Months after he was recalled from a indefinite suspension as Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Governor Francis Nwifuru has finally sacked Stanley Lebechi Mbam from his cabinet.
Recall that Governor Nwifuru had on February 28, 2026, suspended Mbam indefinitely alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara.
He was sacked following concerns over, allegedly, the pace of infrastructure projects and what the administration described as lapses in the Ministry of Works.
A statement by the Governor directed Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.
He was also directed to transfer his responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works.
The Governor’s statement did not disclose the specific reason for the commissioner’s removal.
The statement further added that the Governor assured residents that his administration remained focused on delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure.
Mbam was sacked exactly seven months after his indefinite suspension was lifted.
Recall that following his indefinite suspension, Mbam publicly apologised to the Governor and appealed for another opportunity to serve, taking responsibility for what he described as unmet expectations.
He was subsequently recalled by the Governor on May 3, 2026, alongside other suspended officials.
The recall was announced during a Father’s Day service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.
Mbam returned to his position as Commissioner for Works following the May recall before his latest removal from office on September 19.
