Oluomo fallout: Imohimi Stays Put in Lagos

The handover ceremony between the would be new Commissioner of Police for Lagos, Kayode Egbetokun, and the incumbent commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, was cancelled at the last minute due to what Edgal described as “Signal from our bosses in Abuja”.

The hand over was meant to take place simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos. In Abuja, the new Inspector General of Police, IG, Mohamed Adamu, took over from the immediate past IG, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris. But just as the handover ceremony was underway, This magazine was told, Imohimi received a signal from the newly installed IG that the status Quo be maintained. Hence the rest of the ceremony was suspended.

” I am sure that you know Mr. Kayode Egbetokun; he is an old timer in the command,” Imohimi said.

“You all know that our first job is about order and direction; we were about concluding the handing and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now”, he told journalists on ground to witness the event. “So, there will be no change of guard for now. “

It will be recalled that during the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship rally in Lagos, there was commotion which resulted in three journalists being wounded. The Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Musliu Akinsanya, popular as MC Oluomo, was stabbed. He is still said to be in critical condition.

Sequel to that, the Magazine gathered, representation was made to the then IG, Idris, by the powers that be in Lagos for the redeployment of the CP out of Lagos. The CP was said to be accused of not putting up adequate security for the rally. But indications were that he declared some people wanted, which were said to be the “wrong people”

Imohimi was made Lagos CP under the tenure of the current Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, who is said to have a good rapport with him.With the level of suspicion about his loyalty to the godfather, it was not difficult to convince  the former IG that he should be removed and replaced with an ally of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Egbetokun was the CSO and aid to Tinubu during his tenure as Governor. He left that position to become the commandant of Police College Lagos.
