Fiery Kano politician and rights activist Naja’atu Mohammed has accused a governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, ADC in Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, of being an ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. For that reason, the party will ensure the aspirant did not get the party’s ticket to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state, she said.
Mohammed, the party’s Deputy National Chairman, North West made the assertion during a press conference in Kano saying the party cannot afford to give its governorship ticket to a candidate known to be loyal to the president, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2027 election.
President Tinubu has expressed his intention to contest next year’s election, he’s conetsting against ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar who’s also regarded as a frontrunner in the race.
Tinubu defeated Abubakar, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 presidential race.
Kano is expected to play a decisive role in who becomes Nigeria’s president in next year’s election, President Tinubu and other presidential candidates are doing on they can to get the state under their control.
The State Governor Abba Yusuf recently decamped to the ruling APC, a move analysts insist has boosted the president’s chances in 2027.
According to Mohammed, the aspirant has been known for his support for Tinubu, through his public comment, as such he should not be allowed to fly ADC ticket as such could undermine the party’s chance to win the presidential election in the state.
She said the aspirant cannot be trusted as he has expressed his loyalty to the president, saying northerners don’t want to have anything to do with Tinubu’s loyalists, accusing the Tinubu’s administration of failure to tackle some problems rocking the region, including insecurity and poverty.
Khalil has denied the allegation.
But Mohammed said, “No fairminded Northerner would want to politically associate with any aspirant perceived to be loyal to Tinubu, given the hardship, pain and anguish the region has suffered under this administration.”
