Mesut Ozil has agreed to a new Arsenal contract worth in excess of a £300,000-per week, ending months of speculation regarding the Germany international’s future.
The 29-year-old playmaker becomes the highest-paid player in the club’s history, earning around £350,000 per week before tax.
Ozil would have been a free agent at the end of the season and was able to speak to foreign clubs from 1 January, but Arsenal tied him to fresh terms after lengthy negotiations.
Ozil played all 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Ozil had earlier stated that his future at the club depends on the manager. But after so much speculation, the German midfielder has extend his contract with the club.
The Turkish born German footballer joined the Gunners in 2013, and has won three FA Cups with the team and two Charity shield. He is on the verge of lifting another silverware with the team should the gunners win the Carabao Cup on 25th February, 2018 against Manchester City at Wembley.
With the acquisition of Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang, Ozil will see an improved Arsenal team.
