Following the lifting of embargo on campaign activities by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead next year’s general elections, politicians have resumed brickbats, with an allegation coming from Ogun state that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is from Ekiti State.

A former chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area, Wale Adedayo, made the remarks during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, alleging that Mr Adeola was originally Sulaimon Ogunleye from Ekiti State, but now falsely claims Ogun State ancestry for political gains.

“Should I call him Sulaimon Ogunleye? He is from Ekiti. It is Solomon Adeola. The man you call Yayi.

“That was his original name,” Mr Adedayo alleged, while challenging the APC candidate “to prove his ancestry, which has not been till tomorrow.

“He doesn’t have any root in Ogun State, and that is one of the things we talk about that as much as possible, we should not encourage fraudulent claims.

“There is nothing wrong with people living in Lagos State coming back home to contest, but people using pecuniary means to claim ancestry is fraudulent.”

He maintained that the APC candidate in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, cannot win the race.

Commenting on the series of upcoming elections in Ogun State, the journalist predicted that President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election.

He stressed, however, that the APC would loose in governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections in what he described as political ‘earthquakes.’

“There is going to be seismic changes in terms of earthquakes because things will move in the direction that a lot of people would not expect.

“The way things are going now, APC is gone in Ogun State and PDP is going to be there in 2027 for a number of reasons, and there is no doubt about that.

“The President will have his way in Ogun State, but when it comes to the governorship, senatorial and house of elections, it is a different ball game in Ogun State.”

Despite maintaining that political shockwaves against the APC would be recorded in every local government area during next year’s election, he assured that there would be no violence in the state.

“There is going to be a seismic change in all the 20 local governments, but it is not going to be a battleground where people will kill themselves,” the one-time chairman added.
