The Obidient Movement has launched scathing attacks on former Governor of Borno, state Ali Modu-Sherif, accusing him of shadow-chasing in his overzealous attempt to execute his hatchet job for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Movement regretted that rather than dwelling on the well documented inadequacies of the present All Progressive Congress APC-led Federal Government, Modu-Sherif continues to divert attention to the Nigerian Civil War, opposition parties and figures including Peter Obi.
Senator Sheriff had, in an interview on Channels Television on Monday July 6, 2026, stated that Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, will not enjoy the support of the North despite his choice of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the popular Kwankwasiyya Movement as his running mate , owing to his failure to condemn the activities of pro-Biafra group – the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra IPOB.
The former Borno Governor also accused Obi of anti-North posturing during his tenure as Anambra state Governor, alleging that he repatriated a significant number of Northerners resident in the Stat.
Senator Sheriff similarly urged the presidential candidate of the opposition Coalition platform, the African Democratic Congress ADC, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to shelve his ambition to preside over the affairs of the country until 2031 when he believes it will be the turn of the North to take a shot at the presidency.
But in a statement on Tuesday July 7, 2026, from its Media and Communication Directorate ,the Obidient Movement expressed serious concern that Sheriff gloated over the worsening insecurity and economic crisis bedeviling the country under the watch of President Tinubu , while pontificating ,and grandstanding on events of over 50 years ago.
The group noted that if Nigerians are at all to be lectured on patriotism, certainly such unsolicited lesson should not come from someone it described as the “godfather” of terrorism.
“The attention of the Obidient Movement has been drawn to the bizarre interview granted by former Borno state Governor Ali Modu-Sherif ,on Channels Television ,where he desperately tried to turn straightforward question about the catastrophic failure of the Tinubu administration into a theatrical lecture on the Nigerian Civil War .
“Asked a simple question about calls for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign over worsening insecurity and the collapse of the economy, Sheriff simply could not answer it. Instead, he reached for the oldest weapon in the APC playbook-tribal fear-mongering.
“Rather than explain why Nigerians are hungrier, poorer ,and more insecure than they were three years ago, he dragged the country back to a war that ended over fifty years ago.
“It was a cheap distraction by a man who had no answer to the question before him”, the movement stated.
While dismissing claims that Obi does not believe in Nigeria’s unity and corporate existence, the group emphasized that Obi has severally come under attacks and threats from IPOB owing to his unflinching commitment to the national cohesion and united Nigeria.
The Movement described the former Borno State Governor as the least qualified to sermonize on patriotism, unity and stability of Nigeria going by his long-standing link to Boko Haram insurgency in the North East region.
The Obidient Movement emphasized that Obi has been consistent in his commitment to promoting issues that border on national unity and inclusive development.
According to the group, the former Anambra State Governor strongly believes that every Nigerian should be supported to thrive ,no matter where he/she comes from.
It further explained that Obi, at several fora has continually spoken on his lofty plans for Northern region of the country, especially on how to utilise the region’s vast, uncultivated land to generate more national revenue than oil.
“It is deeply ironic that Ali Modu-Sherif, a man widely identified with the early rise and sponsorship of the Boko Haram insurgency, that has devastated the North, now wants to lecture anyone on patriotism, and national loyalty”, the statement noted.
This is as the Movement accused the President Tinubu’s administration and its supporters of only resorting to ethnic and religious sentiments in their desperation to gain political validation, amidst overwhelming rejection by the people.
The group noted that the pressing challenges facing the people now are worsening insecurity ,acute hunger and economic hardship ,and not engagement in mundane , anachronistic and premodial rhetorics.
“They want Nigerians to argue about 1967 because they cannot defend 2026. But Nigerians know better. The issue is hunger. The issue is insecurity. The issue is economic collapse.
“And no amount of tribal propaganda can hide the disastrous record of the Tinubu administration”,the Movement declared.
