Social Democratic Party, (SDP) in Ekiti state is embroiled in fresh crisis following an attempt to impose a senatorial candidate by some officials of the party.
The favoured candidate, Obafemi Adewale, a Senior Advocate, is one of the counsels handling the petition of the party’s governorship candidate at the tribunal.
In a petition to the leadership of the party, one of the senatorial aspirants, Sesan Arowolo claimed that the candidate is unknown to members of the party in Ekiti central senatorial district.
Arowolo stated that “I will start by saying, to whom much is given much is expected, betrayal was what I felt, my heart broken not just by a leader I was in love with, but also as I once believed, a true leader.
“I have worked tremendously for this great party without no fear of regret, but it is a surprise to the entire people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District and Ekiti State in general as this injustice uproar from the unthinkable.
“It is of note that in the process of joining this great party we all came as an aggrieved members, who had been victimized by the oppressors in APC and PDP.
“Now it sounds we are from “fry pan to fire” as this is the first time in the history of Ekiti, a none party member as at the time of our primary election will now be the party’s candidate.
“We are categorically saying, the imposition of Barr. Obafemi Adewale, SAN is a day light robbery on the people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District that will jeopardize all our efforts to build a formidable party of tranquility.
“We were told all will be transparent and democratic but the reverse is the case as the party cabal hijacked the structure in favour of their close pals in disguise of the court case.
“Without an iota of fear, distinguished leaders you gave us a criteria for the selection of preferred candidate, which are; winning of unit, ward, local government, posters, jingles and our financial contributions to the party’s project, therefore, how did a man who never showed interest in the Senate seat talkless of participating in the screening, primary election and now suddenly become a preferred candidate of the party?
“We write this to you, to outrightly condemn this ugly incident, notify you that Ekiti Central choice, Project 2023 campaign organization will never accept the charade called nomination.”
The petitioner specifically accused the governorship candidate of the party, Chief Segun Oni of being behind the imposition of his lawyer on the people.
“Your Excellency, you left APC because of injustice and unfairness, you left PDP because of imposition and injustice, we can not but say the truth is that, you who had been an advocate for justice and equality and, in tinkle of an eye changed because of personal gain.
“This has shown to the world, that your agitation is personal than Ekiti wish, as a result, we say it to you that, the past is bad and the present with you is unpleasant, but we will erase this horrible present to have a better future where people of good characters rule without pretence.”
