Less than 24 hours after Americans issued a strong rebuke to President Donald Trump by handing a stunning victory to  the Democratic Party against his Republican Party in the country’s Midterm Elections, former President Barack Obama has celebrated the historic victory.

“Tonight, the American people sent a clear message – they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face”, Obama said.

By all accounts, the Democratic Party’s defeat of the Republic Party is historic. The Democrats not only snatched the control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives from the Republicans, they did so in style. They won comfortably and would be in charge of the Congress for the next two years that remain for Trump to be in power.

Barriers were broken.

For the first time in decades, a Democrat is going to be the Senator representing Texas, a traditionally Republican seat and State. And there are other States like that too, including South Carolina,  Kansas, North Carolina and more.

For the first time in the US Senate, a Muslim, Abdul El-Sayed, has a seat after the last minute obstacle thrown his way by the endorsement of his Republican rival by a strong member of his own party. A betrayal, shocked Democrats called it. But El-Sayed stayed focused. And celebrating his victory, he threw a jab at President Trump. “Donald, you never got around to pronouncing my name correctly. When JD (Vice President Vance) swears me in in January, just call me Senator.”

It was an election when the people were so determined to  show Trump how disenchanted they have become of some of his policies that they rejected his offer of $5,000 per adult voter if they gave him victory at the Senate and the House. They turned him down.

They told him by this stunning rebuke that the power of the people is more powerful than the power of money. They looked at cost of gas, groceries, and more.

Hailing the victory, Obama who campaigned hard for his Party’s Candidates, in a statement, said:

“Tonight, the American people  sent a clear message – they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.

“These results were only possible  because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country- including in areas once considered long shots.

“They came from different backgrounds and represented by a range of political perspectives, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service, and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first.

“We also owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election and carried out one of the most essential functions of our democracy.

“While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future.”

President Trump has congratulated the Democrats on their victory but accepts no blame even though not a few  millions  hold him responsible for the disastrous Republican performance. They blame his policies, not forgetting to also point at the Iranian war. But Mr President has pushed back.

While on the campaign train, he had urged Americans to vote as if he, Trump, was on the ballot. In defeat, however, he shifted. He said he was not on the ballot, otherwise, he would have won clearly.

Obama’s statement has been viewed, within a couple of hours by his 43.1 million followers, commented on by 7, 235, and liked by 689, 518.
