Fubara’s 32 House of Assembly Aspirants Disqualified By APC Screening Committee

Candidates sponsored.by the Rivers state Governor Siminalayi Fubara ,were among the about 56 aspirants  disqualified from contesting the 2027 elections by the All Progressive Congress, APC,  Rivers State House of Assembly Screening Committee.

 

The Source reports that the embattled Rivers State Governor who is facing political ostracization from his estranged godfather, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister Nyesom Wike had last week sponsored some aspirants for the House of Assembly contest, against the expressed wishes of Wike’s Rainbow Coalition platform.

 

However, the Screening Committee, in its report  disqualified about 56 of the 98 aspirants who appeared before it , with Fubara’s aspirants ,and those of Tonye Cole, a Governorship aspirants among those disqualified from the contesting the elections .

In a report dated May 10, 2026, the Screening Committee headed by Muraine Ajibola also cleared about 33 aspirants, all of whom were, allegedly, sponsored by the FCT Minister ,who is still a member of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP.

 

Some notable aspirants disqualified by the Screening Committee which sat between Saturday May 9 and Sunday May 10 ,2026 include Victor Oko-Jumbo, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Fubara, and Chijioke Ihunwo, a former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Council of the State ,and others.

 

The Committee’s report was endorsed by the trio of Ajibola as Secretary, Danjuma Samuel and Ishake Yamawe as members.

The Source reports that Governor Fubara had, on Sunday, angrily stormed out of the Abuja venue of the APC Screening Committee, a move perceived to have signposted a fundamental disagreement with the Committee.

 

Fubara who arrived the screening venue at about 3.00 pm., left after about  20 minutes in anger.

 

Although, he did not disclose the cause of his sudden exit, it is however becoming clear that he may have gotten an idea of the fate of his sponsored aspirants.

 

With what has just happened to his favoured House of Assembly aspirants , it is also suspected that Governor Fubara’s own return bid may equally be frustrated by the Committee.

His erstwhile political mentor, Wike, has insisted that part of the presidential truce brokered between the warring Rivers political actors was that Governor Fubara will not seek a second term in office.
