Osun State Chairman of the Accord, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, has directed all leaders of the party across the state to immediately mobilise to the various collation centres to protect the mandate freely given to the party’s candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
This is just as Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party is leading in the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Records from the Nigeria Elections Intelligence System shows result from 303 of the state’s 332 wards with Adeleke polling 177,572 votes, representing 50.5 per cent, ahead of his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had 158,588 votes, representing 45.1 per cent.
The Chairman said the directive became necessary to ensure that the overwhelming victory already secured by Governor Adeleke at the polling units is properly protected through the collation process.
Pastor Akande called on all Accord leaders to move out en masse and demonstrate leadership by standing firmly with the people and ensuring that their votes are duly counted.
“It is time to show leadership and protect the mandate of our people. It is our collective duty to protect the votes freely cast by the good people of Osun State.
“We must remain vigilant, peaceful and committed throughout the collation process. The victory we have secured is not merely a victory for Accord or for Governor Adeleke; it is a victory for the good people of Osun State who have spoken clearly through their votes.
“I therefore, urge all our leaders across the state to proceed immediately to the designated collation centres and ensure that the mandate of the people is protected.”
The Accord Chairman further urged party leaders and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and peaceful while ensuring that the integrity of the electoral process is preserved.
He expressed confidence that the will of the people would prevail and that the mandate renewed for Governor Ademola Adeleke would be faithfully upheld through the final collation of results.
