Doubt Over Identity Of Suspect Arrested Over Illicit Drugs, Firearm

The Ondo State Police Command has reportedly arrested a newly appointed aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Hon. Ware Ojo, popularly known as “Aruwe, Authority 001,” alongside his wife over alleged possession of illicit drugs and a locally fabricated firearm.

 

Ondo state government has however disclaimed the suspect, saying he is not an aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

 

The couple were reportedly arrested at their residence in Oka-Akoko, where police operatives allegedly recovered substances suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, opium and other illicit drugs valued at more than ₦30 million.

 

A locally fabricated firearm was also reportedly recovered during the operation, alongside a Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration number AUTHORITY 01.

The incident reportedly took a dramatic turn following Ojo’s arrest, as he was alleged to have mobilised individuals that attacked the police station in protest against his detention.

 

Two police personnel, identified as Sergeant Abiodun and Inspector Osha, were reportedly injured during the alleged attack and taken to Faith Hospital in Oka-Akoko for medical treatment.

 

Although Ojo was reportedly released,  based on order from above, the police were said to have retained the suspected illicit drugs, firearm and other exhibits allegedly recovered during the operation.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack on the police station, the reported release of the governor’s aide and the status of the exhibits are expected to form part of further investigations.

Chief Press Secretaty to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, in a statement denied tgat the suspect is an aide to governor Aiyedatiwa.

 

The statement reads “The attention of the Ondo State Government has been drawn to a trending report and image claiming that an “Ondo Governor’s Aide” has been arrested over alleged possession of illicit drugs and firearms.

 

“For the record, the young man in the report is not an aide to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. He holds no political appointment in this administration.

 

“We urge the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that due process is followed in accordance with the law.”
