Otunba Hakeem Alobo-Bakare, prominent Lagos business mogul, socialite and former governorship aspirant, has died at the age of 68.
His death brings an end to a career that spanned business, politics and the city’s influential social circles.
News of his death emerged on Thursday, October 29, 2026, although the circumstances surrounding his passing and details of his final moments remained undisclosed.
The deceased was born on June 1, 1958, and celebrated his 68th birthday barely four months ago in the company of few family members and close friends.
The late businessman was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of DHB Group/Fountain Tops Investment Limited, a business conglomerate with interests spanning infrastructure, commodity importation, road construction, drainage, rural electrification and property development through its subsidiaries, DHB Construction and DHB Properties.
He also served as Chairman of Union Development Security Services.
At the time of his death, Alobo-Bakare was reportedly preparing to launch HABRide, an e-hailing service venture expected to commence operations in the Lagos market in November 2026.
The proposed launch was set to mark another addition to his portfolio of business interests.
Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits, Alobo-Bakare maintained a prominent presence in Lagos’ social circles, particularly through his longstanding association with the prestigious Island Club, where he was an active member for more than 32 years.
During his years at the club, he served as Social Secretary and also contested for the chairmanship, reflecting his longstanding involvement in its administration and activities.
His public engagements also extended into politics.
He however sought the Giovernorship of Lagos State in 2015 and later aspired to represent the state in the Senate in 2023, both under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
His death has triggered an outpouring of grief among family members, friends, business associates and social acquaintances, many of whom are mourning the loss of a charismatic personality whose influence and engagements cut across business, politics and high society.
With his passing, Lagos has lost a familiar figure in its business and social landscape, while his death comes at a time when he was reportedly preparing to expand his entrepreneurial interests with the planned launch of HABRide.
Further details surrounding his funeral arrangements and other aspects of his passing are expected to emerge from the family.
