There is palpable tension on the ever busy Ijebu-Ode axis of Ogun State following a fatal crash involving a GUO Transport Bus travelling from Ebonyi State towards Lagos.
The fatal crash led to, reportedly, the death of yet to be confirmed number of passengers.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the Ogun State Police Command have both confirmed the sad incident.
The reported accident has triggered fresh concern over the safety of passengers travelling along the Lagos-Ore corridor, one of the country’s major inter-state transportation routes.
The Ijebu-Ode area had previously witnessed serious security and road incidents involving passenger vehicles, underscoring the vulnerability of travellers on the corridor.
The development is particularly distressing because GUO Transport operates inter-state services from Ebonyi and other parts of the South-East to major destinations across Nigeria.
The company’s official terminal listing confirms its operations in Abakaliki and other locations in the region.
Several families whose members boarded the ill- fated bus await their status.
The FRSC disclosed that they are contacting the GUO Company in Ebonyi to get a first hand information on those who boarded the Bus and have taken some of the injured persons to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
It has however not revealed the number of people who lost their lives.
There is a growing anxiety over the identities and conditions of those involved.
Relatives and friends are expected to seek confirmation from the transport company, emergency responders and hospitals receiving victims.
