the nation’s population growth  with proper review of the population policies.

The former chairman, Body of Benchers said “for centuries, man has misconceived the biblical mandate charging him to ‘go and replenish the earth’ as a command to recklessly populate the earth, without caution.

“To live up to the true meaning and intent of this God’s given mandate, our focus must be on contributions to humanity, rather than uncontrolled population, which invariably chokes the available limited resources in diverse ways.

“My research has not yet assisted me to locate any particular man in the world whose success has been measured or determined by the plurality of the children he has flooded his immediate environment with, rather than the magnitude of his success and positive impacts on his environment.

“It is curious that Nigeria remains one of the very rare countries where the distribution of revenue from the Revenue Allocation Account is based, amongst others, on the principles of landmass, and population density.”

Olanipekun admonished the Nigeria to understudy China’s development model, particularly, how the People’s Republic was able to manage her population to compliment her economic and social development.

“China stands as a notable exception amongst countries of the world with high populations and abject poverty.

“While China is one of the most populous countries in the world, it has managed to lift millions out of the ruthless conundrum of poverty through sustained economic growth, industrialization, and effective governance.

“China is a success story today, and the secret of this narrative, I dare say, is not unconnected with the country’s periodic review of its population policies, starting with the One-Child Policy, which was implemented in 1979, restricting couples to having only one child.

“The Policy was designed to help control China’s population growth, which was skyrocketing at the time and seen as a threat to the country’s economic and social development.

“Nigeria, as of now, has an over-bloated population, that if not timeously checked and controlled would plunge the country into an unmitigated hysteria. Truth be told, our

Saying Nigeria is the 6th most populated country in the world, he added “Our present estimated population of 227Million, is not proximate to or aligned with our GDP of US$1,636 per capita; unemployment rate of 5%;  inflation rate of 33.95%; while food insecurity/scarcity stares us stoically in the face. It is projected that Nigeria will hit a population of 400Million by 2050.

“It appears some Nigerian leaders, particularly, from the Northern part of Nigeria are now getting worried, and rightly in my view, about the uncontrolled population growth in the Northern part of Nigeria.

“No less a personality than former President Muhammadu Buhari was quoted as saying that he was worried by the ‘phenomenon’.

“Shortly before then, the Northern Governors, under the aegis of Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) in a communique issued after their last meeting in Kaduna, stated, amongst others, that “Climate Change, unsustainable agricultural practices and population growth posed significant challenges to the region’

“One would have been disturbed and disappointed if notable and respected Northern leaders were not conscious of the threat that uncontrolled population in the North poses to the region, for several reasons.

“Nigeria is mostly densely populated in the North-Western Region, and more than every other Region, the figurative albatross of poverty hovers over the Region.

“The Human Development Index illustrates that Northern Nigeria has the lowest literacy rates in the country.

“Limited access to quality education, especially for girls, perpetuates a cycle of poverty and limits economic opportunities, thus, life expectancy, education, and per capita income in northern Nigeria score poorly with significant portions of the population living below the poverty line.”
