The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media showing the arrest of some Fulani men allegedly found with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu.
It pointed out that the footage is an old clip from an incident which occurred more than three years ago.
The viral video has claimed that Fulani herdsmen were arrested in Ikorodu, Lagos, with two vehicles loaded with bullets, Guns, and explosive devices.
According to the report, OPC Dependable Security Team uncovered this at a scrap yard in Powerline, Unity Estate CDA, Poroboge, Idiroko, along Itamaga-Iede road, Ikorodu.
Local sources claimed that operatives of the OPC Dependable Security Team carried out a security operation in the area, following intelligence reports about suspicious activities around the scrap yard.
During the operation, the team allegedly intercepted two vehicles said to contain dangerous weapons, including firearms, live ammunition, and suspected explosive materials.
However, the command explained that the video does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State and warned that its recirculation as a recent event could cause unnecessary panic among residents.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said presenting the outdated footage as a fresh incident was misleading and capable of creating fear and apprehension among members of the public.
