With the official declaration of Edo Governorship election results, Governor Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, has crushed his estranged political godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, very badly.
Obaseki, with a total vote of 307, 955 votes, to APC candidate’s Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s 223, 619 won decisively, the Governorship election. He won in ourightly in 14 LGA’s, and did quite well in the remaining four. Obaseki is led with an overwhelming majority – over 83,000 votes.
Obaseki was the preferred candidate of Oshiomhole to succeed him in 2016. But two years later, they fell out irretrievably.
Oshiomhole led the battle to force Obaseki out of the APC, when the party, unbelievably, denied him a second term ticket.
Oshiomhole preferred a candidate he had ran down and rejected in 2016, Ize-Iyamu, to Obaseki.
The result was a change in positions, with Obaseki flying the PDP ticket and, Ize-Iyamu, who had flown the PDP party in 2016, now flying the APC ticket.
