Smelling and inhaling victory for his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has showered praises on Security Agencies.
Wike is, also, the Chairman of the PDP Edo Governorship Campaign, a role he played so perfectly, by keeping both the APC controlled Federal Government, and Security Agencies on their toes.
He, also, energised the campaign, and asked Edo people to rise up in anger, and kill political godfatherism forever in Edo.
At a point, he took direct swipes at both APC’s Governors Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State. Both Governors are the Chair and Deputy Chair, respectively, of the APC Edo Governorship Campaign.
Wike had a shaky stay in Edo, 24 hours to the election. About 300 Policemen, according to reports, had surrounded the Hotel where he is staying in Benin, in the evening of September 18. This followed Wike’s declaration, two days earlier, that he would stay put in Benin until the declaration of the result.
He urged Edo people to rise and defend their votes, harping on regional interest (of the South-south zone) , and the need to be together in the interest of the people.
But the Police had surrounded the Hotel, effectively, barring Wike and other PDP Governors, allegedly, from leaving their hotels on Election day.
This situation prompted the Rivers State Government to express fears over Wike’s safety. The Rivers PDP, also, issued a statement that it would hold the IGP responsible if anything happened to Wike.
However, apparently, satisfied with the, mostly, impartial disposition of Security Agencies and INEC, Wike has nothing but commendation for the conduct of the election.
He said it would go down in history as the best conducted election in Nigeria. “This will go down as the best election in Nigeria,” he declared.
President Buhari had promised a free and fair election, urging the INEC and Security Agencies to play to the rules. The International Community, also, had eyes on the election, earning of consequences for election rule violators, prompting the Nigeria to say that both the US and the UK, which had either promised Visa restrictions, or some so already for such violators.
