The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has faulted one of the world’s most influential Magazines, the London Economist on its stand of President Bola Tinubu’s fate in 2027.
The Economist, in an editorial a couple of days ago predicted a President Tinubu’s re-election even when it admitted that he is not liked by Nigerians. According to it, inspire of Nigerians dislike for their President, some factors would make his re-election inevitable.
But in its reaction, the NDC which Presidential candidate is the hugely popular Peter Obi disageed. The Party said the only way victory could go Tinubu’s way in 2027 is by outright rigging. It, however, added that
Nigerians will be ready to resist any rigging or manipulation in 2027.
The Economist’s Editorial titled: *‘Nigerians Dislike Their President, But May Re-elect Him Anyway,’* stated that Tinubu appeared relaxed about the prospects of his re-election despite the challenges confronting the country.
It said: “On the face of it, Mr. Tinubu’s cool is surprising,” even with Nigeria’s worsening security situation and economic pressures.
It continued: “Nigeria is suffering a worsening security crisis, with people kidnapped and killed by bandits or insurgents on a near-daily basis.”
In an interview, however, the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, interrogated The Economist on why it agreed that Tinubu is so unpopular but still arrived at the conclusion that he would win the election.
He emphasized the magazine’s conclusion was far from facts and statistics that it identified as Tinubu’s Achilles’ heels.
Director: “The Economist article agreed that Tinubu is so unpopular. So, how did it arrive at the conclusion that he would still win despite that? The article decided to leave many things unsaid.
“Its conclusion was not based on the facts and statistics that it itself identified as Tinubu’s Achilles’ heels.
“For us at the NDC, we don’t see any pathway to victory for Tinubu, save through outright rigging and manipulation, which Nigerians are ready to resist this time around.”
