Canada, which recently imposed travel ban on ten African countries including Nigeria, has lifted the travel ban.
The ban was placed due to the alleged discovery of the Omicron Variant of Covid 19 in Nigeria
At a media briefing on Friday, Jean-Yves Duclos, Canada’s Minister of Health, announced the decision to lift the ban effective December 18.
Three weeks ago, the Canadian government banned 10 African countries following the detection of Omicron cases in those countries.
“While we recognise the controversial nature of such a prohibition, we believe it was a necessary measure to slow the arrival of Omicron in Canada and buy us some time,” Duclos said.
“Given the current situation, this measure has served its purpose and is no longer needed.”
Recall that the United Kingdom also lifted the Ban on Nigeria and others after some diplomatic backlash over the Omicron Variant of Covid 19.
The United Kingdom had earlier lifted the ban it placed on Nigeria and other countries. The ban was described but many people and groups as discriminatory of African Countries.
