Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke said the Imole SSCE Scholarship Award programme is aimed at raising a generation that will not walk in darkness.

The governor pointed out that his administration honours excellence from the grassroots to the peak, and commended the Ministry of Education, teachers, and school administrators for shaping minds and building character.

The governor was speaking at the presentation of the maiden edition of Imole SSCE Scholarship Award Ceremony organised by Electronic Collections Group (ECG) in collaboration with the Osun State Ministry of Education, at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Hall, Osun State University, Osogbo on Wednesday.

On the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Adeleke, urged the people to shun vote buying.

Addressing the audience including global government chairmen elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, school administrators, teachers, students and relatives of the awardees, Adeleke said, “My people of Osun state, Osun is at an unusual time ahead of the August 15 election. Those who hijacked and diverted over N300 billion Osun local government funds are desperate.

“I charge Osun people to reject Greek gifts, to shun proceeds of crime and use their votes to sustain continuity.

“Osun voters and residents have a sacred duty to reject illegality, political corruption and unconstitutional pressure to subvert democracy. Our votes must further elongate delivery of democratic dividends as witnessed by our people from 2022 to date.”

Osun State Government, in partnership with a consulting firm,  rewarded students from the State that performed outstandingly in the 2025 West African Examination Council examination with scholarship awards.

The government and the group also presented cash prizes and other gifts to teachers who taught the students on the nine subjects they sat for in WAEC and also gifted the schools that produced them with educational materials.

No fewer than 31 students from across all the local government areas in the state were awarded with cash gifts in what the organizers described as “Celebrating Academic Excellence and Rewarding outstanding students in the SSCE (WAEC).”

Each of the best students, drawn from each of the 30 local government area of the state, was rewarded with the sum of N100,000 while the overall best student in the state was presented with a sum of N1million.

Also, teachers who engaged the students in all the nine WAEC subjects were given the sum of N50,000 while the schools that produced the bright students got packages including educational materials.

Earlier in his remarks, the Coordinator of ECG, Akinmade Akintoye, said the reward programme would be annual, noting that it is to encourage students, teachers and schools to train future leaders better.

“Each of the best students in each of the 30 local government areas in the state got N100,000 in this maiden edition of the Imole Scholarship Award.

“The Overall Best in the state got a scholarship Award of N1 million. This is to encourage future leaders to study well in a world where we have a lot of distractions.

“Every teacher of the nine subjects in which they partook got a gift of N50,000 each. The school got an award as well as educational support.

“The list of best students was directly sent by WAEC headquarters. It is the initiative of Mr Governor because one of his agenda is education.

“We all know that before His Excellency came to power, Osun was not doing well in education. But, in the first year of his Excellency, Osun was the 7th best in Nigeria. The education policy of the governor is working despite the challenges.

“We implore schools not to relent. This is just their stepping stone, the sky is going to be their limit.”

The overall best student in the state, Ajani Oluwagbotemi, a public school student from Atakunmosa East LGA, thanked the State Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing his desire to study Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti.

“The motivation for success kept me going. I studied mostly indoors. I feel very excited at the scholarship award. God made my struggles to count and my parents were there for me,” he said.
