Governor Adeleke Goes On Vacation, Medical Check-Up

After hectic campaigns and election, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has travelled to the United Kingdom, (UK), for  vacation and medical check-up.

Coming less than a month after winning re-election in the state, Adeleke departed Nigeria through the Lagos airport on Sunday for the trip, which will also include visits to other destinations to be announced later.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor is expected to use the break to rest and undergo medical examinations ahead of the commencement of his second term following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

Speaking before his departure, Adeleke explained thaf the trip would enable him to recharge and prepare for the responsibilities ahead.

“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” he said.

Despite his absence from the country, the governor on Sunday intervened in an emerging kingship dispute in Koka Ilase, Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

Adeleke directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate reports that another traditional ruler had been appointed for the community, creating a situation in which two individuals are laying claim to the same traditional stool.

The governor ordered the ministry to examine the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment and submit a report clarifying the status of the chieftaincy.

“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” Adeleke said.

He urged all parties and other stakeholders in the dispute to remain calm while the investigation is ongoing.

“Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” the governor added.

Adeleke’s intervention came as he stressed that the state government would rely on existing chieftaincy laws and regulations, as well as the customs and traditions of the people, in resolving the dispute.
