In an inexplicable moment, Angel Carrasco, a 31-year old, pushed his girlfriend, 23- year old Nathaly Ramirez, and their eight-month old daughter off the balcony of a 15th floor.
While the mother of his child died, the baby miraculously survived.
The bizarre incident happened on October 6, when the two were having an early-morning confrontation, at about 3.30am outside an apartment building on Olinville Ave. near Allerton Avenue in the Bronx.
Since the tragic incident, Carrasco has been on the run and Police are now searching for him.
Authorities warn that he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
Ramirez was declared dead when she was rushed to the hospital after the fall.
Her baby daughter was also taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition. She has, however, since improved to a stable condition and is expected to survive.
According to police, Ramirez may have saved her daughter’s life by holding her tightly during the fall, helping to cushion the baby’s impact.
The incident comes amid reports of previous domestic disputes between the couple.
Police had reportedly been called to their apartment twice in January, during one of those incidents, on January 5. Ramirez allegedly told officers that Carrasco had hit her.
According to Surveillance footage, it reportedly captured Carrasco leaving the area around 3:45 a.m., wearing a tan hoodie and carrying a backpack.
Nancy Morales, a 69-year-old neighbor, said she heard Ramirez pleading with Carrasco to leave her alone and shouting, “Stop! You’re scaring the baby!”.
Another neighbor described the couple’s relationship as troubled, saying they frequently argued.
The neighbor claimed Ramirez would sometimes lock Carrasco out of the apartment, after which he would allegedly kick the door open.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue their search for Carrasco.
