An emotionally drained mother has revealed the last thing her NYSC-bound daughter posted on the family WhatsApp platform before abductors marched her and her 19 other colleagues into the bush.
Her daughter was among the 20 NYSC members who were on their way to their Orientation Camp when the two buses they boarded from Ibadan were intercepted by the armed men who abducted them along with other passengers on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
She said as soon as they were intercepted, her daughter quickly posted one word “Kidnappers” to the family’s WhatsApp platform. Thereafter, however, her phone was switched off, and she became unreachable.
According to reports, they were abducted around the Umunoha area of the highway Onitsha-Owerri highway. Umunoha is in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The weeping and devastated mother shared a video online where she pleaded with the government to intervene.
According to her, her daughter Kehinde left Ibadan around 9am on Wednesday alongside other corps members for their orientation camps in the South-East and South-South.
She revealed that the group spent the night “somewhere in Imo State” before they continued with their trip Thursday morning.
Trouble started just after 6.00am, she said when Kehinde sent the message to the family WhatsApp platform. She, tried to place a call to her daughter but her phone was no longer active.
She cried: “Since past 6am, I have not been able to hear from my child, and we couldn’t get her exact location anymore. Please, federal government, help us. I only have the two of them. Her twin sister, Taiwo, arrived safely to the Orientation Camp in Enugu.
She revealed that it was a convoy of three vehicles but that one of the buses escaped.
The Imo State Police Command in an update said that 10 of the Corpers have been rescued while efforts to rescue the others remain ongoing.
