Ahead the 2027 election Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called for unity in the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in their quest to provide ‘peoples centred” for Nigerians.
The senator made the remark on Wednesday after she was presented with the Certificate of Return to represent the party in the next year’s general election by the PDP factional National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The PDP is currently factionalised into two groups. Apart from the Mohammed’s faction, another faction led by Senator Tanimu Turaki is also laying claim to its leadership.
With her emergence as the PDP candidate for the senatorial zone, Akpoti-Uduaghan is expected to face candidates from other political parties, including a former governor of the state, Yahaya Bello who has emerged as the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Candidate.
Reacting, after she was handed the Certificate of Return, the lawmaker said the party decision is a call to higher responsibility and honour for her, saying she has accepted the call on her as a renewed commitment to serve her people and the country.
She called on the members of the party to stand together to earn the trust of Nigerians, saying the party remains a platform of ‘hope” for millions in the country, calling on contestants to ensure that the next election is issue based, adding that Nigerians are seeking leaders who understand their problems and work for them, by serving with integrity, and a genuine commitment to “improving the lives of our people”.
“This Certificate of Return is not just a document; it is a symbol of the trust and confidence that our party members and the people have placed in me. I accept it with humility, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to serve.
“The PDP remains a platform of hope for millions of Nigerians. We must continue to stand together, engage our communities, and work tirelessly to earn the trust and confidence of the people,” she said.
Adding, “Our responsibility as leaders and candidates is to inspire confidence through service, integrity, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of our people.”
