As part of measures to sanitize activities at motor parks in Osun state, Governor, Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, ( NURTW), in motor parks across Osun State.
The governor gave the directive on Thursday after a meeting of the State Security Council which he chaired.
This was contained in a statement issued after the meeting, by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.
The meeting was attended by heads of security agencies including the Osun State Police Command and Zone 11, the Department of State Services, DSS, the Army, Air Force, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, NDLEA, Immigration, Correctional Service, FRSC, NAPTIP and the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
According to the statement, the council took the decision after a thorough review of the security situation in the state and to restore sanity to motor parks.
Governor Adeleke directed the police and other security agencies to stop all union activities and the collection of levies in all motor parks across the state with immediate effect.
He also ordered security operatives to arrest anyone parading himself as an official or executive of the union in any park in the state.
“I hereby direct the police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state.
“I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union.
“Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace,” the governor said.
The statement added that all security commanders present at the meeting assured the governor of strict compliance.
The governor also directed the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising operatives of all security agencies in the state to ensure enforcement of the directive.
