Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he is, at once, shocked and saddened by the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

He also described the dethronement as bad and good.

Sanusi was on Monday deposed as the Emir of Kano, by Governor Abdullahi Ghanduje for alleged insurbordination and disrespect for him and his government.

The governor, thereafter, banished him to Nasarawa state. Since then, there has been outrage in several quarters over his dethronement, and the manner he was chased out, almost, from the Palace.

But in a letter to Sanusi, dated March 9, which he personally signed, Obasanjo said the action against Sanusi was both good and bad, and submitted that the former Emir paid the price for his steadfastness.

Wrote Obasanjo in the letter where  he addressed  Sanusi as his brother:

“I woke up this morning, and after my morning exercise, devotion and meeting with my staff, I heard the sad and the good news of your removal by the Executive Council of the Kano State Government.

“It is sad because it was undeserved. It is good because you have paid the price. My prayer is that God should give you the fortitude and courage to continue on the path that you have chosen for yourself in the best interest of our country and humanity.

“Please, accept, Your Royal Highness, the assurances of my highest consideration”
