Ogbuji, a native of Ohaji but who resided in the Irete Community where he built his house and did business from, had reportedly arrived home from his business in Owerri on the fateful day.

Without giving a thought to the possible danger he was exposing himself to, he went in hot pursuit of the criminals, and, indeed, saw them along the Owerri-Onitsha road – Umungada Junction.

The criminals sensed that he was in their hot-pursuit, and was close to them. Not knowing if he had weapons with him, and wondering what gave him the courage to go after them, they paused and shot him on the chest.

While that was going on, his elder brother, Sunny,  who was already in their custody, jumped and managed to escape. But the Pharmacist died on the spot.

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the story and assured that: “We are on top of the situation.”
