For attacking the Governor of Kano State, Kabir Abba Yusuf, in a post, Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has sacked one of his close Aides, Umar Alhassan, popular as King Indira.
DSP Barau in sacking Alhassan said he behaved in a very indisciplined manner, and was disrespectful to the Governor.
Trouble started when Alhassan, in a series of posts on social media, said that “Abba Must Go.”
Nobody knows what pushed him into such posts, especially, as both the DSP and the Governor are of the same party, but speculation is that he was being overzealous, and wanted to please his principal.
Speculations have been rife that the relationship between DSP Barau and Governor Yusuf is untidy. Therefore, a number of people say, Alhassan may have thought that he would please his boss if he put up a negative post on the Governor.
Unfortunately for him it backfired and had the opposite effect.
Barau’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shitu Madaki Kunchi, in a statement he issued on Friday, said Alhassan’s stemmed from his “indiscipline and disrespect” by authoring posts bearing the phrase “Abba Must Go.”
DSP Barau said Alhassan’s action ran contrary to the values of respect and decorum upheld by his office, and inconsistent with the principles of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Said the statement: “Accordingly, we announce his removal from the position of Special Legislative Assistant (SLA) in the office of the Deputy Senate President as of September 18, 2026,” the statement read.
Barau, who represents Kano North, reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and prayed for the party’s success “from top to bottom.”
Alhassan, a popular Kano TikToker, on Friday, posted on his Facebook page that Kano is for Kwankwaso, but still noted that he remains a member of the APC.
For the records, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State is the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Both he and Governor Abba were of the New Nigeria Peoples Party before they went their separate ways after the Governor shocked Kwankwaso by defecing to the APC.
