OAU Students Protest Death Of Colleague Killed By Mob Attack

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife has demanded justice for one of their colleagues, Okolie Arinze, a 500-level Civil Engineering student  killed by mob action.

The deceased, who was accused of Phone-theft and was subjected to torture by mob, later gave up the ghost .

Arinze, after being subjected to torture on allegation of stealing a mobile phone in Awo Hall of the University, passed away on Tuesday, at the Emergency Medical Centre of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife.

The protesting students reportedly stormed the Students’ Union Building and shut it down.

Student leaders in the faculty of Technology, who spoke with Journalists; said the peaceful protest would continue to express grievances and hold all parties involved in the killing accountable.

Just on Monday, a 35 year old man that drive a vehicle which killed two persons on a motorcycle was stoned to death by angry mob in Akure, Ondo state capital.

Already, the state police Command has confirmed the arrest of two persons in connection with the incident, while the state government has bowed to bring to book those responsible for the killing.
