Though now separated by political differences, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and former Chairman of the Economic, Financial and Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, now National Security Adviser, once shared an experience in common.
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore claimed that both were forced into exile in the United States during the administration of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua
Speaking during an interview on Sahara TV, Sowore alleged that their departure was linked to political tensions involving Ribadu, former Delta State Governor, James Ibori and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

“El-Rufai was in exile in the US with Nuhu Ribadu. They were running away from Yar’Adua because Nuhu Ribadu had offended Ibori and Saraki, so they drove them out of town.”
El- Rufai, now member Afican Democratic Congress, ADC and Ribadu, currently National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu and member All Progressives Congress APC are presently at loggerhead.
The former Kaduna governor is facing trial for wiretapping the line of Ribadu aside his arraignment by EFCC for corruption related case while in office.
Sowore’s account offers his perspective on the political tensions surrounding Ribadu during the Yar’Adua administration.
