Fayose Appreciates President Tinubu For His Appointment As REA Chairman

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to his appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency, (REA), thanking President Bola Tinubu for the offer.

Reactions had trailed the appointment, announced by President Tinubu last week, with his brother, Isaac advising him to reject the offer, which he believes belittle his status as a two term former governor.

In a post, the former governor stated that “I sincerely thank President Bola Tinubu for finding me worthy of this appointment. It is a privilege to serve, particularly in an agency whose mandate directly impacts people at the grassroots.

“We will do our very best, and, by the grace of God, we will not let the President down.

“The board has not been inaugurated yet, so I cannot speak extensively on what lies ahead.

“In due course, when we begin work officially, we will be in a better position to discuss our plans and how we intend to improve rural electrification across the country.”

The appointment, which take immediate effect, was announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments into 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, with former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, emerging as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission,” the statement read.

The Presidency said Fayose would head the REA board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors, while “the incumbent DG of the agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors previously appointed make up the remaining board members.”
