One of Nigeria’s domestic airlines, Arik Air, has cancelled all of its flights against Wednesday.
The Airline in a release signed by its Duty Manager/OCC, Daniel Mlaha, said the cancellation is due to the 24 hour curfew imposed on Lagos State by the Lagos State Governor.
The Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had, mid-day, Tuesday, imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state, beginning from 4.00pm, due to the violence which suddenly accompanied the #EndSARS protests.
On Tuesday, hoodlums taking advantage of the protests, burnt down two Police Divisions in Lagos, and a Local Government Areas in Lagos. The state Government had, earlier, shut-down all schools in the state.
But on Tuesday, it worsened, prompting a shut-down of the State.
Cancelling all flights against Wednesday, Arik said: “Please, be advised that due 24 hours curfew in LOS, all flight operations for tomorrow Wednesday, 21st Oct. 2020, have been cancelled.
“NOTE: The information provided above is for guideline only and subject to change at short notice given operational/commercial circumstances.”
It is not known yet if other airlines have cancelled their flights, but this cancellation is another lethal blow on airlines which are yet to recover from the COVID-19 lockdown.
