Contrary to reports on Sunday, Agboola Ajayi, Deputy Governor of Ondo State, resigned from the All Progressives Party Congress, and not from the office of the Deputy Governor.
Ajayi said he remains the Ondo Deputy Governor, and would never resign from office.
He had, in a terse letter on Sunday to the Chairman.of his Apoi Ward 2, Ese Odo LGA, resigned from the APC, and immediately registered as a PDP member. But of his office as the Deputy Governor,
He submitted:
“My people that voted for me did not ask me to resign, so I remain the Deputy Governor of this state. I was duly elected as a Deputy Governor”
It remains to be seen how the arrangement would work, or how he will operate in the untidy situation.
On Sunday, June the 21st, after his resignation from the APC, he was accosted at the Government House gate at about 11pm, by the State Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, and his team, and restrained from taking some documents and an official Hilux Van out of the premises.
In a release, the Government said he was accosted because the ownership of the documents was not clear.
Chances are that if he refuses to quit from office, the House of Assembly, may start an impeachment process against him.
The speculation is that Ajayi will, likely, slug it out with his boss, on election day for the Governorship of the state.
He may fly the PDP flag.
