ASP Rotimi Richard Ajayi has allegedly shot and killed a 26-year-old Security Guard, Ayineka Ayomide Daniel at TSL Halogen Company in Itori, Ogun State, on October 14.

The Officer was also said to have shot another Security Guard, injuring him.

It was gathered that the Ogun State Police Officer was asleep when the Guard woke him up following an invasion by Robbers who had stormed the Company.

According to a Staff of TSL Halogen Company, Mr. Abayomi, the officer and the guards were working at the same location.

He described the shooting as an “accidental discharge” and said the guards had suspected an intruder.

“It was just an accidental discharge. The two of them are security guards; the Policeman was detailed to the location, while the security guard also works at that particular place.

“So, when they suspected that there was an intruder, it was even the deceased that went to call the police officer. So, in the process of them trying to combat the intruder, it was the security guard that was shot,”

Following this development, the Police Officer was detained, and the case transferred from Itori Police Station to the Eleweran Police Headquarters in Abeokuta for investigation.

The officer is said to be in detention at Eleweran.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 has directed a thorough investigation into the matter, as the Family of the deceased have lamented the neglect from TSL Halogen Company, alleging it failed to contact the family.

Giving a different account of what led to the death of the Security Guard,  father of the deceased, Ayineka Oluwashola, said the family was initially told that his Son was fighting with a friend and had been injured.

He disclosed that they later learnt that he had been shot by a trigger happy Police Officer.

“They said the MOPOL shot the Civilian guards that were working in that company. They are two in number. So they said in the night, armed robbers entered their working place. So they had to go and wake the MOPOL that was asleep already.

“Immediately they woke the MOPOL, they said he began shooting them. He shot my Son in the neck; the other guy, he shot him in his two hands,” Oluwashola narrated.

He revealed that the family had gone to Eleweran Police Headquarters where they wrote a statement demanding justice. He said they were told the suspect was in detention but were not allowed to see him.

He also said the family buried the deceased without an autopsy because his body had swollen.

Speaking also, the

deceased’s younger Sister, Ms. Ayineka Folashade, said the surviving guard told the family that he and Ayomide had gone to wake the police officer because they suspected armed robbers were around.

She further alleged that the Officer shot sporadically, as the bullet hit her Brother and his friend, and no armed robbers were caught.

She also said the company had not reached out to the family since the incident and did not send any representative when the deceased was buried.

“The company where my brother was working hasn’t even reached out to our family. I was even the one calling them for the death certificate,” she said.

The Ogun State Police Command Spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, is yet to make an official statement as regards the incident.
